To lie is the desire of falsifying the truth.
Endocrinology & Criminology, 1957
The lie to others and the lie to oneself, mythomania, the false word and what it costs, and the truth told whatever the cost, in his own words from all fifty-two books

Tap a part to go to it.
Every word here is his. Nothing has been paraphrased, joined or improved. Each passage was cut out of the book it belongs to by reference and carries that book and the paragraph it came from. Where he was speaking rather than writing, it also carries the name of the lecture, with the place and year where the volume records them, so anything on this page can be found again in the source.
He does not call the lie a bad habit. “The lie is certainly a false connection.” The energy of the Father stops reaching us, the way a current stops at a broken wire, and he names what breaks it: “negative emotions turn you into a liar”.
The first lie is told inward. “All people are liars unto themselves, everyone lies to himself.” The second part follows it into the ego, “every negative “I” deceives itself and betrays to that end; it lies.” Then into its most respectable disguise, the superior “I” the mind builds for itself.
Then the lie told about oneself. He calls it mythomania: the student who “overnight he declares himself to be Mahatma, a resurrected Master, Hierophant, etc.” Beside him stand the sincerely mistaken, who are not lying on purpose and fall all the same.
The last part is the cost, and the cure. “The karma of liars is a monstrosity” Against it he sets the Being, who “He never lies, always utters the truth no matter what the cost might be.”, and asks the same of us: “tell the truth and nothing but the truth.” The practice he returns to most is the plainest one. “We must be sincere with ourselves”

He treats the lie as a wiring fault: the energy of the Father stops reaching the mind. Whoever lies sins against the Father who is Truth, and he cannot go into Hod or Netzach until he learns to tell the truth.
To lie is the desire of falsifying the truth.
Endocrinology & Criminology, 1957
The lie is certainly a false connection. What is normal is that the energy of the Father, the life of the Ancient of Days, that is to say, of our profound inner Being, flows through our inner cosmic organization, until reaching the mind.
For the Few, 1980
But if we produce a false connection this energy can no longer flow. It is as if the flow of that energy had been interrupted. The electricity would not reach the source, the source that illuminates us. The lie is a false connection.
For the Few, 1980
What is most serious is that negative emotions turn a human being into a liar. The lie produces a wrong connection, because the energy of the Ancient of Days, which flows harmoniously and perfectly through the ten sephiroth of the Hebrew Kabbalah to Malkuth –the kingdom, the physical person, psycho-physical–, connects wrongly in a liar. This produces an intentional dislocation of his mind and, as a consequence, a lie arises, that is, a wrong connection.
The Fifth Gospel Secret Repercussions of the Rings of Alcyone
One can be a liar because of a negative emotion, which makes us slanderers and liars, or one can be a liar consciously and at will. In any case, it is a negative connection of the mind with the superior centers of the Being. It produces a dislocation of the mind from the superior centers of the Being.
The Fifth Gospel Secret Repercussions of the Rings of Alcyone
One sins against the Father when one lies. One sins against the Son when one feels hatred for someone. One sins against the Holy Spirit when one fornicates, that is to say, when we spill the semen. The Father is Truth. The Son is Love. The Holy Spirit is Sexual Fire.
The Perfect Matrimony, 1950 (ed. 1966) also in Lust and Chastity
He who lies sins against the Father who is Truth, and he who hates, sins against the Son who is Love, and he who fornicates sins against the Holy Spirit who is Chastity.
Tarot and Kabbalah, 1978 also in Hatred, Lust and Chastity, The Intimate Christ
First of all, the person who lies is sinning against the Father which is Truth, and against the Ninth Commandment (You shall not commit adultery). Second, the person who hates is sinning against the Son, who is love, and against the First Commandment of the Law of God, which says: “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (St. John 13: 35). “For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?” (St. Matthew 5: 46).
Dissolving the I, 1964
Whoever lies does not do the will of the Father. Whoever lets himself be carried away by negative emotions does not do the will of the Father.
The Fifth Gospel Secret Repercussions of the Rings of Alcyone
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

It is said that Michael is the ruler of such a sephiroth and it is obvious that he shines wonderfully in that region. How can we explore these regions if we are liars, if we are victims of negative emotions? Obviously, it is not possible.

How could we explore the regions of Netzach if we do not connect correctly with the superior centers of Being? In order to explore the region of Netzach one needs to have created a mental psychological body; otherwise, it is impossible.

Here the cause is named. A person carried away by a negative emotion lies without meaning to, and he gives the case of a woman so sure she had been defrauded that she slandered an innocent person.
Generally when one is full of negative emotions one turns into a liar. That is the reality of the facts.
For the Few, 1980
A person who allows himself to be carried away by negative emotions, becomes a liar, one hundred percent. I had previously spoke to you in my past lecture about the case of a gentleman, who currently –we could say– is on the verge of death. This good man had a stroke. The reason? Very clear, I repeat: someone mistakenly informed him that his sister was a victim of fraud. This information was later examined and proven to be false.
The Fifth Gospel Psychoemotional Metamorphosis of Man Third Chamber – Mexico City – July 27, 1977
His sister still continues to be convinced that she had been a victim of fraud. And it is obvious that she calumniated an innocent person. But she is sure that she was a victim. I personally investigated this case and I realized that she was deceiving herself. She is lying to herself, a victim of negative emotions, and in turn calumniating another person in an unconscious way.

So, I have said to you and I repeat: negative emotions turn you into a liar. Observe people as they lie, carried away by negatives emotions. They cast false judgments. And then, they repent, but it is too late, they have already cast them.
For the Few, 1980
Master: Well, unquestionably, negative emotions are very damaging. Whoever is a victim of negative emotions becomes a liar, a criminal, a slanderer and a pervert. Let us suppose that someone says to a man that his wife has sexual relations with another man. So he gets carried away by a negative emotion, and he can even go and kill the woman and kill the other gentleman. Let us say that the news was false and that the poor woman was only friends with that man; perhaps she had talked with him, and she never thought of being lovers and having a love affair with him nor of being unfaithful to her husband. So the husband, in addition to being a murderer, is a slanderer and a pervert.

But that is not all. We need to eliminate, finally, the psychic aggregates of the inferior emotional center. Whoever wants to dissolve the ‘I’ has to begin by knowing his inner contradictions; unfortunately, people like deceiving themselves in order to not see their own contradictions.

The Revolution of the Dialectic
We ourselves realize our contradictions, but we patch them up by trying to make mental jug-gles with the aim of self-deceiving.
The Fifth Gospel The Precariousness of the Human Psyche lst International Meeting of Hermetic Culture – Guadalajara. Jalisco, Mexico – October 28. 1975
That is why we prefer to deceive ourselves and to come up with very lucid phrases such as “Well, well, well, I already reflected on it; well, I already thought that it’s better not this way, it’s better to do it the other way”, etc. This is how we self-deceive. “Yes, the thing is that I am very reflective”, “yes, it’s just that by analyzing things I think it’s better this way and not that way, as I had originally thought.” What a silly little way of self-deceiving, right?
The Fifth Gospel The Precariousness of the Human Psyche lst International Meeting of Hermetic Culture – Guadalajara. Jalisco, Mexico – October 28. 1975
We know that we are full of contradictions, we do not ignore it; but we always do a lot of juggling, or balancing, looking for readjustments, and with justifications, “we look the other way – as they say-”; we self-deceive ourselves, deep down, with the evident purpose of running away from ourselves, of not wanting to see the crude realism of our contradictions; in no way would we like to know that we are half crazy.
The Fifth Gospel Beyond the Mind Third Chamber – Mexico City – 1974
If a man feels honest, feels incapable of lying, suddenly it happens that he is offended by being called a liar. Obviously, if he has accepted that on the side of his psychological moon, on that side that is not seen, in the hidden side of himself, the lying still exists in an unconscious way, he will not feel offended when he is called a liar, he will know how to be tolerant with his fellow man.
The Fifth Gospel The Hidden Facets of our Lunar Psychology Third Chamber – Mexico City – 1976
When the multiplicity of our errors is accepted as something factual, yet one discards the necessity of study and direct observation of the errors, it is an evasion or escape, an escape from oneself, a form of self-deceit.
Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology, 1975
We cannot take seriously what any particular “I” affirms at any given moment because of the concrete fact that any other “I” can affirm exactly the opposite at any other moment. What is critical of all this subject matter is that many people believe that they possess a sense of moral responsibility; yet, they deceive themselves when affirming that they are always the same.
Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology, 1975
Nonetheless, we must not forget that whosoever believes himself to be “one” will deceive himself, thinking that he does know that which he must eliminate. Yet, indeed, he does not even know that he does not know; he is a learned ignoramus.
Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology, 1975
People covet virtues, without understanding that any kind of covetousness strengthens the pluralized I, and many are those who deceive themselves when they covet not being covetous. Many are those who covet the virtue of gentleness. Those poor people do not want to understand that only by comprehending all the processes of anger in all areas of the subconscious can the virtue of gentleness be born within us.

There are even very judicious brothers, missionaries, who speak very well about Gnosis, who handle the body of the doctrine in an extraordinary way, but I have been observing them, and they act as when they were not Gnostics, they act as they were acting thirty years ago. It is necessary to change our way of thinking. For new wine, a new wineskin is needed. Therefore, we need to completely change our way of thinking in order to receive this teaching. That is the serious point of the matter. Because if we receive this teaching and add it to the way of thinking that we had before, we are not doing anything, we are deceiving ourselves. The ego is many liars, and each of them deceives the man who carries it, even about his own enthusiasm for the Work. The deception ends, he says, where that “I” is caught in action.
We must never forget that every negative “I” deceives itself and betrays to that end; it lies.
Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology, 1975
Each time that one feels a sudden loss of strength, when the aspirant becomes disillusioned about Gnosis, about the esoteric work, when one loses the enthusiasm and abandons what is best, it is obvious that one has been deceived by some negative “I.” The negative “I” of jealousy deceives those beings who adore each other and destroys their happiness.
Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology, 1975 also in Jealousy
The negative “I” of mystical pride deceives the devotees of the Path. Thus, believing themselves to be wise, they despise their Master and betray Him... The negative “I” appeals to our personal experiences, our memories, our best wishes, our sincerity. One part of the myself can hide another part of the myself Is this something unusual? Does perhaps the cat not hide his claws? This is the fallacy of the ego. We all carry the Pharisee within us; we are very beautiful from the outside, but we are very rotten within. We have known Pharisees who are horrifying. We knew one who wore the immaculate robe of the Master, his hair was long and a razor never shaved his venerable beard. This man frightened the entire world with his sanctity, he was one hundred percent vegetarian, he drank nothing that could have alcohol, people knelt before him.
The Revolution of the Dialectic
Fraud has many colors of a psychological type. Many brides feel themselves deceived, husbands betrayed, fathers and mothers abandoned or morally wounded by their children, the employee feels unjustly fired from his job, the child feels he did not receive the promised gift, the esoteric group feels abandoned by its guide, etc., etc., etc. The ‘I’ likes to deceive, to pervert, to corrupt, to infect everything it touches.
Parsifal Unveiled, 1970

The subtlest deceit wears spiritual clothes: a so-called superior “I”, or a feeling of the ego taken for the voice of the Being. He admits he was fooled this way himself.
The sinister, ma levolent and tenebrous ‘I’ — be it superior, middle, or inferior — is an addition, subtraction and continuous multiplication of inhuman psychic aggregates. The so-called superior I is certainly a trick of the self, an intellectual ruse of the ego, who seeks getaways to continue its existence; it is a subtle way of self-deception.
The Secret Doctrine of Anahuac, 1974
The pluralized I is the worst enemy of inner self-realization. The most serious problem it presents is subtle self-deception. Whoever abandons the Path of the Razor’s Edge firmly believes that he has left error and found the true path.
The Buddha's Necklace, 1967
When the “I” wants to continue here and in the afterlife, it deceives itself with the false concept of a divine and immortal “I”. None of us has a permanent “I” and we do not even have legitimate individuality. If we consider that each “I” is a different person, we can emphatically ensure the following: within each person who lives in this world, there are many persons. Each of these persons strives for supremacy, wants to be exclusive and thinks it is the one and only, although it is only a small part. We can never know ourselves without self-observation. As long as an individual continues to consider himself as one, it is clear that any inner change is more than impossible.
The Fifth Gospel The Balance of the Energetic Centers Conference given to Gnostic students

May none of us think he is perfect, because perfect, only the Father who is in the Heavens is perfect; we all, starting with me –who is the one delivering this conference here before you–, must consider ourselves imperfect. It is lamentable that in the Gnostic Movement there are still personalities who think they are perfect; it is lamentable that in our Gnostic Movement there are still mythomaniacs, people who feel sublime and hierarchical. I, as founding president of this great Movement, would never feel perfect, because I am perfectly convinced that only he, the Lord, the Father, is perfect. But in the Gnostic Movement, one sometimes sees astonishing incon-gruities: people full of error who think they are wise, people who feel very holy when their hands are full of coal; people who feel very elevated hierarchically, transformed into Hierophants when, in reality and in truth, they have not even started to tread the revolutionary vertical path.

Plenty of those who are wrong are not lying on purpose. They were deceived by their own minds or by a teacher, and he shows how the tenebrous ones go about it and how to stay awake to them.
This then is the classical reason for which many Asiatic GURUS forewarn all possible forms of SELF-DECEIT, before initiating their disciples in Transcendental Magic. A monk visited T'ai-Shan, who shut the door in his face. The monk knocked on the door and T'ai-Shan asked: "Who is it?" The monk answered, "The Lion's Cub." Then T'aiShan opened the door and jumped onto the monk's neck whilst shouting "Animal! Where will you go now?" The monk did not reply.
The Mystery of the Golden Blossom, 1971
Such a monk was in fact a man whose consciousness was asleep, was sincerely mistaken, a Mythomaniac.
The Mystery of the Golden Blossom, 1971
The intellect is the powerful weapon that the Lucifers use to prevent their victims from escaping from the abyss. The abyss is full of sincerely mistaken beings. The abyss is full of people of very good intentions. Many tenebrous ones of the abyss are sincerely mistaken.
The Greater Mysteries, 1956
These schools of black magic are everywhere. We remember the dissident sect of the Maya. Their adepts were expelled from the White Maya Lodge. They are black magicians. This school was established between Yucatan and Guatemala. Presently, this school of Mayan black magic has active agents in Mexico and Guatemala. But, who would dare to doubt these tenebrous people, who say they are Mayan princes and great priests? These people still speak with much rever ence about Teoti, Supreme God, creator and maintainer of the world. They become ecstatic remembering Bacabs, the Mayan trinity and Camaxtli, punisher of the evil etc. Under these circumstances it is very difficult to detect such tenebrous people. When the devotee entrusts himself to them, they then take him to their temples where they initiate him. Clearly the devotee, in the most naive way be comes a black magician. A devotee in these circumstances would never accept that he was classified as a black magician. The abyss is full of sincerely mistaken people and people of very good intentions.
The Perfect Matrimony, 1950 (ed. 1966)
Multitudes of schools of Black Magic exist; many of these with most venerable traditions, which teach Sexual Magic with the spillage of semen. They have most beautiful theories which attract and captivate, and if the student falls for this seductive and delightful deception, he becomes a Black Magician. These black schools affirm to the four winds that they are white, and it is for this reason that the ingenuous fall victim. These schools also speak beautifully of love, charity, wisdom etc, etc. Naturally in such circumstances, the naive disciple comes to firmly believe that there is nothing bad or perverse about such institutions. Remember good disciple, that the abyss is filled with those who are sincerely mistaken, and of people with very good intentions.
Tarot and Kabbalah, 1978
It becomes obvious to comprehend that we are not talking against the legitimate clairvoyants. We are only referring to the hallucinating ones, to those sincerely mistaken ones who dream that they are awakened.
Runic Magic, 1969 also in Awakening, Clairvoyance
Truly, I believe that the sincerely mistaken one, the sleepy one who dreams of being awake, the Mythomaniac who believes himself to be a super-transcended one, the hallucinated one who qualifies himself as being an Illuminated one, is used to doing very much harm to himself and to humanity. He does more harm than that inflicted by the one who never in his life has entered into our studies.
Runic Magic, 1969 also in Awakening, Clairvoyance
We cannot deny the conclusive and definitive fact that there are millions of sincerely mistaken people, who very honestly presume to be virtuous and think the best of themselves.
Yes, There Is a Hell, a Devil and Karma, 1973
The grave thing about this, distinguished friends, noble brothers, esteemed ladies, is that those who are lost, the sincerely mistaken, always think that they are on the right track. How can one make people comprehend that they are on the wrong path?
Yes, There Is a Hell, a Devil and Karma, 1973
Many sincerely mistaken ones who truly want to self-realize exist in the most venerable schools of esoteric wisdom and of occultism; yet, they are not dedicated to the Numerous are these people who assume that through good intentions it is possible to attain sanctity. Obviously, as long as one does not work intensely on those “I" that we carry within our interior, they will continue to exist beneath the depth of our godly appearance and our upright conduct.
Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology, 1975
1. “For the idols have spoken vanity, and the Diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.” (Zechariah: 10:2) 2. We must make a differentiation between Diviners and Prophets.
Igneous Rose, 1954
He continued further in this discourse and said: “The third order is called Triple-faced Hekate, and there are under her authority and seven-and-twenty [arch] demons, and it is they which enter into men and seduce them to perjuries and lies and to covet that which doth not belong to them.

57. Thus, evilness revests itself with subtle deceitfulness. Therefore, the disciple must open his eyes very well and be alert and vigilant as the Watchman in the time of war. 58. There are Adepts of the darkness who disguise themselves as Mahatmas and present themselves before us in the internal worlds. This is in order to tell us that we have fallen and have failed in our longing for the light and that we have lost the degrees that we had acquired, etc., etc.

Initiatic preparation is very rigorous. Disciples should live alert and vigilant like the sentry during wartime. Cleanse your minds; do not let yourself be deceived by the iniquitous ones.

Do not be confused by the false words of the tenebrous. Remember that the spiritualist mediums usually serve as a vehicle for black entities. They introduce themselves presuming sanctity, and counsel against the Path of the Perfect Matrimony. Usually, they affirm that they are Jesus Christ or Buddha, etc., to deceive the ingenuous. Be careful of the temptations that lie in wait for you. Be prudent and vigilant.
The Perfect Matrimony, 1950 (ed. 1966)
Esoteric discipline is really terrible. There are fanatics who commit the most horrible crimes with the mind. If they suspect ill of someone, they cynically attribute it to the Inner-Self. They slander people and then say, “The Inner-Self tells me everything.” They feel anger and then exclaim, “I do not have anger! What I feel are intuitive impulses of the Inner-Self.” They attribute to their Inner God every evil idea, every evil thought. Those people confuse intuition with malice, the voice of the silence with the voice of Satan. We say that the voice of the silence never says atrocities. It is perfect. The voice of Satan only says perversities. In the abyss, the black magicians take up the figure of our friends , and say and do horrible things before the initiate. If the initiate lets himself be deceived by these tenebrous beings, he then becomes a slanderer of others. Slander is worse than stealing.
The Greater Mysteries, 1956 also in Anger, Imagination, Inspiration, Intuition
Initiates who in remote ages were demons of the abyss are now marvelous; they no longer let themselves be deceived by the tenebrous ones; they know the demons very well. Those types of initiates cannot be deceived by any tenebrous one; they know what the abyss is. They are profound experts in that area. They know very well the Tree of the Science of Good and Evil. Initiates who did not know the abyss in ancient times, are now naive victims of the tenebrous ones. Those types of initiates are easily deceived by the tenebrous ones. Those initiates become slanderers of their fellowmen. Those initiates vociferate against others and they fall into the abyss. In order to be Gods, we have to know completely the Tree of the Science of Good and Evil.

Pistis Sophia Unveiled, 1983
<< And they took Jesus to the house of the high priest Caiaphas (the Demon of the Ill Will) where the chief priests (the official authorities of this world), the elders (the very respectable people who have much experience) and the scribes (the intellectuals) were assembled. Now the chief priests and the whole council sought testimony against Jesus (the internal Saviour) to put him to death; but they found none. For many bore false witness against him, and their witness did not agree. And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, "We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple that is made with hands (referring to the animal body), and in three days I will build another, not made with hands (the spiritual body, the To Soma Heliakon).' '' Yet not even so did their testimony agree.

What the lie costs. He says it plainly and more than once: liars are born into deformed bodies, and scripture leaves all liars outside the gate.
The karma of liars is a monstrosity: children born with two heads, deformed. When one connects wrongly with the superior centers of the Being, the consequence: one comes into existence with a deformed body. Behold the lie. We must pay close attention to this matter.
The Fifth Gospel Secret Repercussions of the Rings of Alcyone also in The Law of Karma
Have you ever seen the birth of a monstrous child? That is the Karma of the false word pronounced in previous lifetimes. We admire very much the substance of sincerity. A liar could never arrive at our white island.
Zodiacal Course, 1951 also in The Law of Karma
Liars can be born with a deformed vital body, resulting in a monstrous or sickly physical vehicle.
Yes, There Is a Hell, a Devil and Karma, 1973
When abandoning the physical body because of its death, the soul takes all of its conscious values. Then, when reincarnating into a new physical body, the soul brings all of its conscious values. They could be good as well as evil. These values are positive and negative energies. Every common and current human being has a culture of larvae in his astral atmosphere. These are of such strange forms that are too odd to conceive mentally. Positive values bring health and joy. Negative values materialize themselves into sicknesses and bitterness. Variola is the result of hatred. Cancer is the result of fornication. Lies disfigure the human figure, thus engendering monstrous children.
Occult Medicine and Practical Magic, 1955 (ed. 1978)
“But the fearful (the tenebrous, cowards, unbelievers), and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burn eth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
The Aquarian Message, 1960
“For without are dogs, (the false prophets , those who are founders of evil schools in order to exploit the souls, the fornicators etc will be out) and sorcerers, and who remongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. “I, Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches.” And Jesus, the one who received the Venustic Initiation exclaims the following: “I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star”.
The Aquarian Message, 1960
“Say unto them: Renounce false witness, that ye may be worthy of the mysteries of the Light and that ye may escape and be saved from the fire-rivers of the dog-faced [ones] “Say unto them: Renounce pride and haughtiness, that ye may be worthy of the mysteries of the Light and be saved from the fire-pits of Ariel.

What is born where the lie was. The Being never lies, and the desire to lie can be turned into words of truth; he asks for it in the home and in trade as well.
The Ego pleases itself with falsehood, deception, falsity, hypocrisy, vanity, error, fiction, with pretending, etc. Yet, the Being is different; He never lies, always utters the truth no matter what the cost might be.

And, finally, whoever wants to crystallize the First Force, which is the “Holy Affirmation”, will have to learn to tell the truth; will have to learn to obey the most elevated parts of his own Being. It is worth clarifying to you that in our depths live the most elevated parts of the Being, which are completely divine. Whoever learns to obey the most elevated parts of the Being will undoubtedly achieve, sooner or later, the crystallization of the First Force within himself, the “Holy Affirmation”. If someone manages to crystallize within himself –thanks to the three brains– the Three Main Forces of nature and of the cosmos, unquestionably, he will truly become a superman, in the most complete sense of the word.

We should teach our children to tell the Truth and nothing but the Truth. We should teach our children the law of Love. Love is Law, but conscious Love. At the age of fourteen we should teach our children the Mysteries of Sex. And so, upon this triple aspect of Sanctity and Perfection our children will grow spiritually. Whoever guides their children with this triple aspect of perfection will have established a steel foundation for their happiness. Nevertheless it is necessary to teach them not only with precept but also by example. What we preach, we should demonstrate with facts.

Mental power achieves prodigies and marvels when it is based on sincerity and the truth. Do not attempt to deceive your fellowmen; do not use mental concentration to deceive your fellowmen because failure for you will be inevitable. Mental power achieves prodigies when used to help others. By helping others we ourselves benefit. That is the Law.

Every merchant has the right to obtain money, but whatever you sell should be good, useful and necessary to others. Do not try to deceive others because you deceive yourself. Multitudes of peddlers travel the streets offering their merchandise uselessly; no one is interested in their merchandise and people become annoyed when they meet these peddlers. The error of these peddlers is that they only think and talk about their wares. If they learned how to see another’s point of view, they would inevitably succeed.

The practice is sincerity with oneself, and he comes back to it in book after book, often with a hand on the heart and a question asked honestly. Only sincere self-observation, he says, puts an end to self-deception.
People have lost notion of sincerity. Nowadays, human words do not carry the substance of sincerity and people suffer due to the lack of sincerity. Today, human words are full of falsehood and hypocrisy.
Zodiacal Course, 1951
Sincerity is what we need, to not miserably deceive each other anymore. Unfortunately, there is a huge lack of sincerity in the world. Everyone believes they are perfect, everyone believes they are righteous, everyone believes they are holy, everyone believes they are wise. In the different schools of a pseudo-esoteric and pseudo-occultist type, there is no one who thinks he is ignorant; everyone believes they have already “grabbed hold of God by the beard”. They ignore, and the worst of all is that not only do they ignore, but moreover they ignore that they ignore. That is what is most serious!

Answer, be sincere with yourselves, place your hand over your heart, ask your Divine Mother Kundalini for advice, and answer with sincerity. Have you Self-realized yourself? Will your theories or doctrines convert you into angels? What have you gained? What have you obtained from the many theories and doctrines? Never in the history of the centuries has anyone been known to have christified himself without the Perfect Matrimony, without the seminal transmutation, and without the help of the Divine Mother Kundalini. We have to be sincere with ourselves and ask ourselves what we want, if we have come to the Gnostic teaching out of mere curiosity If in reality what we desire is not to pass through decapitation, then we are fooling ourselves; we are defending our own filthiness; we are proceeding hypocritically.

We should be sincere with our own selves and dissect the ‘I’ with the tremendous scalpel of “self-criticism “. It is absurd to criticize the errors of others; what is fundamental is to discover our own errors and then disintegrate them on the basis of analysis and profound comprehension.

In that state, one will work in the process of the comprehension of the ‘I’ or defect that one wants to disintegrate. Society is the extension of the individual. If the individual is covetous, cruel, pitiless, egotistical, etc., so will society be. Disciple: Master, how can one know that he is not self-deceiving? Master: Well, the forms of self-deception exist as long as the Ego exists. That we have to eliminate the forms of self-deception, is a fact. But it is not possible to eliminate them if one does not self-explore, if one does not self-observe. Only by means of sincere and real psychological self-observation, can one, in fact, avoid all forms of self-deception.

The sense of the psychological self-observation goes on developing little-by-little, as it is being used. An organ that is not used, atrophies; if we do not use that organ, it will continue to atrophy. But if we use it, there will come a moment in which we will be able to see by ourselves our own psychic aggregates in a direct way. No longer by intellectual association alone, but also by direct perception of the real. When that happens, any possibility of self-deception will be, in fact, discarded. Any other question?

It is worth being honest with ourselves. It is simply about knowing ourselves, if we truly want to manifest the Being that we carry within ourselves. If we truly aspire that someday the reality and nothing but the reality remains in us, without any atom of fantasy, we need to be sincere and have the courage to break ourselves apart, to break this fantasy-I, this fantasy-person that does not exist, that the others know that it does not exist, but that one believes that it does exist.

But, obviously, in order to practice this retrospective exercise with certain lucidity, one has to have eliminated first many “I’s”. In no way could I believe that the fundamental psychological trait could be discovered if one has not intelligently used the retrospective system. But to truly use it lucidly, we also need to be sincere. When the Consciousness is too trapped within the “I’s”, there is no lucidity. Then, the retrospective exercise in those conditions turns out to be incipient, if not fantastic or wrong. That is, then, my concept. Let us see, brother, you speak.

How this was made. All fifty-two books were extracted — 73,105 paragraphs, 2,157,671 words — and swept for every form of the lie: lie, liar, mythomania, falsehood, deceit and deception, falsify, false witness and the false word; and for the phrases he uses when he teaches it without naming it: to deceive or lie to oneself, the false connection, the sincerely mistaken, and on the other side, to tell the truth and to be sincere with oneself. The bare word lie stands in 423 paragraphs, and 320 of them are the verb of place — lie down, therein lies — which were set aside before anything was read. That returned 492 candidate paragraphs in 41 books. Every one was read twice, by independent readers working from a written brief; they agreed on whether to print 95.9% of the time and on the class 89.4%, and a third reader, who saw neither verdict, settled the 20 they did not. 152 were judged printable and 144 are printed here; the rest are recorded with the reason each was set aside.
What was set aside. 158 paragraphs where the lie is named in passing and the subject is elsewhere; 19 more of the verb of place; 18 that belong to a finished work; 17 of the Apocalypse’s deceiver told as prophecy; 12 of narrative; 11 where deception is the Spanish decepción, a disappointment; and a handful held for Pride, and for Hypocrisy and Slander, which are works of their own. Seventy more were judged marginal.
Much of it is spoken, not written. 32 of these passages come from the two Fifth Gospel volumes, across 14 named lectures, among them the two lectures in which he says that a man carried away by a negative emotion becomes a liar.
Nothing of his is changed. No mend was needed. 6 paragraphs were set aside at the last because a fuller printing of the same words stands in the same section, and two were taken into the passage before them, of which they are the second half.
No sentence of his is cut in half. Each range was extended against the corpus until his sentence closed; 27 ranges run over more than one paragraph.
52 passages also stand in a finished work, and every one is marked where it stands; the most are in Clairvoyance, where the mythomaniac appears beside the hallucinated seer. This booklet reprints them so that the whole teaching stands in one place.
Checked five ways. Every reader’s note was proved to sit on the passage as printed. Every printed pair was compared as sequences. Every ragged edge was repaired or named. Every one of the 35 passages marked a practice was proved to carry its own instruction. And every passage was checked word for word against a fresh extraction of its book.
