What the card shows

In the waters of life the Staff of Power, the Staff of Command and the Flail (whip), which represents Fragility. To either side of these symbols, the two Serpents, the positive, and the negative. From the upper part descends the Ray of Cosmic Justice, destroying the tower which the kabalists call the Tower of Babel.

Its esoteric meaning

Arcanum number 16 is that of the fulminated tower, the Tower of Babel. Many are the Initiates who allow themselves to fall. There are many fulminated towers. Every Initiate who spills the Vessel of Hermes inevitably falls. The legend of the fallen Angels has been repeated and will be repeated eternally. Many fallen Gods now live in the world. They are now disguised in the bodies of men. It is necessary to awaken consciousness so as not to fall into the abyss of perdition.
