He puts this defect under all the others.“Lust is the capital sin, the
original sin, and the root of all the defects… it is the worst obstacle to the
dissolution of the ego, and none of us present can say he has never had it.” More
of this work is chastity than vice, because there is more of it in him: he writes far more about the cure than about the disease.
Chastity in his hands is not abstinence, and he is as hard on the people who hate sex as on
the ones who abuse it. Both are in the abyss and he gives each half of it a name —
Lilith, who hates it, and Nahemah, who abuses it. The mystical old woman who looked at sex with
repugnance and thought herself chaste is in this work beside the fornicator, and he says her
Satan is the stronger of the two.
The most useful thing in it is the mechanism, and it comes from the lectures. 79 of these
passages are from The Fifth Gospel — taken down from the tape — and what
they add is not that lust is bad but how a look becomes an “I”: it runs in
the three brains at once, showing itself as love in the heart, as images in the head, and as
what it actually is only in the sexual centre. That is also the test he gives for telling one
from the other.
And he tells it against himself. A long run of passages is his own account of the years when he
failed every trial of chastity — absolute in the physical world, defeated the moment he
left the body — and of everything he tried that did not work: abstinence until he grew
“skinny and horrible”, flagellation, Krishnamurti’s comprehension, his own
psychological judo. “A broom wearing a skirt was enough to make me go after it.”
Nothing worked until the aggregate itself was destroyed.
And it prints what chastity IS, not only what it is not. His word for it is
transmute, and he means it exactly: the same force, turned. “The refrained
desire will transmute the semen into light and fire… the same energy that produces sexual
pleasure produces ecstasy when it is transmuted.” A long run of passages is that, and
another is what he gives to a reader who has no spouse — the rune, the breath, the letter
S, and music, sculpture and long walks. That half was missing from this work’s first
edition and was put in by the editor’s ruling the same day.
What is not here is the procedure. The Arcanum A.Z.F. itself — the posture, the
hours, the mantras of the act, the prohibition of the spasm, the building of the solar bodies
— belongs to Alchemy, which is already built. What this work keeps of it is the
rule about misuse: white, black and grey tantrism, and the key he gives for unmasking
a black magician.
How this edition is arranged. By where lust works: in each of the five centres of his psychology — intellectual, emotional, motor, instinctive and sexual — and in the will and in the word, with what lust is before them and what is born in its place after — the balm for all of it, set apart at the end so it is not missed. The grouping is ours, made on 18 September 2026 at the editor’s request; each section opens with one line of his, and every passage keeps the number it has always had, so the numbers no longer run in order down the page.

About this booklet. Corrected October 2026. Earlier versions of this booklet gave some of the Master's early passages on awakening the Kundalini without noting his later teaching that it awakens only through the couple. Notes now sit beneath those passages, and our own headings have been put right. With thanks to the reader who pointed it out.
How this was made. Fifty-two books were fetched and extracted, and indexed as
73,105 paragraphs and 2,157,671 words. They were swept on two halves — the vice
(lust, lascivious, lewd, concupiscence, fornication, adultery and their forms) and its
opposite (chastity, chaste, continence, incontinence, brahmacharya) — and that
returned 1881 candidate paragraphs in 51 books, by far the largest sweep of this project.
Every one was read and judged, and 410 are printed here; a further 724 were judged worth
keeping and did not reach a section.
This work was signed off on forty-eight books and is built on fifty-two. Its first
classification, made on 28 August 2026 — 1,290 candidates, 684 kept — was held in a
workspace that no longer exists, and both volumes of The Fifth Gospel had not yet been
added to the corpus. The sweep was therefore run again from nothing. The Fifth Gospel
is now the largest single source in it: 79 of these passages, from 30 named lectures.
Transmutation was left out, and then put back. The first build of this page kept it out
on the ground that the sexual method is Alchemy’s, which is true of the method
and false of this word: transmute is not a step of the procedure, it is his name for
what chastity does. The editor overruled the exclusion the same day — “it’s
ok that things overlap if they are necessary to get the teachings across” —
and she was right. The family stands in 591 paragraphs of which only 19 already carried a word
of this work; the other 572 were read and judged one by one in a second pass, under a
brief that says plainly that overlap with Alchemy is allowed where the teaching needs
it and that only the bare apparatus is refused — the metals, the elixirs, the
philosophical Mercury, the laboratory. That pass added 290 printed passages and
31 of the practices, among them every one this work has for a reader with no spouse.
The bare method is still out, and the distinction is worth stating.maithuna, sahaja, semen, seminal, ejaculation, orgasm, copulation, coitus, pranayama,
kundalini, chakra stand in thousands of paragraphs carrying no word of this work at all;
admitting them would drag the laboratorium, the three principles, the posture and the solar
bodies into a work about a vice.
Four more families were admitted, sampled and thrown out before anything was judged.Passion stands in 444 paragraphs and 387 of them carry no word of this work —
the Passion of Christ, passionate jealousy, and all our desires and passions, which
belongs to Desire and Will. Whore, harlot and prostitution
are in 156 and are almost entirely Babylon the Great Whore, his figure for this humanity.
Erotic is in 104, and his erotic is usually the positive one — “the
erotic instinct is that extraordinary and marvellous agent which can transform us
radically”. And continent is the old false friend of this work: he writes
constantly about Atlantis and Lemuria.
The judging was done in twenty-three slices, each by its own reader, each writing its own file
and verifying its own range, and the merge then asserted complete, duplicate-free coverage of
all 1881 before anything was built. That safeguard exists because of this work: during its
first build a session claimed nine slices were classified when five were, and wrote two files
reconstructed from memory. Nothing was built from them, but nothing in the method would have
caught it. No judgement is made in a chat reply.
Nineteen paragraphs were set aside for the editor and not judged — his writing on
homosexuality and lesbianism — so that the decision on them could be made by her on the
passages themselves rather than on anyone’s summary. Three are printed: the two accounts
of a teacher who preached chastity and privately abused the people who trusted him, and one
statement of the Lilith and Nahemah doctrine. The other sixteen are not: four are the same
Lilith passage said again in another book, and twelve are lists in which the word appears among
ten others and nothing whatever is taught about it — the rule every work in this series
uses. All nineteen are named in the build record.
Not one silent correction was needed — the third work of the series running.
These 410 passages stand exactly as the books have them. The only thing done to any of them
is the line-break rule: a word broken across the end of a line reaches this page 134 times,
more than in any other work here, because The Fifth Gospel is set in two narrow columns
and hyphenates constantly. One rule closes them and it never invents a letter.
Forty-two of his sentences had been cut in half by the paragraph index and were closed
again against the books themselves: a passage that ended without terminal punctuation took the
next paragraph, and one that opened on a lower-case letter took the one before, until the
sentence closed where he closed it. Three more the rule could not reach are set by hand and
given their reason in the build record — among them a paragraph that ends in the
scanner’s comma rather than his full stop, which sent the rule running on into a chapter
heading.
Three hundred and eighty-five paragraphs were never offered to the sweep. 247 are the
places where his transcribers marked that the tape had lost words or could not make them out;
the other 138 are not his at all — the editors’ front matter and the volumes’
own contents and index.
Checked three ways. Every passage was proved to stand word for word in the raw extraction
of its own PDF; the text printed here was proved equal to those paragraphs; and the text was
pulled back out of the finished booklets and proved to contain all 410 of them. No failures.
