Every word here is his. Nothing has been paraphrased, joined or improved. Each passage was cut out of the book it belongs to by reference, and each carries that book and the paragraph it came from (and, where he was speaking rather than writing, the name of the lecture with the place and the year the volume records for it), so anything on this page can be found again in the source.

The first part is the chain itself, from identification to fascination to sleep: “Thousands and millions are the circumstances that produce Identification, Fascination and Sleep.” “People forget themselves completely; they forget their own profound inner Being because they identify with the circumstances.”

The second part is the sleep of the many. “It is tacit that humanity has its consciousness bottled in the ego.” “…all human beings, without exception of race, creed, caste or color, are hypnotized.”

The third part is the sleeper who believes himself awake. “We are asleep people, unconscious people, and this is what is serious.” “Many can dream that they are awake, but still they are not.”

The fourth part is what the sleep costs, in life, in death and in the esoteric work: “If people were awakened, they would remember their past lives.” “However, the believers are not able to agree among themselves because they have their consciousness asleep; they know nothing.”

The last part is the work of waking. “The first necessity, if one is to awaken consciousness, is to know that one is asleep.” “The one who wants to awaken consciousness should practice Inner Self-Remembering from moment to moment.”

Part One — Identification, fascination, and sleep

3 passages

IPeople are fascinated by everything in life

Here the deep sleep of humanity is traced to a single cause, fascination. The drunkard, the vain woman, the miser, the worker and the soccer player are each captured by what absorbs them, forget themselves, and walk through life asleep.

FASCINATION The profound sleep in which humanity lives are caused by fascination.

The Perfect Matrimony, 1950 (ed. 1966) also in Identification

People are fascinated by everything in life. People forget themselves because they are fascinated. The drunkard in the bar is fascinated by alcohol, the place, the pleasures, his friends and the women. The vain woman in front of a mirror is fascinated by her enchantment with herself. The rich avaricious person is fascinated by money and possessions. The honest worker in the factory is fascinated by hard work. The father of the family is fascinated by his children. All human beings are fascinated and sleep profoundly. When we drive a car we are astonished to see people dashing across the roads and streets without paying attention to the danger from the cars. Others actually throw themselves under wheels of cars. Poor people... walking asleep... like sleepwalkers. They walk sleeping, endangering their own lives. Any clairvoyant can see their dreams. People dream about everything that keeps them fascinated.

The Perfect Matrimony, 1950 (ed. 1966) also in Greed, Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself

Human beings live absolutely asleep. If, for example, a team of soccer players were to awaken consciousness during a match, you can be absolutely certain that the game would end, because the players would be ashamed and run from the soccer field immediately. The fundamental cause of the deep sleep in which humanity lives, is that which is called fascination. Soccer players are deeply fascinated with the game, and it follows that they are asleep while they play. Apparently they are playing awake, but the reality is that they are dreaming.

IIAll types of identification produce fascination and sleep

The three factors are set out in sequence: identification with people, things or ideas gives way to fascination, and fascination to the sleep of the consciousness. Forgetting oneself is named as the error at the root, and a woman weeping at a film is shown creating a new I that steals part of her consciousness.

Conscious attention does not include that which is called identification. when we become identified with people, things, and ideas, fascination takes over and the latter produces the sleep of the consciousness.

Fundamental Education, 1970 also in Identification

All the mistakes that the human being makes in life are due to forgetting oneself, becoming identified, fascinated and falling into sleep.

Fundamental Education, 1970 also in Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself

Whoever wants to awaken consciousness here and now should begin to comprehend the three subconscious factors called identification, fascination, and sleep.

The Buddha's Necklace, 1967 also in Awakening, Identification

All types of identification produce fascination and sleep. While walking down a street, you suddenly meet with a crowd protesting something in front of the president’s palace. If not in a state of alertness, you will identify with the demonstrators, join the crowd, and become fascinated. Later you fall asleep you shout, throw stones, and do things that, in other circumstances, you wouldn’t do, not even for a million dollars. Forgetting oneself is an error with incalculable consequences. To identify with anything is the height of stupidity because fascination and sleep are the result. It is impossible for someone to awaken consciousness if he forgets himself, if he identifies with any thing. It is impossible for the aspirant to awaken consciousness if he allows himself to become fascinated, to fall asleep.

The Buddha's Necklace, 1967 also in Anger, Awakening, Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself

The subconscious is the sepulcher of the past upon which burns the fatuous flame of thought and in which the sophisms of distraction are gestated; the latter lead the intellectual animal to fascination, and thereby, to the sleep of consciousness.

The Revolution of the Dialectic also in Identification, The Subconscious, The Words He Uses

2. — RETROSPECTION : What are we looking for in retrospection? Due to the mechanical life that he lives in, the intellectual animal forgets himself and falls into fascination; he goes around with an asleep consciousness without remembering what he did at the moment of rising, without knowing the first thoughts of the day, his actions and the places he has been to.

The Revolution of the Dialectic also in Identification, The Flower That Is Born, The Retrospective Exercise, The Science of Meditation

People forget themselves completely; they forget their own profound inner Being because they identify with the circumstances. Normally, people are asleep because of this, because they identify with the circumstances that surround them, and each one has his little psychological song, as I said there in my book Revolutionary Psychology.

The Fifth Gospel The Exercise of SELF-KNOWLEDGE also in Identification, The Psychological Song, The Remembrance of Oneself

Recently, I saw a woman watching a movie where the actors are crying. Well, fake crying, of course, but that woman who was watching the movie is crying terribly as well, in a state of dreadful anguish. See what identification is. What has that poor woman who has identified with that movie done? Well, she created the hero or the heroine of the movie, a new “I” that she created within herself. That new “I” has stolen part of her Consciousness. So now that person, if she was asleep before, she is even more asleep now. Why? Due to identification.

IIIHere you have the power of fascination

A street demonstration, a cowboy film, a boxing match, a forgotten umbrella and talk of cheques and gold serve as the examples. In each one the person forgets himself, becomes absorbed in the scene, and goes on dreaming while appearing to be awake.

It is quite natural for a professor to forget his umbrella, a book, or his wallet in his car. All this happens because the professor has his consciousness asleep, he is dreaming…

Fundamental Education, 1970 also in Identification

A boxer exchanging punches with another boxer is sleeping deeply, is dreaming, is totally identified with the event, is fascinated. If he were to awaken consciousness, he would look in all directions and immediately flee from the ring, wholly ashamed of himself and of the spectators.

The Buddha's Necklace, 1967 also in Identification

Identification and Fascination lead to the Sleep of the Consciousness. For example: you are going quite calmly on the street, you suddenly meet a public demonstration; the masses vociferate, they talk about the leaders of the people, the flags wave through the air, people seem to be crazy, everybody talks, everybody yells.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Identification

That public demonstration is very interesting; you already forgot everything you had to do, you become identified with the masses, the speaker’s words convince you.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Identification

The public demonstration is so interesting that you already forgot yourself, you have become identified so much with that street demonstration, that you no longer think of anything else, you are fascinated, you now fall into the sleep of consciousness; mixed with the shouting masses, you also shout and you even throw stones and insults; you are dreaming beautifully, you no longer know who you are, you have forgotten everything. We will now give you another simpler example: You are in your living room, seated before the television screen, cowboy scenes appear, there is shooting, lovers’ dramas, etc., etc.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Anger, Identification

The movie is very interesting, it has totally caught your attention; you have already forgotten yourself that you even shout with enthusiasm, you are identified with the cowboys, with the gunshots, with the couple of lovers.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Anger, Identification

The fascination is now terrible, you do not even remotely remember yourself, you have entered a very profound sleep; in those moments you only want to see the triumph of the hero of the movie, you rejoice with him, you are worried about the fate he may have. Thousands and millions are the circumstances that produce Identification, Fascination and Sleep.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself

Obviously the poor "intellectual humanoid'' of subjective psyche, was not only totally identified with everything, but also tremendously fascinated... and kept on dreaming... This "rational homunculus'' spoke of values, quotations, currencies, gold, enormous sums, cheques, riches, etc., etc., etc.

The Three Mountains, 1972 also in Identification

A practice

The method to awaken the consciousness is based on self-remembering. Every human being is fascinated by different things, as we already said in the preceding paragraph. When we are fascinated with a particular image or representation, we forget ourselves. We are dreaming at that time. I have seen people during a public demonstration throw themselves into violence. In such cases, gentlemen who in their sound judgment are not capable of speaking an ill word have insulted and thrown stones with the crowds in a state of confusion. Here you have the power of fascination; one forgets oneself and then falls asleep, often dreaming about completely absurd things. After the dream passes comes shame, embarrassment and problems. The Gnostic student must not allow himself to become fascinated by anything.

IVThe Ego exerts an extraordinary fascination upon our own Consciousness

The fascination is not only outside. Mystical pride, self-love, fantasy and the personality hold the consciousness enchanted with what one is not, and this inner hypnosis keeps a person from seeing himself as he is.

Parikalpita (Kuntag in Tibetan language) is the vain error of those who are fascinated in this valley of tears, wretched people with egoic consciousness, unfortunate people who adore their I’.

My Return to Tibet, 1969 also in Identification

The negative “I” of mystical pride deceives the devotees of the Path. Thus, believing themselves to be wise, they despise their Master and betray Him... The negative “I” appeals to our personal experiences, our memories, our best wishes, our sincerity. Hence, amidst all of these things, through a rigorous selection, this negative “I” presents something under a false light, something that fascinates. Thus, the outcome is failure...

Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology, 1975 also in Awakening

Nonetheless, as if our misfortune was not enough, negative emotions, self love and self esteem fascinate us, hypnotize us, never allowing us to remember ourselves, to see ourselves exactly the way we are...

Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology, 1975 also in Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself, Vanity

The intellectual animal is so hypnotized by his fantasy, that he dreams that he is a lion or eagle when in truth he is nothing more than a vile slug from the mud of the earth. The megalomaniac would never accept these aforementioned affirmations. Obviously, regardless of what people might say, he feels to be an arch-hierophant, without suspecting that fantasy is merely nothing. “Fantasy is nothing else but fantasy.” Fantasy is a real force, which acts universally upon mankind. It keeps the intellectual humanoid in a state of sleep (hypnotic state), causing him to believe that he is already a human being, that he possesses true individuality, a will, awakened consciousness and a mind of his own, etc.

Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology, 1975 also in Awakening, Imagination, Inspiration, Intuition, The Many I’s, Vanity

The fantasy-I overshadows the Being, it keeps one so fascinated in oneself, in what one is not, in what is not real, that it does not allow one to discover the Being, the Being that is within oneself, in one’s profundities.

The Fifth Gospel Imagination as POWER, Fantasy as Illness also in Identification, The Being Is the Being

But, how can that unfoldment into two take place, that separation into two: an inferior earthly man placed in an ordinary level, and another in a superior octave, within ourselves? How could the separation of those two types of men, the inferior and the superior, really take place within us? In what way? Do you believe that this would be possible if we continue to be fascinated by this fantastic personality, that we think is reality, but it is not?

The Fifth Gospel Imagination as POWER, Fantasy as Illness also in Identification, Personality

The time of great revolutions has come, the time in which we have to decide on the to be or not to be of philosophy, the time when we have to take up arms against ourselves, against the world, against Nature, against the Cosmos, against everything and against everyone. The time has come when we must break the shackles and leave this prison of misery in which we live. Such a prison is called the Ego. As long as we do not destroy this miserable prison, this filthy dungeon, our Consciousness will continue to be imprisoned there, functioning by virtue of its own conditioning, asleep, inert. Now you will comprehend why I care so much, why I said tonight that the main thing is to die. That is how it is, that is how it will be and that is how it must be!

Unfortunately, the Ego exerts an extraordinary fascination upon our own Consciousness. Listening to me, many of you will say that I am too pessimistic, you will put your hand on your heart to say: “Well, I’ve made some progress”. Each one will look for some justification for his conduct, for his way of being, because no one wants to recognize the truth, to recognize that he is a wretch.

VIntellective fascination is the gravest

Thought itself can fascinate. The reasoner is caught by his own dialectic, the mind identified with its projections falls into dreamlike states, and the student working on a defect loses lucidity once distraction takes over; against this stands the mind that receives without identification.

Answer: With great pleasure I will answer this new question from the audience. Allow me to inform you ladies and gentlemen that mental projections are of a completely subjective character, certainly very different to the real experiences that are of an objective type.

Yes, There Is a Hell, a Devil and Karma, 1973

In the first case, the mind projects what it has subconsciously elaborated and, identified with such projections, falls into fascination and in the dreams characteristic of unconsciousness.

Yes, There Is a Hell, a Devil and Karma, 1973 also in Identification, The Keys of Astral Travel, The Language of Dreams

In the second case, the mind has exhausted the process of thinking; it does not project, it is open to the new, it receives without identification and in absence of all fascination and of every dreamlike process.

Yes, There Is a Hell, a Devil and Karma, 1973 also in Identification, The Keys of Astral Travel, The Language of Dreams, The Mind

The merchandise of souls, of books and theories is frightful, it is rare for anybody to really succeed in finding the secret path, among the cobweb of so many contradictory ideas. Intellective fascination is the gravest of all this; there exists the tendency to nourish ourselves strictly in an intellectual way with all which reaches the mind.

The Great Rebellion, 1975

The convincing game of the reasoning dialectic, self-fascinates the reasoner, always making him confuse a cat with a hare.

The Great Rebellion, 1975

On of the principal obstacles in the comprehension of a defect is not being able to focus on the psychological element being studied, because the mind tends towards distraction. In the world of comprehension, when one tries to work on an ‘I’, everything becomes dark, one cannot see absolutely anything and the consciousness loses, at certain moments, its lucidity, rapidly falling into fascination.

IHumanity lives with its consciousness asleep

People work, walk, drive and die asleep. The sleep is named as the normal state of the intellectual animal, with only three percent of the consciousness awake, and infraconsciousness, unconsciousness and subconsciousness are described as zones of that one sleeping consciousness.

It is necessary to know that humanity lives with its consciousness asleep. People work sleeping. People walk through the streets sleeping. People live and die sleeping. When we come to the conclusion that the entire world lives sleeping, then we comprehend the necessity to awaken. We need the awakening of consciousness. We want the awakening of consciousness.

The Perfect Matrimony, 1950 (ed. 1966) also in Awakening, Identification

So-called infraconsciousness, unconsciousness, subconsciousness etc., are only different forms or zones of the sleeping consciousness. It is urgent to awaken consciousness to become illuminated, a clairvoyant, supraconsciousness.

The Perfect Matrimony, 1950 (ed. 1966) also in Awakening, Identification, The Subconscious

When dualism is done away with, when the mind becomes integrated, serene, quiet, profound, when it no longer compares, at that time the essence, the consciousness awakens, and this must be the true aim of fundamental education. Let’s distinguish between objectivity and subjectivity. In objectivity there is awakened consciousness. In subjectivity there is sleeping consciousness, subconsciousness. Only objective consciousness can enjoy objective knowledge.

Fundamental Education, 1970 also in Awakening, Identification, The Essence, The Mind, The Subconscious

Those who confuse the consciousness with psychological functions, thoughts, feelings, motor impulses and sensations, are in fact quite unconscious; they are deeply asleep. Those who acknowledge the existence of the consciousness, but who flat-out refuse to accept various degrees of consciousness, reveal a lack of conscious experience and the sleeping state of the consciousness.

Fundamental Education, 1970 also in Awakening

People live with Consciousness Asleep, they work dreaming, they drive cars dreaming and they also kill pedestrians who walk dreaming on the streets, absorbed in their own thoughts.

Question: Master, do you mean that there is no possibility of direct experience, as you have explained in your talks, without the dissolution of the psychological defects? Answer: I will answer in detail this question that comes from the audience. Sir, friends, ladies that are listening to me, direct experience is found associated with the percentages of awake consciousness.

Yes, There Is a Hell, a Devil and Karma, 1973 also in Awakening

Normally people only possess 3% of awake consciousness and 97% of subconsciousness or asleep consciousness.

The lunar consciousness sleeps deeply; this is the result of a memory that is unfaithful. The human being is only conscious of what he remembers; no one is conscious of the things that one does not remember. The Sinning Adam is memory. He is the “I” that dies and is reborn; this is the lunar consciousness.

Esoteric Course of Kabbalah also in Identification, The “I” Is Memory

This is the way of the world, full of people with their consciousness asleep. They live in a complete state of stupidity. No-one wants to see their cruelty and indolence.

The Social Christ

We must awaken at all costs! It is lamentable that the intellectual animal, mistakenly called man, has his Consciousness asleep. It is certain and absolutely true that out of a million of phenomena that happen around us, the intellectual animal only perceives a millionth part of them. This is sad, but it is the truth. People live with the Consciousness asleep, they appear like sleepwalkers; they work in an unconsciousness state, they drive cars in a totally unconscious state. That is the causa causarum due to which human beings do not know the mysteries of life and death.

IIBottled up within these psychic aggregates

The reason for the sleep is given here. The consciousness lies bottled within the many I's, dreams inside each of them and processes itself according to its own conditioning, so that each person is a legion without true individuality.

Within each “I” (of the Legion of Satanic “I’s”) the Consciousness sleeps profoundly. The Consciousness dreams within each “I.”

The Solar Bodies, 1968 also in Awakening, The Many I’s

Rains, contrarieties, vain swift happiness, originate new and annoying “I’s” Nevertheless, the wretched Human Marionette does not have even the smallest notion of these changes, because his consciousness is asleep, his sense of being is always within the last manifested “I”

The Solar Bodies, 1968

It is tacit that humanity has its consciousness bottled in the ego. It is clear that as long as people continue thinking as they think, feeling as they feel, and continue with their same rancid habits, they will not be able to awaken their consciousness; it will continue to be hypnotized. Consequently, or as a corollary, it can thus be said that the Bodhichitta will never come forth in people.

For the Few, 1980 also in Awakening

Disgracefully, the Essence, the Consciousness, is found bottled up within these psychic aggregates. Thus, the Consciousness processes itself by virtue of its own embottlement. Now we better comprehend why humanity is found in such a hypnotic state, unconscious and asleep.

Pistis Sophia Unveiled, 1983 also in Awakening, The Essence

But there is also something very decent in the depths of us, I want to refer to the Consciousness, to that which we have of soul. That Consciousness is embedded, unfortunately, bottled up, buried among all that multiplicity of “I’s” that we carry inside us.

The Fifth Gospel Magic and Experimental Psychology Public Lecture – 1976 also in The Many I’s

Now you will understand why we emphatically affirm that we have the Consciousness asleep. It is clear that the Consciousness buried among Myself, buried among all these devil “I’s” that we carry in our psyche, lies asleep; we are not awake.

The Fifth Gospel Magic and Experimental Psychology Public Lecture – 1976 also in Awakening, Identification

If we were awake, we could all see, hear, touch and feel the great realities of the superior worlds. We are sleeping people, unconscious, we do not know where we come from, where we are going to, or what is the purpose of our existence.

The Fifth Gospel Magic and Experimental Psychology Public Lecture – 1976 also in Awakening

Then, that intellectual knowledge that one acquires in school, etc., is relative, it is not anyone’s property. That of one’s own is that which one carries of the Essence, it is the Consciousness, it is the soul; that is indeed one’s own. Everything else is temporary. So, the harsh reality is that the Consciousness is asleep, unfortunately, and this is the saddest thing, it is asleep!

The Fifth Gospel Magic and Experimental Psychology Public Lecture – 1976 also in The Essence

Obviously, by analyzing all this thoroughly, we see the need to awaken, because only by awakening, we can know the truth. Jesus the Christ said: “Know the truth and it will make you free.”

The Fifth Gospel Magic and Experimental Psychology Public Lecture – 1976 also in Awakening

Each of you is a “legion”. Let us remember what Master Jesus asked the possessed person from the Biblical Gospel: “What is your name?” And the possessed person answered: “My name is Legion!” What is the name of each one of you present here? Legion! You do not have a true individuality, you have not attained it. The Consciousness in each one of you sleeps terribly. Why? Because it processes itself by virtue of its own bottling; therefore, it is in a state of hypnosis and that cannot be denied.

The Fifth Gospel The Need to Crystallize the Soul Second Chamber – Mexico City – January 1977 also in Awakening, The Many I’s

All these “I”-persons –I repeat– enter and leave our body. Within each “I”-person, we truly have a fraction of our own Consciousness bottled up. So, our Consciousness is bottled up within all that multiplicity of “I’s” which constitute the Myself. Our bottled-up Consciousness functions by virtue of its own conditioning, that is to say, we have the Consciousness asleep.

The Fifth Gospel The Verticality of Existence First Gnostic Youth Encounter – Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – July 10. 1975 also in Awakening, Identification, The Essence, The Many I’s

Out of all the physical phenomena that take place around us –I clarify and emphasize: the physical ones–, we can only perceive a millionth part of such phenomena, that is, there is an extraordinary multiplicity of physical phenomena that occur around us, and that we are not, in truth, capable of perceiving. We are asleep, but we think we are awake. We do not admit to being asleep, we even get offended when someone treats us like that, but, indeed, we need to awaken.

The Fifth Gospel The Verticality of Existence First Gnostic Youth Encounter – Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – July 10. 1975 also in Awakening

The four Gospels insist on the necessity of awakening. If we were awake, we could see, hear, touch and feel the great realities of the superior worlds. If we were awake, life for us would be totally different: we would not be victims of circumstances, we could handle them at will. But we are truly not awake, we are profoundly asleep; we sleep deeply, we ignore that we ignore.

IIIThe hypnotic power of the abominable Kundartiguador Organ

The collective hypnosis is attributed to the residue of the Kundartiguador organ, the descending serpent whose blind force crystallised in the psychic aggregates. Made fascinated with the beauties of this world, the human being now lives under a hypnosis that flows through all of nature, and even a brief awakening is pulled back into sleep.

The fact then was that after a severe examination of the situation, the Arch-physician and Chemist Angel Loisos destroyed the Kundartiguador Organ from within the human race, because the human race did not need it any more. The human being had abandoned all of his suspicions as he had become fascinated with the beauties of this world.

Christmas Messages, 1952–66 also in The Kundabuffer

People are hypnotized by that Blind Fohatic Force of the Kundartiguador Organ.

The Solar Bodies, 1968 also in Awakening, The Kundabuffer

Speaking about the School of the Fourth Way, we find that Gurdjieff, Ouspensky and Nicoll, have expounded that which they know, but the exposition contains many defects. For example: Gurdjieff commits the error of confusing the Kundalini with the abominable Kundartiguador organ, and Ouspensky commits the same error. We must not forget that there is that blind Fohatic force which has people hypnotised, but that it has nothing to do with the Kundalini. The Kundartiguador is the lunar fire. The bible speaks of the 44 fires, but one only can speak of two great fires: Kundalini and Kundartiguador. The first is the Pentecostal Fire, the ray of Vulcan ascending the spinal column; the positive fire which crystallises in worlds and suns. Its antithesis is the Kundartiguador, the negative fire which crystallises in those psychic aggregates, those screaming and troublesome I which we carry within. They are negative crystallisations which have people submerged in the unconscious.

Tarot and Kabbalah, 1978 also in Awakening, The Kundabuffer

It is easy to comprehend that when this Luciferian Fire crystallises in the entire legion of Devil ‘I’s that every one carries inside, the outcome is the unconsciousness.

My Return to Tibet, 1969 also in Lucifer

Nature inclined to passionate voluptuousness is without any doubt a unique seduction, and works upon all living creatures in a hypnotic way.

Parsifal Unveiled, 1970

As soon as the poor intellectual animal awakens even if it is only for a short moment — and opens his eyes to the crude reality of life, immediately the hypnotic power of the terrible serpent of the abyss charges back with increasing force. Then the unfortunate victim falls asleep again, and dreams that he is awakening or on the eve of awakening. Only sincere Gnostics who fully understand the difficulty of awakening consciousness know that this is possible only by means of conscious works and voluntary sufferings. The terrible infernal viper knows the whole modus operandi of mechanical imagination. We would never reject objective and conscious imagination, which is diaphanous and translucent.

The Secret Doctrine of Anahuac, 1974 also in Awakening, Imagination, Inspiration, Intuition

Although it may seem incredible, all human beings are in a state of “collective hypnosis”. Such hypnosis is produced by the residual state of the abominable Kundartiguador organ; when the latter was eliminated, the different psychic aggregates or inhuman elements which in their mass constitute the myself, the oneself, remained. These elements and subelements, in turn, condition the consciousness and keep it in a state of hypnosis. In this manner, therefore, hypnosis of a collective type exists. The entire world is hypnotized! The mind is engrossed in the world of the five senses and does not manage to comprehend how it could become independent of them; it firmly believes that it is a god. Our interior life, the true life of thoughts and feelings, continues being confused for our mere reasoning and intellective conceptions. Nonetheless, at the same time we know very well that the place where we really live is our world of thoughts and feelings; this is something that no one can deny.

The Revolution of the Dialectic also in Awakening, The Kundabuffer, The Mind

The one that goes up is the Bronze Serpent that healed the Israelites in the desert and the serpent that was coiled on the rod of Asclepius, the God of Medicine. The one that descends is the tempting serpent of Eden, it is the horrible seven-headed Python that was crawling through the mud of the earth, the one which Apollo, irritated, wounded with his darts. The latter is the one that has humanity hypnotized.

The Fifth Gospel The Wonders of Awakened Consciousness Public Lecture – 1975

The various psychic aggregates that we carry inside us, and within which the Consciousness is bottled, are the terrible result of the hypnotic power of the abominable Kundartiguador Organ, the descending serpent. Now you will understand why that horrible Python has massively hypnotized all humanity.

The Fifth Gospel The Wonders of Awakened Consciousness Public Lecture – 1975 also in Awakening, The Kundabuffer

Now then, it is obvious that the Essence, the Consciousness, bottled up within the ‘“I”, is processed by virtue of its own conditioning. Since the Ego is subjective because it is the result of error, the Consciousness, bottled up within the Ego, processes itself subjectively, it is in a state of hypnosis, it sleeps profoundly.

The Fifth Gospel Practical Solutions Against Collective Hypnotism Third Chamber – Mexico City – 1976 also in Awakening

Thus, the state of unconscious sleep in which humanity lives is due to the fact that the Consciousness is bottled up within the Ego; and since the Ego is the result of the abominable Kundartiguador Organ, we can draw the conclusion or corollary that the hypnotic sleep in which the Consciousness is found is due to the abominable Kundartiguador Organ.

The Fifth Gospel Practical Solutions Against Collective Hypnotism Third Chamber – Mexico City – 1976 also in Awakening, The Kundabuffer

Extending this to the collectivity, we could say that the crowds are hypnotized by the sinister force of the abominable Kundartiguador Organ. In making this assertion, we speak with accuracy. The funny thing about this is that people do not realize that they are hypnotized; they only come to know of hypnotism when that force is concentrated in one place, that is to say, in a hypnotic session, for example. Millions of human beings live in a state of hypnosis, and that is always unfortunate. Let us see, sister...

IVThey are hypnotized, but believe that they are awake

A hypnotized subject does whatever he is told, and so does humanity. Peoples go to wars they do not want, each person thinks his own way of thinking correct, and all, without exception of race or creed, are hypnotized while sure that they are awake.

What is it that we want with all this? To awaken consciousness; isn’t that so? That is the truth. That is what we want: to awaken. In the Oriental world they are not ignorant of the fact that people are asleep, no one is ignorant of it. But in the western world people believe that they are awake and nevertheless they do things that they do not want to do. They launch themselves into war, but they do not want to go to war, but they always go, even though they do not want to. Why? Because, they are hypnotized.

For the Few, 1980 also in Awakening

We know that if a hypnotized subject, for example, is ordered to go and kill someone, he will do it. That is already anticipated in the Penal Code of all the countries of the Earth. So it happens with people from all latitudes. They are hypnotized, but believe that they are awake. If one says to them that the hour to go to war has arrived, they go to war. They do not want to go, but they go because they are hypnotized. And the hypnotized subject, hypnotized he is. This is very serious, and tremendously true.

For the Few, 1980 also in Awakening

We need to come out of this hypnotic dream. That is true, but how are we going to come out of this hypnotic sleep? If we are content with our mental habits, with our system of reasoning, with our sentimental habits, with our distinct customs acquired by heredity and from family, then, even though we are listening to the teachings, here, in this room, we are simply wasting time.

For the Few, 1980 also in Awakening

Everyone has a way of thinking; everyone believes that his or her way is the most correct. But, really and truly, the dispersed ways of thinking of each one of us, or of everyone all together, have nothing correct, since people are hypnotized. How can a person who is hypnotized think correctly? But, they believe that they are thinking correctly. There is your error. Your mental habits are useless.

Obviously, psychological defects make us abnormal, that is, the inhabitants of Earth have an abnormal psyche, they are crazy, terribly crazy, but they do not realize it. I want you to understand that the Consciousness is bottled up among all those psychic aggregates which together constitute the Ego, the Myself, the “I Myself’. People think that they are awake, but they are mistaken, they sleep profoundly: they drive cars with the Consciousness asleep, they work asleep, they walk on the streets asleep, they live asleep, but they believe that they are awake.

The Fifth Gospel Analysis of the Human Psyche Public Lecture – 1977 also in Awakening, Identification

Have you ever seen a session of hypnotism in your life? The hypnotist goes to the hypnotized [and tells them] to undress, because we are facing a river and must pass it. The hypnotized one gets undressed, and if it is a poor little lady whom the hypnotist orders to undress, she will think twice; she will probably wake up and maybe not undress. When he tells them that they are drunk, they will talk like a drunkard; if they are told that a glass of water is a glass of wine and that they should drink it, but carefully, because they are going to get drunk, they will believe that it is really a glass of wine and they will get drunk. So, the hypnotized person believes in what he is told, he is crazy, terribly crazy, but nobody calls him crazy. Sure, how would they tell it to him? By the time they wake him up he has already played quite a ridiculous role.

The Fifth Gospel Analysis of the Human Psyche Public Lecture – 1977

However, I am going to tell you something that is terribly true: all human beings, without exception of race, creed, caste or color, are hypnotized. They have the Consciousness asleep, they have it totally stuck within the “I”.

The Fifth Gospel Analysis of the Human Psyche Public Lecture – 1977 also in Identification

Now you will understand the reason for the human unconsciousness. If people had at least ten percent of Consciousness awake, there would be no wars in the world. Unfortunately, humanity has only three percent of Consciousness awake. That means that ninety-seven percent of Consciousness sleeps profoundly.

The Fifth Gospel Analysis of the Human Psyche Public Lecture – 1977 also in Awakening

Why does humanity not know for itself, directly, the mysteries of life and death? Why do people not know where they come from or where they are going to? Why do they not know the reason for their existence? Simply because they sleep profoundly, but they ignore that they sleep.

You, my dear brothers, through these teachings and these conferences, have already received much esoteric learning. We have shown you how to become independent from the lunar forces, which are mechanistic, and how to acquire solar intelligence. I have told you that, by means of Fire, we can liberate ourselves from lunar mechanics; I have told you that, by means of Fire, we can become Solar Men. But, above all, I want us all to be honest here tonight. Have you already realized, by any chance, what your own level of the Being is, in which level of the Being you are? Are you conscious that you are hypnotized, that you are asleep?

VThey do not realize that they are hypnotized

Hypnosis is noticed only when it is concentrated in a session; the continuous hypnosis of daily life passes for character, fashion or justified whim. The lectures use the stage hypnotist's subject to show why people cannot perceive the wonders around them and why so many personalities act irresponsibly.

A practice

First of all, [one must] not allow the mind and the feelings to meddle in the various circumstances of life; the human personality must become calm, passive. This implies, in fact, a tremendous activity of the Consciousness; this means to learn to live consciously; this means to lay the foundations for the awakening. Everyone would like to see, hear, touch and feel the great realities of the Superior Worlds. But, really, how could sleeping people become exper-imenters of the great realities? How could those who have their Consciousness in dreams, be researchers of life in the supra-sensitive regions of Nature and of the Cosmos?

The Fifth Gospel Pedagogy of Knowing How to Live Third Chamber Mexico City – 1974 also in Awakening, Personality

One could object to me that if that is the case, then why do we not see them? Why do we not witness what is unusual? Why are we not given the possibility to experience those wonders? The answer is the following: no one has forbidden us the capacity of experimentation, no one prevents us from seeing and hearing what happens around us. If such phenomena are not perceptible at this moment to our external senses, it is due to a single reason –and a very serious one by the way–: we are in a state of hypnosis, asleep; and the person in a hypnotic trance becomes incapable of perceiving such phenomena.

The Fifth Gospel Pedagogy of Knowing How to Live Third Chamber Mexico City – 1974 also in Awakening

Much has been said about the abominable Kundartiguador Organ, a fatal organ that humanity had in ancient times. It has not been completely lost. We know well that a bone residue still exists at the lower base of the spine; no one ignores it. Such residue belongs to the abominable Kundartiguador Organ, and it possesses, among other things, a formidable hypnotic power; that general, collective, hypnotic current is fascinating.

The Fifth Gospel Pedagogy of Knowing How to Live Third Chamber Mexico City – 1974 also in Awakening, Identification, The Kundabuffer

If we see someone, for example, dressed with extravagance in the street, we do not feel astonishment; we simply say: “What an eccentric individual!” Another person who is with us will say: “That is how fashion is!” The person over there will exclaim: “There’s a hippie!”; and an elderly man, walking by on the opposite sidewalk, will merely think: “How are the people of the new wave!” But all of them are in a state of hypnosis and that is all.

The Fifth Gospel Pedagogy of Knowing How to Live Third Chamber Mexico City – 1974 also in Awakening

Submit any person X to a deep hypnotic sleep; tell him then that he is in the middle of the ocean, tell him to take off his clothes because he is going to drown, and you will see him taking off his clothes; tell him that he is a great singer, and you will see him singing, even if, in reality and in truth, he does nothing but scream; tell him to lie down on the floor, and he will lie down; to stand on his head and he will do it, because he is in a state of hypnosis.

The Fifth Gospel Pedagogy of Knowing How to Live Third Chamber Mexico City – 1974

It is very difficult –I repeat– to discover the state of hypnosis in which one is. One comes to realize that hypnotism exists when the hypnotic force flows faster, and when it concentrates in a specific place, when a hypnotism session is performed. Other than that, beside such a moment, one does not realize that one is in a state of hypnosis. If one could awaken from this sleep in which one is, he would then see the wonderful phenomena that have occurred around him since the beginning of the world.

The Fifth Gospel Pedagogy of Knowing How to Live Third Chamber Mexico City – 1974 also in Awakening

When we observe the humanoids, both in life and after death, we see that they are absolutely irresponsible, machines controlled by the various aggregates. The latter fight for supremacy. Each one of them wants to control the capital centers of the machine, that is the harsh reality. In that sense, all humanoids are irresponsible. The psychic aggregates are the result of the consequences of the abominable Kundartiguador Organ. We also said that the Consciousness is bottled up within the Ego, and that it processes itself according to its own conditioning. Now then, if the Ego is the result of the bad consequences of the abominable Kundartiguador Organ, this means that the Consciousness is hypnotized by that universal hypnotic force. All humanoids are victims of that hypnotic force, but people do not realize the harsh reality until such hypnotic energy flows more rapidly, in a precipitated and concentrated way, as in the hypnotic sessions.

If we observe carefully the humanoids, we will see that they are hypnotized, that they commit hundreds of mistakes –if we analyze them, it is true–, but we attribute it to the character, to the psychological song of people, we look for one hundred and fifty thousand justifications, etc.

The Fifth Gospel Serious Consequences of Human Hypnotism Third Chamber – Mexico City – 1973 also in Awakening

Let us observe an ordinary person in a hypnotic session, a passive person, a hypnotized person: he will do whatever the hypnotist tells him to do. The hypnotist tells him that he has to cross a river from one side to the other, so he will do it, no matter how many people surround him. If the hypnotist tells him that he is being attacked, he will try to flee in terror, why? Because he does what the hypnotist asks him to do and he believes what the hypnotist tells him.

The Fifth Gospel Serious Consequences of Human Hypnotism Third Chamber – Mexico City – 1973

Now, if we observe the basic life of people, we will see unusual, terrible extravagances, but for everything there is a justification. We would say: such hippy fashion, an extravagance in the way of dressing; that someone turns out to be doing something out of fashion –as they say–, these are whims. For everything there is a justification, but the harsh reality of things is that everyone is hypnotized and they do not know it. The hypnotic force comes –I repeat– from the abominable Kundartiguador Organ, this is true. The Ego comes from the abominable Kundartiguador Organ, and as the latter is subjective, it is processed within the Ego in a subjective way. This means that the Consciousness is hypnotized, it is a victim of hypnosis, a hypnosis produced by the abominable Kundartiguador Organ. Now we can understand the reason for the lack of responsibility of many personalities.

The Fifth Gospel Serious Consequences of Human Hypnotism Third Chamber – Mexico City – 1973 also in Awakening

Master: Well, is that not a crazy thing, to see a group of young people running down the street naked to get into a car? They are simply hypnotized.

The Fifth Gospel The Binary Serpentine Power

Well, then, my dear brothers, all these aberrations indicate to us that humanity is hypnotized. But they do not realize that they are hypnotized. And who has got them hypnotized? The terrible serpent Kali has them hypnotized. But they do not realize that they are hypnotized, and they find justification for their hypnosis. People only get to realize that collective hypnosis exists, that hypnotism exists, when the hypnotic force flows more rapidly, when it is concentrated in a hypnology room, in a center where someone is hypnotized. But outside that instant, people ignore that they are hypnotized. If the subject of a hypnotic experiment is told to stand on his head, he does that. If he is told that he is on the bank of a river, that he should undress and cross to the other side, that he is a good swimmer, he would start slowly undressing himself. Of course, he accepts what he is told, he believes what he is told because he is in a state of hypnosis. He is doing fifty thousand foolish things which are more absurd than those which a drunk would commit, an inebriate, but for him they are logical.

11 passages

IIt is clear that we are dreaming

The waking state is shown to be a dream. Eating while thinking of business, passing one's stop on the bus, failing to return a friend's greeting, knocking at the wrong door: each is called dreaming, though everybody is convinced of being awake and is offended to hear otherwise.

If we are eating and thinking about business, it is clear that we are dreaming. If we are driving an automobile and we are thinking of our fiancée, it is logical that we are not awake, we are dreaming. If we are working and we are remembering our child's godfather or godmother, or our friend, or brother, etc, it is clear that we are dreaming.

Christmas Messages, 1952–66 also in Awakening

It is impossible to have objective knowledge as long as we have not attained selfconsciousness. People dream while they live and work; nevertheless, they mistakenly believe they are awake. During the normal dream state of the physical body, the ego, enveloped in its body of desires, sleepwalks through the molecular region, dreaming. On returning to the physical body and then to the waking state, the individual continues his dreams. Whoever awakens consciousness no longer dreams but awakens in the internal worlds while the physical body sleeps.

The Buddha's Necklace, 1967 also in Awakening, The Language of Dreams

When a person understands that he is asleep, the process of self-awakening begins. What we are saying is not something people readily accept. If we tell an intellectual that he is asleep, he will certainly be offended. People are fully convinced that they are awake. People work while asleep... dreaming; they drive cars while asleep… dreaming; they get married while asleep; and they live while sleeping... dreaming: nevertheless, they are totally convinced that they are awake.

The Buddha's Necklace, 1967 also in Awakening

You are traveling rapidly by urban transit, planning to get off at a certain street. Suddenly, the memory of a loved one comes to mind. You identify with that memory, become fascinated, and later have a waking dream. Suddenly, you cry, “Oh, no! Where am I? I have passed my stop. I should have got off at that corner, at that street.” Later, you realize that your consciousness had been absent. You get off the vehicle and walk back to the corner where you should have left the bus.

The Buddha's Necklace, 1967 also in Identification

Many times, you are walking on the street, absorbed in your own thoughts, identified with those thoughts, fascinated, dreaming beautifully; suddenly, a friend passes near you, greets you, you do not return the greeting because you do not see him, you are dreaming; the friend becomes angry, he assumes that you are a person without manners or that you are possibly angry; the friend is also going around dreaming; if he was awake, he would not make such conjectures to himself, he would immediately realize that you are walking around asleep.

Master: Well, one can also dream that one is awake. Many can dream that they are awake, but still they are not. Awakening is what is important, and not dreaming that you are awake, because we are asleep...! One dreams that one is awake, simply, when that kind of phenomena that we are talking about happens to the individual, because to the awakened individual, truly awakened, that kind of phenomena does not happen. The awakened person lives awake in an intensified wakefulness, during those moments in which the physical body lies in bed.

The Fifth Gospel Gnostic Discipline for Awakening Interview – Mexico City – 1970 also in Awakening, The Language of Dreams

In the inferior psychism, there is frightful sense-lessness: people who dream and think that they are awake, and what is most serious is that they dream of themselves as awake, they dream believing that they are awake. Such dreamers of a negative – mediumistic– type, such deluded people project their daydreams onto people and see in people their own negative, incoherent and absurd daydreams. That is the harsh reality of the facts!

IIIt spends its entire life dreaming

The vigil is called another form of sleep. At night the ego carries its daytime dreams into the internal worlds and on waking continues them, so a whole life passes in dreams; asking whether one is in the physical or the astral, and staying awake from moment to moment, are given beside this teaching.

Initiation is not a matter of theories, but of realities. “Absolutely practical.” The first thing that is needed is to awaken the Consciousness. It happens that human beings during the normal hours of sleep, when they are not in the physical body, they roam around through the Astral absolutely asleep and they concern themselves with the same things of the day. These sleeping people are not of use as initiates. I know hundreds of theosophists and rosacrucians that do nothing but live asleep and even though they pay dues and read books, and show themselves to be authoritarians before others, at heart, they a re nothing but poor sleeping people. So, the first thing that is needed is to awaken the Consciousness, and in order for that there is a necessity to cultivate discernment.

On the other hand, those who still have not dissolved the “I” and who have neither incarnated the soul nor the Spirit, live within the internal worlds with their consciousness asleep; they only have a subjective consciousness and subjective perception.

During sleep, the ego escapes from the physical body. This departure of the ego is necessary so that the vital body can repair the physical body. In the internal worlds we are able to affirm that the ego takes its dreams there, to the internal worlds. In the internal worlds the ego occupies itself with the same things that fascinate it in the physical. Thus, during his sleep we see the carpenter in his carpentry shop, the policeman guarding the streets, the barber in his barbershop, the blacksmith at his forge, the drunkard in the tavern or bar, the prostitute in the house of pleasures, absorbed in lust etc., etc. All these people live in the internal worlds as if they were in the physical world. During sleep it does not occur to any living being to ask whether they are in the physical or astral world. Those who have asked such a question during sleep have awoken in the internal worlds. Then, with amazement, they have been able to study all the marvels of the Superior Worlds. Only by becoming accustomed to asking ourselves this question from moment to moment during the so called vigil state can we manage to ask such a question of ourselves in the superior worlds during the hours given over to sleep. Clearly, while we are asleep we repeat everything that we do during the day. If during the day we accustom ourselves to asking this question, then this, during nocturnal sleep, whilst outside the body will lead to us repeating the same question to ourselves. The result will be the awakening of consciousness.

The Perfect Matrimony, 1950 (ed. 1966) also in Awakening, Identification, The Language of Dreams

The Intellectual Animal divides his painful and miserable life between run-of-the-mill sleep and the improperly called Vigil state, which unfortunately is another form of sleep. While the physical body sleeps in bed, the Ego, enveloped in its Lunar Bodies, goes around with the consciousness asleep like a somnambulist moving freely in the molecular region.

During the hours of rest of the physical body, the Ego (I) exits the physical body and takes along its dreams wherever it goes. When it returns to the physical body, when it once again enters the Vigil state, it continues with its same dreams and in this manner, it spends its entire life dreaming.

For example: on one occasion, while working in the astral world, a dream slipped out of my mind. Ipso facto I realized that a dream had just slipped out, and before it took shape in those supra-sensitive regions, I eliminated it. So, I did not give it the opportunity to hypnotize or fascinate me, because I live awake in those worlds, and I see those who are asleep when I work in the supra-sensitive regions. Here, there and everywhere there are thousands of persons, people who are asleep, they look like sleepwalkers as they walk; people who have never in their lives worried about the awakening of the Consciousness.

IIIMan is a sleeping machine

The asleep machine does not know that it does not know, and cannot grasp the difference between objective and subjective consciousness. Accepting that one is a machine is presented as the beginning of ceasing to be one, together with the instruction not to identify with pleasures, dramas and the scenes of one's life.

The asleep machine, the humanoid automaton is very far from being able to comprehend the difference between objective consciousness and subjective consciousness; the machine has its own thesis precisely based on the profound sleep of the consciousness. It is not possible in any manner to make an asleep profane person comprehend the difference between consciousness and subconsciousness, between objectivity and subjectivity, between sleep and vigil, etc.

Only by awakening consciousness is it possible to accept such differences. Man is a sleeping machine. If you want to wake up from the deep sleep in which you live, do not become identified with pleasures, desires, emotions, dramas, the scenes of your life, etc., etc. Call yourself to vigilance every step of the way; remember, good disciple, that people are dreaming. Observe people as they dream, examine all the dreams in which humanity lives. However, do not become identified, so that you can awaken. People believe themselves to be awake since they are not lying down in bed… However, their consciousness is sound asleep and dreaming. All the things you see in people are simply dreams. Remember, to not become identified does not mean abandoning your duties as a father, a mother, a child, etc. Do not become identified and thus you will awaken from that deep sleep in which you live.

IVWe are sleeping automatons

Schooling does not wake anyone. Teachers and students act like robots, fill their heads with theories while the consciousness sleeps, and leave the classroom as automatons, while parents and teachers project their own fascinations into the child until a false consciousness is formed.

Teachers and male and female students live with the consciousness asleep. They truly act like robots, going to school, college and university in an unconscious and subjective manner, without really knowing why or for what reason.

Fundamental Education, 1970 also in Awakening, Identification

It is useless to fill our heads with more and more theories, and to quote Dante, Homer, Virgil, etc., if our consciousness is asleep, if we do not have a clear and objective consciousness about ourselves, about the subjects we study and about everyday life.

Fundamental education has the aim of awakening consciousness. Ten or fifteen years of study in school, college, and university, are useless if upon leaving the classroom we are sleeping automatons.

It is difficult for an individual to embrace the whole of the Teaching, due to the fact that he is hypnotized. The most serious thing is that he does not realize that he is in a state of hypnosis, that is what is most serious. I already explained to you what has happened with the Consciousness. Unfortunately, it now works with two systems instead of one. It happens that when we are born –as I told you in my previous conference– we bring all the data we need to become real men. But our parents, our relatives, our teachers at school, our friends, are in a state of unconsciousness that is projected into our psyche: all the fascinations from the state they are in, their lack of culture, their famous elementary [schools] that are worthless, their much-vaunted secondary [school], things of asleep people, etc.

The Fifth Gospel Serious Consequences of Human Hypnotism Third Chamber – Mexico City – 1973 also in Identification

Indeed, we are wrong in the mind, in the memory, with all that our parents teach us at home, the teachers at school, our little friends on the street, etc. Besides creating an absurd personality, we are getting unbalanced with this false data of those who are in a hypnosis state of the real Consciousness, to such an extent that the real Consciousness remains cornered, remains underestimated. In it are contained, for example, the attributes of authentic faith, the real hope and the legitimate love; there is religion, wisdom; also, those particles of pain of the Father who is in secret, who suffers for our mistakes. But this data is progressively relegated, introduced into the depths wrongly classified by the famous contemporary psychologists as sub-consciousness, and some define it as human infra-consciousness, taking as real Consciousness the result of all the information we have received during our first years. An artificial, false Consciousness is formed, which is the one that is imposed everywhere.

IWhat can he know about the mysteries of life and death

The sleeping consciousness perceives three of the seven dimensions and does not know where it was before birth or what awaits it after death. Asleep, a person cannot remember past lives or hear even a familiar word as new; the way out begins by admitting that one has a psychology and by the path of sanctity.

The world has “Seven Dimensions”; however, the Intellectual Animal only perceives three because his Consciousness is asleep.

We have to comprehend that we are asleep. If people were awakened, they could see, touch and feel the great realities of the Superior Worlds. If people were awakened, they would remember their past lives. If people were awakened, they would see the Earth just as it is. Currently, they are not seeing the Earth just as it is.

When they raised their eyes toward the infinite, they could perceive other planetary humanities. The planets of space were visible to the ancient people in a different way, for they saw the aura of the planets, and they could perceive as well the Planetary Genies. But when the human Consciousness became imprisoned within all those “I’s” or psychic aggregates which constitute the Myself, the “I”, the Ego, then the Consciousness fell asleep. Now, it processes itself by virtue of its own bottling.

The Fifth Gospel The Exercise of SELF-KNOWLEDGE also in Awakening, The Essence

Now, unfortunately, humanity has atrocious-ly involuted. In these times, humanity is in a state of expiration. If we do not worry about self-discovering, about knowing ourselves better, we will continue with the Consciousness asleep, stuck among all the “I’s” that we carry within us.

The Fifth Gospel The Exercise of SELF-KNOWLEDGE also in Awakening, Identification

Above all, we should be interested in awakening, because as long as we continue asleep as we are, what will we be able to know about the mysteries of life and death? What will we be able to know about the real, about the truth? For one to be able to get to know the mysteries of life and death thoroughly, it is indispensably necessary to awaken. It is possible to awaken if one sets out to do it; but it is not possible to awaken if the Consciousness continues to be bottled up among all those ”I’s”.

The Fifth Gospel The Exercise of SELF-KNOWLEDGE also in Awakening

And, what would we say about the Consciousness? Do you have Consciousness? I think you do, don’t you? But you have it asleep! If you had it awake, you would know by direct experience about the mysteries of life and death. But you do not know why you were born or when you were born. You were told that you were born in such year, on such date, but that was because you were told. But where were you before you were born? Can any of you tell me where you were before you were born? Clearly not!

The Fifth Gospel The Consequences of Psychological Plurality Public Lecture also in Awakening

And death, what about it? What is there beyond death? Does any of you know it, know it from direct experience? None! You all live a little bit of life –which, by the way, is very bitter– for a few years. Before birth, you do not know anything; after death, you do not know anything! For a few years you live there with the Consciousness asleep, struggling to put food on the table, struggling to pay the rent, or wear these rags so as not to walk around naked, struggling for some love, for a being to love, an attachment. Then comes death, and what then? What do you know about death? Nothing, right?

The Fifth Gospel The Consequences of Psychological Plurality Public Lecture also in Identification

So, the harsh reality of the facts is that all people have their Consciousness asleep. If they had it awake, they would know where they were before birth. If you had it awake you would know what awaits you after death. But you do not know anything about that because your Consciousness is asleep.

The Fifth Gospel The Consequences of Psychological Plurality Public Lecture also in Identification

So, human beings have the Consciousness of sleepwalkers: they walk asleep. It would be interesting to awaken the Consciousness, that would indeed be interesting, because then one could perceive by himself, directly, the truth. But while one is as he is, with the Consciousness asleep, what can he know about the mysteries of life and death. Nothing, zilch!

Is there any way to awaken the Consciousness? I say that yes there is, and I am going to give you the technique tonight. First of all, one has to admit that he has his own psychology. People find this a bit difficult: they admit that they have a body of flesh and bone because they can touch it, they can grab their hands, smell them, etc., but they find it difficult to accept that they have a psychology, because they cannot see it. How could they see it, touch it, feel it?

The Fifth Gospel The Consequences of Psychological Plurality Public Lecture also in Awakening

We have often heard a word thousands or even millions of times, and we think we know it, that we have listened to it, but in reality and in truth we have not listened to that word. On any given day we hear it and it seems new to us, but if we have heard it thousands of times, why does it seem new to us now? Because we had always listened to it with our Consciousness asleep, and one day we were lucky enough to listen to it with our Consciousness awake and it appears to us like something new.

IIThey are fighting and they do not know why

Wars, accidents and avoidable disasters are put down to the sleep. Cosmic vibrations move millions of sleeping machines against one another, firemen walk into dynamite stores, traffic kills as many as a world war, and people react only after the event.

A famous writer considered that the quantity of deaths due to accidents of transit (according to annual statistics) is equivalent to the millions of deaths in the 1st World War. This appears incredible but everything continues the same, nothing changes. The accidents continue daily without human society making even a minimum effort to stop them. To people this appears natural, even normal. In reality this is only possible in people that are asleep, indolent and cruel. We should recognize that human beings have not woken up yet. They have their consciousness asleep, only in this way can we explain why this barbarism doesn’t change. This shouldn’t, however, be an excuse to continue with this murder by accident. The time has arrived to COMPREHEND that we are cruel and heartless. When we PROFOUNDLY COMPREHEND that we are cruel and heartless then in a spontaneous form COMPASSION can arise within us.

Friends, it is urgent to comprehend that all human beings are hypnotized. There is a hypnotic force in all of nature that has humanity submerged in hypnosis. Awakening is urgent! And for this, we need to profoundly observe ourselves. Only on that basis, is the dissolution of the Ego, the “I”, the Myself, the Oneself possible.

The Fifth Gospel Analysis of the Human Psyche Public Lecture – 1977 also in Identification, Psychological Death

The human body is a machine, and we all look like machines. What is war, what are wars for? Many times, in the cosmos there is a catastrophe: one world collides with another, or a comet falls on a sun, etc., that is, any cosmic phenomenon is enough for certain types of vibrations to reach the planet Earth. Human machines capture those vibrations and then they launch themselves into war; millions of sleeping machines against millions of sleeping machines on the battlefields.

Of course, the justifications come: “No, courage, they have demonstrated their heroism.” That is, we seek to wash away the thing and justify it as we can, but the reality was that they perished. That is the harsh reality of the facts, and they perished because of having the Consciousness asleep.

The Fifth Gospel Chaotic Consciousness and Intelligent Consciousness Public Lecture – Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico also in Fear

We see how people react to the impacts, to what has already happened. But never in life, do I see people foreseeing things, but always afterwards: if something happens to them, they grab on to it, they run to look, to see what they can do, to see how they can remedy it, when it is already, for what?, when the thing has already happened. Why is that happening to them? Because they are asleep.

The Fifth Gospel Chaotic Consciousness and Intelligent Consciousness Public Lecture – Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico also in Awakening

Many times, in the infinite cosmos, there is a clash of worlds –because sometimes the worlds collide, they have been able to see them with telescopes–. Just as our cars collide, so do the worlds of space, sometimes, they collide. They are frightful catastrophes. Figure for yourselves a clash of worlds, how terrible it will be... And then that force comes here, to our Earth, and what do the earthlings do? They receive it and immediately enter into activity: wars are declared, they go to the battlefields, they raise slogans for democracy, for peace, for I do not know what, for I do not know when, but they ignore what was that which sent them to war: it was nothing more than the vibration from a clash of worlds in space that touched them. That force touched them, then there are millions of human beings against millions on the battlefields; they are fighting and they do not know why, they are asleep. If they were awake, it is obvious that they would not be in that.

Therefore, the human Consciousness is asleep. What is needed is to wake up? Of course, it is needed to get out of that state of unconsciousness in which one finds himself. IIIYou are asleep, you die and you know not why

Whoever lives asleep dies asleep. The dead wander like sleepwalkers, believe they are still alive, fail to recognise their own body in the coffin, cannot choose where they will be reborn, and return to a new womb as unconscious as they left.

The astral ghost that mortals possess is nothing more than an out line of a man. It does not even have unity. This ghostly facade is a den of demons and of all kinds of filthy and abhorrent entities. Within this astral ghost lives the “I” (the Devil). This is an infernal legion. The “I” is Legion. Just as the body is composed of many atoms, so also the “I” is composed of millions of “I’s.” Diabolic intelligences, repugnant demons who quarrel amongst themselves. When a per son dies he becomes just that: Legion. The person himself becomes dust. Only “that” remains alive; the legion of “I’s”. Clairvoyants usually meet the disincarnated dressed differently and appearing simultaneously in different places. The person seems to have become many people is legion. Nevertheless, when we have given birth within us to the Christic astral body, we continue after death living in that sidereal body. Then we are really immortal. Those people who possess the Christic astral body find after death that they have the consciousness awake. Ordinary disincarnated people live after death with the consciousness asleep. Death is really a return to fetal conception. Death is the return to the seed. Everyone who dies returns to a new maternal womb totally unconscious, asleep.

The Perfect Matrimony, 1950 (ed. 1966) also in Return and Reincarnation, The Many I’s

At the hour of death, the Ego takes along its dreams, its worldliness and lives in the world of the dead with its dreams; it continues dreaming, with the Consciousness asleep, it ambulates like a somnambulist, asleep, unconscious.

I remember the pathetic case of a poor carrier of heavy bundles; after his death, his ego went around carrying a load, package or bundle on his back. Whe n I tried to make him comprehend his situation, when I tried to make him understand that he was already very dead and that he had no reason to go around carrying heavy bundles on his body, he looked at me with the eyes of a somnambulist; his consciousness was asleep, he was incapable of comprehending me.

The dead person presented himself attired in a certain gray suit that he wore in life; he came laughing alone, he seemed truly somnambulist, he conversed nonsense, something that he had heard someone say... Useless were my efforts to make him recognize me; the wretched person slept profoundly; certainly he did not see me; in essence, he really perceived exclusively his own mental forms and laughed like a lunatic, like an idiot. Here we have two aspects that come to clarify then, the matter in question. That dead person projected his own mental forms, he dreamed them, he was absolutely fascinated with them and did not even perceive me.

19. After death can one recognize one’s own body in the coffin?

Beyond Death

They can see it, but they do not recognize it because, since they have the consciousness asleep, they never believe that it is their own body, and they think that they are dealing with the body of another person.

Beyond Death

Reflect a little: up to now you are but a living ghost, a sleeping specter. You sleep, poor ghost, while your physical body sleeps, and after death you escape from the graveyard or cemetery sleeping… Woeful ghost, poor soulless being, reflect and meditate. Observe and celebrate the great covenant of Arcanum XIX so that you can incarnate your Soul and truly be. You, unfortunate creature, do not yet exist. You are asleep, you die and you know not why; you are born and you know not why. Only the blessed flame of love will make you able to truly exist, for you do not yet have real existence.

But I did see that sleepwalker’s state of his eyes, that is how the deceased are: after death they walk around like that, like sleepwalkers, because it never occurred to them during their lifetime to work on themselves, so they never awakened the Consciousness. We must situate ourselves in the plane of the harshest realities. In no way have I come here with the purpose of being pessimistic, nor do I intend to fill your hearts with pessimism. I only wanted to put on the terrain of realities the psychological state in which each and every one of us finds himself. As long as we have not eliminated from our interior all those “I”-defects that we carry, our Consciousness will be profoundly asleep: we will die without knowing when; we will be born without knowing how or why; we will continue in the beyond as sleepwalkers, as ghosts. That is what our life has been like; thus it has been and thus it will be as long as we do not eliminate the “I”-defects from within ourselves.

IVThe cause of esoteric failure is due to the sleeping consciousness

Sincere students, leaders of esoteric groups and whole congregations fail because they are asleep and dream that they are awakened. They follow others from cradle to grave, speak of what they do not know, harm their fellow men, and enter the abyss convinced that they are doing very well.

This present humanity has their consciousness asleep and they are entering into the Under-World in this state; yet, they are totally convinced that they are doing very well.

The Hierophants knew very well that the sleeping disciples sooner or later would abandon the work in the Ninth Sphere. What is the worst is that these failing ones self-cheat themselves by thinking the best of themselves. Almost always they fall as harlots over the arms of some new little school which will grant unto them some kind of consolation. Afterwards, they pronounce phrases like these: I do not follow the Gnostic teachings, because they demand a couple. This is a matter for oneself since the Liberation, the Great Work, is a matter which has to be searched for alone.

However, the believers are not able to agree among themselves because they have their consciousness asleep; they know nothing. Nothing is evident to them. They have never personally talked with an Angel; they have never consciously and positively entered the celestial regions. IThe first thing we need is to know that we are asleep

Awakening starts with recognising the sleep, not intellectually but in the consciousness. Like the madman who begins to recover when he admits his madness, the one who accepts that he is asleep has begun to wake, and erudition without that recognition is worth less than an awakened illiterate.

The individual man himself, and no one else but he, can realize for an instant, for a moment, that before that instant, before that moment, he was not truly conscious; that his consciousness was asleep. Afterwards he will forget that experience, or retain it as a memory; as the memory of a powerful experience.

Those get lost. Having fulfilled their one hundred and eight existences, they enter the submerged involution of the Infernal Worlds. IITeaching the path of awakening

One lecture answers a request for a key to awaken. It begins with the ninety-seven percent of subconsciousness, the need to accept the sleep and the dissolution of the ego, then teaches not to forget oneself, shows how a shop window or a television produces identification, fascination and sleep, and closes with the observation of place.

Disciple: We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your answer, Master, and for the message you have given us, and not wanting to abuse your kindness, we want to beg you that with your wisdom, you give us a key or a technique to awaken the Consciousness, as the majority of us are struggling to awaken the Consciousness and we are asleep.

The Fifth Gospel Gnostic Discipline for Awakening Interview – Mexico City – 1970

Master: With the utmost pleasure we will give some explanations related to the awakening of the Consciousness. First of all, it is indispensable to understand, my dear brothers, that the Consciousness of human beings is asleep, unfortunately. People do not want to understand that they are asleep, they all think they are awake, but they asleep. People drive cars dreaming, they do business dreaming, they walk on the streets convinced they are awake, but they sleep profoundly, they dream.

The Fifth Gospel Gnostic Discipline for Awakening Interview – Mexico City – 1970 also in Awakening

We can assure you that there is a ninety-seven percent of subconsciousness and a three percent of Consciousness. Speaking in other terms, we would say that ninety-seven percent of the Consciousness is asleep and that there is only three percent of awakened Consciousness. However, there are people who do not reach the three percent of awakened Consciousness, normally they reach two percent, and there are those who only reach one percent. But if we tell people that their Consciousness is asleep, they would not believe it, rather they would be offended. It is hard to tell people that they sleep, because they do not believe you, they think they are awake, or they think that we are hurting them, that we are offending them.

First of all, it is necessary to convince ourselves sincerely that we are asleep. When one accepts that one is asleep, it is a sign or symptom that he wants to awaken. This is something very similar to the madman who is mad: no madman accepts that he is mad, all madmen think that they are very well. When an madman accepts that he is mad, it is an unequivocal sign that he is getting better. And you can see this clearly in the asylums: there is no madman who accepts that he is mad.

The Fifth Gospel Gnostic Discipline for Awakening Interview – Mexico City – 1970 also in Awakening

Observe in the asylums that those madmen who are almost ready to get out from the asylum accept that they are mad, they understand they are mad, and that is precisely the unequivocal sign that they are already getting notably better. The same happens with people who have their Consciousness asleep: they do not accept they are asleep; but when they accept it, it is an unequivocal signal that they want to awaken or that they begin to awaken.

How to achieve this awakening? Obviously, we already know that the foundation is in the dissolution of the Ego, that is unquestionable, and that is a matter that you do not ignore. It is therefore indispensable to never forget one-self. But it is very easy to forget oneself. Ouspensky, for example, set out one night to go walking awake on the streets of Saint Petersburg –I say “walking awake” to differentiate this from “walking asleep”, which is what all ordinary people do; that is what everybody does–. That man walked and walked watching himself, observing himself, controlling the mind and the senses. This man walked everywhere. Suddenly, he wanted to prepare his cigarettes –he was a smoker–, he saw a cigarette shop and entered to have them prepare not some cigarettes, but simply some cigars. When he left the shop smoking, he no longer remembered the exercise that he was practicing. He walked along many streets of Saint Petersburg until he arrived at his house. Upon entering his room, he remembered himself again. Then, with grief, he realized that he had forgotten the exercise and that his Consciousness had fallen asleep upon entering that cigarette shop. After that he had walked along many parts truly like a sleepwalker, he had entered a dream.

See how difficult it is to not forget oneself. It is easy to forget oneself. But when I say “to not forget oneself” I want to refer to watching the senses and the mind, because if one does not control the senses and the mind, one falls into the sleep of the Consciousness; self-observing your feelings, your internal and external impulses, your emotions, your instincts, your habits, etc.

The second aspect or the second phase [for the awakening] of the Consciousness: object or objects. If one sees a beautiful object: a suit or a ring, a perfume, whatever it is, and one sees it in a store window –as you say over there, in a “shopwindow”–, and if he is enchanted by that object which he is seeing there, the first thing that happens is that he falls into unconsciousness. Why? Because he forgot himself.

The Fifth Gospel Gnostic Discipline for Awakening Interview – Mexico City – 1970 also in Awakening

Upon seeing the object, there are several processes. First: identification. One forgets oneself and identifies with the object. He says: “How beautiful, how beautiful this is! If I had money, I would buy it!”, etc.

The Fifth Gospel Gnostic Discipline for Awakening Interview – Mexico City – 1970 also in Identification

Then comes fascination: one is fascinated by the object. If it is a beautiful suit, one says: “How nice! As soon as I have money, I will buy it; this color is very beautiful!”, etc. And the woman would say: “Yes, this dress is very pretty. I would buy it!” Well, in the end, the fascination would come with that object, with that article of clothing, and then one would enter the sleep of the Consciousness.

Master: Television, precisely, suits very well the matter at hand. People, in front of television, forget themselves and fall into the fascination of what they are seeing; then they sleep fully.

The Fifth Gospel Gnostic Discipline for Awakening Interview – Mexico City – 1970 also in Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself

Since television was invented, unity has been lost in homes, because, for example, the husband arrives home tired from work, the wife no longer goes out to receive him with open arms, the man no longer has that joy. Why? The lady is watching television; the man may need her and she is busy, she is watching the soap opera of the day, she is fascinated by it. But anyways, let us not blame only women either; men also get fascinated by everything they see there to such an extent that they completely forget everything that is happening in the house. That is a vivid example of the sleep of the Consciousness.

IIIWe must self-remember from moment to moment

The remedy for fascination is to remember oneself before every representation that could capture the attention. The aspirant observes speech, laughter and gait without losing the sense of the I within, watches every thought and impulse as it arises, and asks where he is.

A practice

The human being who is fascinated does not remember himself. We must self-remember from moment to moment. We need to Self-Remember in the presence of every representation that could fascinate us. Let us pause before every representation and ask ourselves: Where am I? Am I in the physical plane? Am I in the astral plane? Then give a little jump with the intention of floating in the surrounding atmosphere. It is logical that if you float it is because you are outside the physical body. The result will be the awakening of consciousness. The object of asking this question in each moment is so that it becomes engraved in the subconscious, so that it may manifest later during the hours given to sleep, hours when the ego is really outside the physical body. You should know that in astral, things appear just as here in the physical plane. During sleep, and after death, people see everything there in a form so similar to the physical world, that because of this they do not even suspect that they are outside the physical body. No dead person ever believes himself to have died; he is fascinated and profoundly asleep. If, during life, the dead had made a practice of remembering them selves from moment to moment, if they had struggled against the fascination of the things of the world, the result would have been the awakening of consciousness. They would not dream. They would walk in the internal worlds with awakened consciousness. Whoever awakens consciousness can study during the hours of sleep all the marvels of the superior worlds. Whoever awakens the conscious ness lives in the superior worlds as a totally awakened citizen of the Cosmos. Then he lives with the Great Hierophants of the White Lodge.

It may seem incredible, but when the student observes himself, he does not remember himself. Aspirants, without a doubt, do not feel themselves; they are not conscious of themselves. Improbable as it may seem, when the Gnostic aspirant observes his way of laughing, speaking, walking, etc., he forgets himself. This is incredible, but true. It is essential, however, to try to remember ourselves while observing ourselves. This is fundamental if we wish to awaken our conscious ness. To observe and to know ourselves, without forgetting ourselves, is terribly difficult, but is urgent if we wish to awaken our consciousness.

The Buddha's Necklace, 1967 also in Awakening, Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself

What we are saying seems foolish. People ignore the fact that they are asleep and that they don’t remember themselves even when they are looking at their whole body in a mirror, not even while observing themselves in minute detail. This forgetting of self, this lack of self-remembering, is really the “causa causorum” of all human ignorance. When a person arrives at a deep understanding that he cannot remember himself, then he is very close to awakening consciousness.

The Buddha's Necklace, 1967 also in Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself

Our readers must think about this. People are unable to feel their own I while selfobserving; they are unable to pass it from one center to another, etc. In order to awaken consciousness, we must observe the way we speak, laugh, walk, etc., without forgetting ourselves, and while feeling the I inside: this is a difficult but fundamental step. The great master Ouspensky said, “When I made the effort to be conscious of my Being; to be conscious of myself as ‘I’; to tell myself, ‘I am walking, I am doing’; to try to keep alive this feeling of “I” to feel it within: these efforts produced the first impression that thoughts remained asleep when I grasped the ‘I,’ that I could not think or speak, and that even the intensity of emotions diminished. Besides, I could stay in that state for only a very short time.”

Observing how we think, speak, laugh, walk, eat, feel, etc., without forgetting ourselves, without forgetting the intimate processes of the ego, always remembering what is occurring deep inside in the forty-nine subconscious levels of Yaldabaoth: this is frightful difficult, but fundamental, nevertheless, to the awakening of consciousness.

IVHe who does not let himself become fascinated

Conscious attention without identification protects a person in practical life. The man who forgets himself before an insulter falls asleep and may end in jail; the one who remembers himself turns difficult events into self-discovery and breaks the hypnotic hold of Kali.

A practice

We must know how to pay attention without identification. When we pay attention to something or someone, but forget ourselves, the result is fascination and the sleep of the consciousness.

Fundamental Education, 1970 also in Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself

A practice

Discipline does not teach students to consciously pay attention. Discipline is a true prison for the mind. Students must learn to handle conscious attention from the very school desk, so that later on, in practical life, outside of school, they do not commit the mistake of forgetting themselves. The man who forgets himself when faced with an insulter becomes identified with that person, he becomes fascinated and he falls into the sleep of the consciousness and hurts or kills that person and inevitably goes to jail.

Fundamental Education, 1970 also in Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself

He who does not let himself become fascinated with someone who insults him, he who does not become identified with that person, he who does not forget himself, he who knows how to pay conscious attention would be incapable of giving any value to the words of an insulter, or of hurting or killing him.

As one works on oneself, one understands more and more the need to radically eliminate from one’s inner nature everything that makes us so abominable. The worst circumstances of life, the most critical situations, the most difficult events are the most favorable for intimate self-discovery. If one, instead of losing one’s head, identifying, being fascinated with the things of life, were to remember himself, he would discover with astonishment, certain “I’s” of which he never had the slightest idea or suspicion.

Now, when one reflects on oneself, one withdraws into oneself. When you ask yourself: “Why shouldn’t I forget myself? Why should I do this exercise and not forget myself? Why? Who am I to forget myself?”, such a reflection implies a greater effort that makes Hydrogen-12 pass exactly to the capital center of the brain for the first shock of Consciousness, of awakened Consciousness. Because to do the exercise of “not forgetting oneself” is to be alert from instant to instant; that should be normal. But when one makes deeper self-reflections: “Why shouldn’t I forget myself? Why do I have to remember myself? Who am I to be remembering myself?”, in that personal self-effort to know who I am and why I have to not forget myself, in that tremendous effort to know who am I, to have consciousness of myself, in that instant of decision through one’s own effort, well it is clear, then Hydrogen-12 rises to a certain special center of the brain to produce the first shock of Consciousness.

VDividing their attention into three parts

The exercise of the three parts of attention, subject, object and place, is laid out step by step. Things are observed without identifying with them, places are looked at daily as if new, and an account follows of how the habit once carried over into the astral.

Whoever wants to awaken consciousness should begin by dividing their attention into three parts: subject, object, location.

I also remember a very interesting case that happened thirty to forty years ago. Suddenly, I saw myself in a room; a group of people were there, we were talking about esoteric matters, etc. However, as I am not used to forgetting myself, firstly; secondly, I love to observe in detail everything that surrounds me: the objects, things; thirdly, I do not remain in a place in an unconscious way without having observed it first in detail and having asked myself: Why am I in this place, what am I doing here? It is clear that, on that occasion, these three aspects of the division of the Consciousness entered into activity. First I said to myself: “Well, what am I doing here?” I did not forget myself, I looked at the place. “Why am I here?” I looked at the people. “These people, why are they around me? Why am I talking to them?” Everything seemed physical, material; those friends had coats. Anyway, nothing showed that we were in the astral world. The objects, frankly, were normal, but I had not forgotten myself. Upon seeing the place, I said to myself: “Why do I have to be here in this place? And why in this meeting if I don’t have an appointment with anyone? And why am I here in this room?” Looking at that, it was so physical, so material, that it seemed as though my interrogations, my questions were too much, as no detail showed that I was in the astral world. But, instinctively, I have always divided my attention in three parts: subject, object and place.

VINot forgetting ourselves is the key

Impressions that reach the mind untransformed keep a person asleep for a lifetime and turn into new I's. The remedy taught is to interpose the consciousness between impressions and mind by not forgetting one's own Being, so that an insult or bad news is digested instead of fascinating.

A practice

The most serious in life is to forget oneself. So, it is necessary to transform the impressions, and this is only possible by interposing one’s own Consciousness between the diverse vibrations of the exterior world and the mind, one’s own Consciousness. When one interposes between the impressions and the mind that which is called Consciousness, it is obvious that the impressions transform into forces and powers of a superior order.

The Fifth Gospel The Word and the Sacerdotal Magisterium also in Identification, The Remembrance of Oneself, The Transformation of Impressions

A practice

So, we must transform impressions by means of the Consciousness. It is very easy to interpose the Consciousness between the mind and the impressions, between the impressions and the mind. To receive the impressions with the Consciousness and not with the mind, we only need to not forget ourselves at any given instance. If someone, at any moment, is hurting us with the word, we must not forget our own Being, we must not allow the mind to react, we must not allow the Myself to intervene: self-love, pride, vanity, etc.

The Fifth Gospel The Word and the Sacerdotal Magisterium also in Identification, Pride, Slander, The Mind, The Remembrance of Oneself, The Transformation of Impressions, Vanity

Usually, people, when facing life, do not receive the experiences directly in the Consciousness, no; they have a series of terrible preconceptions, prejudices in the mind. Any challenge is immediately shielded by some prejudices or preconceptions. Everything that happens in life does not reach the Consciousness directly, but rather all that multiplicity of prejudices that we have within, all that diversity of mistaken and contradictory feelings, but never the Consciousness and, as a consequence, we remain asleep our entire life.

Master: Well, certainly, it is not the brain that transforms impressions. The brain does not have the power to transform impressions, it leaves them untransformed, and that is why they become “I’s”, psychic aggregates. That is the reason why we must not identify with any comedy, drama or tragedy of life, because, however serious it may be, it passes. There is a vulgar saying that goes like this: “There is no evil that lasts a hundred years, nor a body that can endure it.” So, everything is illusory, fleeting.

So, we have many persons living within our person. The most serious thing is that the Consciousness –the worthiest, the most decent thing that exists in us– is bottled up among all those inner persons that we carry. So then, in those circumstances, the Consciousness is asleep. It is indispensable to eliminate those “I’s” with the aim that the Essence, the Consciousness bottled up within them, is liberated, awakened. When one dissolves those “I’s”, one liberates Essence. This is how, little by little, the awakening is taking place.

The Fifth Gospel The Two Types of Metaphysical Crystallizations Thud Chamber – Mexico City – 1975 also in Awakening

Ordinary human beings –or better said, ordinary humanoids– cannot see the supra-sensitive worlds, they do not have the transcendental faculties that allow them to penetrate into the mysteries of life and death. This is simply because their Consciousness is asleep. The Consciousness is the Essence itself, and it is asleep because it is imprisoned within all the “I’s” that constitute our psychological errors. We need to dissolve those “I’s” for the Essence or the Consciousness to free itself. Only on the basis of profound comprehension and with the help of the Divine Mother Kundalini –the Igneous Serpent of our magic powers– can we destroy, annihilate all those “I’s” which constitute our Ego, our Myself. As these “I’s” are annihilated, the Essence gets unbottled, and when the Essence is totally liberated, then we awaken, we can see, hear, touch and feel the great realities of the superior worlds.

IXRise up in psychological rebellion against all those fascinations

Addressed to the young, these passages warn of the fascination of youth itself and of the Antichrist and its false modern science, before which every knee bends. The youth are asked to use the world's inventions without being fascinated by them, to stop identifying with their little roles, and to work on themselves at once.

When one is young, one feels so fascinated by his own youth that he even forgets about old age. When the young man is told about old age, he considers it as something very far away, “something –he says– not worth worrying about.” However, facts are facts: the years pass quickly, and when one least expects it, old age has arrived.

How this was made. All fifty-two books were extracted (73,105 paragraphs, 2,157,671 words) and swept on his words for it: fascination, the fascinated and the fascinating; the sleep of the consciousness; people, humanity and we asleep; collective hypnosis; believing oneself awake; dreaming while awake, and sleepwalkers; identification with sleep; the bewitched and the captivated; falling asleep and forgetting oneself. Hypnotism as a technique was turned away. The paragraphs next to the strongest ones were offered too. That returned 755 candidate paragraphs in 33 books. Every candidate was read twice, by independent readers working from a written brief. The two passes agreed on whether to print 93.1% of the time and on the class 88.2%, and a third reader, who saw neither verdict, settled the 52 they did not. The 44 paragraphs that open a sentence the readers had found running on were then read the same way, 6 of them by a third reader. 357 were judged printable and 265 are printed here. The rest are recorded with the reason each was set aside.

What was set aside. 151 stood next to a passage on fascination but were about something else, 63 belonged to a finished work, 47 were stories or ceremonies told for themselves, 22 were a false friend (sleep of the body, “fascinating” as praise, hypnotism as a technique), and 15 named fascination or sleep only in passing. 97 more were judged and not printed.

Some of it he spoke. 134 passages come from the two Fifth Gospel volumes, across 32 named lectures, each cited by the name of the lecture with the place and the year where the volumes record them.

What was corrected, silently. One word the scanner split in two is rejoined. No word of his is changed.

No sentence of his is cut in half. Each range was extended against the corpus until his sentence closed, a passage that turned out to be the second half of the one before it was absorbed into it, and 45 ranges run over more than one paragraph.

55 paragraphs were left out on purpose. Each restates, with nothing added, a passage printed here; the earlier or the fuller copy is kept.

237 passages also stand in a finished work, and every one is marked where it stands, most of them in Awakening and Identification. The editor ruled that this work prints in full and that shared passages print here too. An overlap is allowed wherever the teaching needs it. What is not allowed is an overlap a reader cannot see.

Checked five ways. Every reader’s note was proved to sit on the passage as it is actually printed. Every printed pair was compared as sequences. Every ragged edge was repaired or named. Every one of the 56 passages marked a practice was proved to carry its own instruction. And every passage was checked word for word against a fresh extraction of its book.
