Every word here is his. Nothing has been paraphrased or improved. Each passage was cut out of the book it belongs to by reference, and each carries that book and the paragraph it came from, so anything on this page can be found again in the source. Many of these passages also stand in other works of the shelf, chiefly Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted, and are gathered here for the one subject.

The first part is who she is: the third aspect of the Prakriti, Mother Space become Mother Death: “The third aspect of Prakriti is the blessed Goddess Mother-Death, terror of Love and Law.” “Mother Space transformed into Mother Death dearly loves her children, and for this reason she takes them.”

The second part is her names in this aspect, Kali, Hekate, Proserpine and Coatlicue: “…love and death are intimately linked.” “The Aztec goddess of death has a crown with nine human skulls.”

The third part is the Angels of Death, who work under her: “The Angels of Death are in themselves perfect men.” “The Angels of Death work according to Laws, with supreme wisdom and great love and charity.”

The fourth part is her rule below, the descent to her, and her work on the ego that has been comprehended: “The Initiation is death and birth at the same time.” “Proserpine only eliminates the ‘I’s which personify the defects that we have comprehended in an integral manner.”

IThe Prakriti as Queen of the Infernos and Death

The Prakriti is one in the Cosmic Night and unfolds into three modes in the Cosmic Day, the third being Queen of the Infernos and Death. The Aztecs, Egyptians and Greeks gave this third aspect the names Coatlicue, Proserpine and Hekate, and a salutation addresses her by all three.

The Prakriti is One, Unique, Indivisible and Integral during the Pralaya (Cosmic Night). Yet, during the Mahamanvantara (Cosmic Day) as a consequence of the activity of the First, Second and Third Logos, the Prakriti expands and builds up from herself in Three Aspects.

The Solar Bodies, 1968 also in The Eternal Mother Space

The three modes of the Prakriti are: First, the Unmanifested Prakriti; Second the Prakriti in Nature; Third, the Prakriti as Queen of the Infernos and Death.

The Solar Bodies, 1968 also in The Eternal Mother Space

The Unmanifested Prakriti has no symbol amongst the Aztecs. The Manifested Prakriti (Nature) has the Aztec symbol of Tonatzin, the Adorable Mother. The Greeks symbolized this second aspect of the Cosmic Mother as the Chaste Diana.

The Solar Bodies, 1968 also in The Eternal Mother Space, Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

Among the Aztecs, the third Aspect of the Divine Mother is the Terrible Coatlicue; among the Egyptians she is Proserpine and among the Greeks she is the tremendous Hekate, Lady of Enchantments and Death.

She... the Unmanifested, has no symbolism among the Greeks, but in her second manifested aspect within Nature, She is the greatly adored and worshipped chaste Diana. The third aspect of Prakriti is the blessed Goddess Mother-Death, terror of Love and Law. She is the terrible Hekate, Proserpine, Queen of the Infernos.

IIMother Space transformed into Mother Death

Mother Death is presented as the Mother herself, who takes her children because she loves them and without whose consent no Angel of Death breaks the silver cord. Her nine skulls stand for initiation and her four hands for receiving and giving, and the disciple is told to fall into her arms instead of fearing annihilation.

The blessed Goddess of Death is love and charity. The Aztecs represented her with a diadem of nine skulls. Nine is initiation.

The Greater Mysteries, 1956

The one who accomplishes Arcane 13 totally liberates himself; she receives and gives; that is why she is represented with four hands.

The Greater Mysteries, 1956

The dying usually sees the Angel of Death. They, when working, dress in funeral garb and take on a spectral, skeletal appearance, grasping the scythe with which they cut the Silver Cord. They assume this gloomy appearance only whilst working, apart from this they adopt very beautiful forms, at times of children, at times of ladies or of venerable elders. The Angels of Death are never evil or perverse; they always work in accordance with the Great Law. Each one has his hour to be born, and his exact moment to die. The Angels of Death are very wise. They develop and operate under the Ray of Saturn. They know not only all that which is related to the common place and normal death of the physical body; these ministers of death are, as well, profoundly wise in all that which is related with the Death of the pluralised “I”.

Tarot and Kabbalah, 1978 also in Return and Reincarnation, The Law of Destiny

Proserpina, the Queen of the Infernos, is also Hecate, the Blessed God dess Mother Death, under whose direction the Angels of Death work. Mother Space transformed into Mother Death dearly loves her children, and for this reason she takes them.

Tarot and Kabbalah, 1978 also in The Eternal Mother Space, Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

The Blessed Goddess Mother Death has the power to punish us when we violate the Law and authority to take our life. She is, indubitably, only one magnificent facet of our Mystic Dyad; a splendid form of our own Being. Without her consent no Angel of Death would dare to break the thread of life, the Silver Cord, the Antakarana.

Tarot and Kabbalah, 1978 also in The Law of Destiny, Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

All the intellectual homunculi, mistakenly called human beings, solely wish to liberate themselves from death. However, they do not know how to liberate themselves from life. Blessed be the ones who are dignified by the glacial beauty of the Blessed Goddess Mother Death.

My Return to Tibet, 1969

We ought to return to the original point of departure. We must go back to the primitive darkness of the Not-Being and Chaos, so that light can be born and a new creation can come forth in our interior. Instead of fearing total annihilation, we should learn how to love and fall into the arms of our Blessed Death-Mother Goddess.

IIIOpen the dead-end street, and I will kill them

In a Samadhi the Third Aspect of Prakriti appeared to him as Proserpine and foretold the end of this civilization. She offered a covenant and he accepted it; elsewhere he tells of embracing the terrible goddess Death as the Stone of Truth.

One summer night, I was in that state which is known in the eastern world as Nirvi-Kalpa or Samadhi; what happened to me during that meditation was very profound; it was something marvelous.

The Solar Bodies, 1968

Before me the Third Aspect of Prakriti took on the frightful and terribly divine shape of Proserpine or Hekate, and then she spoke to me in a language with apocalyptic signification.

IThe frightful goddess of desire and death

These pages give her Greek, Egyptian and Hindu faces. Hekate-Diana-Luna is one Mother in three, Proserpine rules in heaven, on earth and in the Avernus, and Kali is both the death aspect of Parvati and the goddess whose temple Krishna confronts.

The atomic seminal work is the Magisterium of Fire. In India, the Third Logos is Shiva. Symbols of Shiva are embedded in the Black Lingam Yoni. Shiva's wife is Parvati, the Goddess of beauty, love and happiness. The double aspect of Shiva as creator and destroyer immediately makes it clear that love and death are intimately linked. The double aspect of his wife Parvati is as Goddess of Love, and as Kali, Goddess of Evil's misfortune, sickness and death.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

One day, he heard about Kalayoni, the king of the serpents, the black magician, the keeper of Kali’ s temple (Coatlicue, Proserpine, Hekate), the frightful goddess of desire and death. He challenged the most feared of her serpents, that eternal serpent (the abominable kundartiguador organ) that had already devoured many hundreds of courageous warriors. Its drivel corroded bones and its stare invoked fright in all hearts. Krishna — at Kalayoni’s magical conjuration — saw a long and reptile come out, from within the temple of Kali, the great criminal (the queen of infernos and the dead). The serpent slowly straightened out its voluminous body, made its horrible red mane bristle, and its staring eyes glowed frightfully on its monstrous head of brilliant scales. “Either you adore her or you will perish,” said the magician.

IITonantzin is life; Coatlicue is death

Coatlicue stands as the shadow of Tonantzin: where the one is life and chastity, the other is death and the devourer of men. The Aztec monolith and the Mayan stela both show her, and she is named Mother Death, the serpent of the abyss and Cihuacoatl.

The Aztec goddess of death has a crown with nine human skulls. The crown is the symbol of the Ancient of Days. The skull is the microcosmic correspondence of the Ancient of Days in the human being. Indeed, we need a supreme death of the human personality; the human personality must die. We need a supreme resurrection in order to self-realize the Ancient of Days within ourselves.

Aztec Christic Magic, 1973

Nevertheless, the cranium at the navel of this deity is neither the final touch of its necklace nor the brooch of its belt, it is rather Coatlicue, the devourer of men, the Goddess of earth and death, whose body projects from between the thighs of the deity towards the front and from the lower abdomen until the feet.

Aztec Christic Magic, 1973

A “sentiment of maternity” emanates from this precious serpent which is the final touch to the whole combination of this monolith. Its double headed face is the emblem of the divine couple. The posterior part of its shoulders towards its feet, symbolize Tonantzin, the Mother of the Gods. Her chest with flaccid breasts adorned with the necklace of hands and hearts symbolizes Coatlicue, the shadow of Tonantzin.

IThe Angels of Death are in themselves perfect men

A chapter of The Book of the Dead sets out what the Angels of Death are. They work by Law, take life as the Angels of Life give it, wear the skeleton only as working clothes, and serve under an androgynous genie who keeps the dates of every death.

THE ANGELS OF DEATH Contemporary positivist philosophy is based on the existence of matter (materialism) and energy. There have been many arguments about force and matter, but these latter continue in spite of all speculations, x, y, unknown.

The Book of the Dead, 1965

The Angels of Death are in themselves perfect men. The loss of a loved one is very bitter and it might seem that the Angels of Death are too cruel, but in fact they are not, even though this may seem incredible.

The Book of the Dead, 1965

The Angels of Death work according to Laws, with supreme wisdom and great love and charity. We can only understand this clearly when we identify ourselves with them in the Molecular World and in the Electronic World.

The Book of the Dead, 1965

The Angels of Life give a human being a vital body so that he may live. The Angels of Death take life from a human being.

The Book of the Dead, 1965 also in The Law of Destiny

This cord corresponds to the umbilical cord and it is sevenfold in its inner constitution. The Angels of Life connect the molecular body of the disincarnated person with the zoosperm, so that it acquires a new body. In fact, the Silver Cord is the thread of life which the Angels of Death break on the appropriate day and at the right time, in accordance with the Law of Destiny. This marvellous thread belongs to the superior dimensions of space and can only be seen with the spatial sense.

The Book of the Dead, 1965 also in Return and Reincarnation, The Law of Destiny

The dying often see the Angel of Death as a quite horrible skeletal figure. In fact, what happens is that he dresses in the clothes that suit his job. In practical life the policeman wears his uniform, the Doctor his white coat, the judge his gown, the priest his habit, etc. The funereal clothes and the skeletal figure of the Angels of Death horrify those who still have not awakened Consciousness. The funereal symbols of the Angels of Death are the sickle, that cuts down life, the skull of death, the long eared owl, etc. Outside their work the appearance of the Angels of Death is that of beautiful children, sublime maidens, venerable masters, etc. The Angels of Death are graded in the form of hierarchies. There are grades and levels among them.

The Book of the Dead, 1965

The Angels of Death have their temples in the Molecular World; they also have their grades, and their palaces and libraries. There in the immensity of the great ocean of life there exists a funereal palace where one of the imperial genies of death has its dwelling place; its face is that of an ineffable maiden and its body like that of a man. This MARVELLOUS being is totally androgynous.

The Book of the Dead, 1965 also in The Law of Destiny

This MARVELLOUS being is a DIVINE HERMAPHRODITE. Thousands of Angels of Death work under its direction. In its library there are thousands of molecular volumes where the Karmic names and dates of all those who must die are written, each with its own day and time according to the law of destiny. The science of death is terribly Divine.

IIShe governs all the Angels of death

Every Angel of Death, whatever its rank, answers to her. The Aztecs called her Mietlancihuatl, chief of these angels, and they work under Saturn, carry the book of names and cut the silver cord at the hour the Law sets.

In the fine arts building in Mexico, F.D., we find an Aztec sculpture of the Bat God. We are going to talk about it even if the tenebrous ones slander us and classify us as black magicians. This sculpture is a precious Aztec symbol of one of the principal hierarchs of death. The Angels of Death work under the influence of Saturn and disembody the souls according to the Law of Karma. Their symbols are the bat, the owl and the scythe. They take the soul out of the body and cut the silver cord that unites the soul to the body. During sleep, souls can travel anywhere and return to the body thanks to the silver cord. When the Angels of Death are working, they adopt a skeletal appearance; after their work, they assume a beautiful appearance; they are really Angels.

The Greater Mysteries, 1956 also in The Keys of Astral Travel, The Law of Destiny

The Bat God dwells in the center of Eden; he is an Angel of Death. In the same manner that he has the power to kill, he also has the power to heal.

The Greater Mysteries, 1956

The supper of Bethany corresponds to these processes in Jesus Christ. “Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, wherever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her”. (Matthew, 26: 6-13). The mysteries of death are grand. Jesus met the adorable Goddess of Death, after having returned from Jordan, in the solitude of the desert. The Goddess, Mother Death is known among the Aztecs by the name of Mietlancihuati; she is the supreme chief of the Angels of Death.

The Greater Mysteries, 1956

Now, we are going to study the Sephira Hod whose regent is Raphael. Let us see, we already studied the Arcane Thirteen, Death. Indeed, the Goddess of Death is an Adorable Mother. Jesus met her when he rose to Jordan in the solitude of the desert. She governs all the Angels of death. Let us reflect on the Arcane Twenty which represents the Resurrection. Let us study also the Arcane of Job, the famous Arcane Eight. This Arcane signifies, as a fact, ordeals and grieving. No one is worthy of receiving the Crown of Life without having passed through the ordeals of the Arcane Eight.

Aztec Christic Magic, 1973 also in Hod, The Words He Uses

Distinct degrees of splendor and hierarchy exist among the Angels of Death; however, all of them rely upon the supreme commands of the Third Aspect of Prakriti, Mother Space, the Blessed Goddess Mother Death, Hekate, Proserpine, Coatlicue, Kali, etc.

The Solar Bodies, 1968 also in Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

Despite their spectral, skeletal figure (with a scythe held in the right hand and dressed in funeral attire) these Ministers of Death have a terribly divine appearance indeed. According to the Law of Destiny, the Angels of Death cut the Thread of Life on a precise day and hour.

The Solar Bodies, 1968 also in Return and Reincarnation, The Law of Destiny

In the last moments of life, the dying person sees the Angel of Death as if he was a skull or a spectral being. The Angel of Death, or Angels of Death, are perfect beings whose mission is to take the souls out of their bodies in the supreme instant of death.

Occult Medicine and Practical Magic, 1955 (ed. 1978)

At the moment in which the dying exhales his last breath, an angel of death attends the deathbed; there are legions of them. The funerary angel cuts the silver cord or thread of life, which connects the soul with the physical body. The dying often sees such an angel in a spectral form, and the scythe that he appears with is certainly real; this tool serves precisely so that this Deity may cut the thread of existence.

Beyond Death also in The Law of Destiny

Beloved disciples: I shall speak to you of the problem of death. Death is our crown. After death, the soul enters the astral light. When the hour of death comes, the Angel of Death approaches the deathbed. There is a choir of Angels of Death. This choir is conducted by the planet Saturn. Each Angel of Death carries a book. In this book are the names of all the souls which must depart from the flesh. Nobody dies the day before. The Angel of Death only removes the soul from the body. The soul is linked to the body by a fine, heavenly cord of a silvery color. The Angel of Death breaks the cord so that the soul cannot re-enter the body. After death, souls see the sun just as they used to, the clouds, the stars as always, everything just as before. For a while, the souls of the dead do not believe that they have died. These souls see all the things of the world just as they did before; therefore they do not believe that they have died.

IThe doors of Pluto will be open to this one

Telemachus and Aeneas go down to the world of shadows by invoking Hekate and honouring Proserpine. She asks of every visitor the golden bough, which is the spinal medulla, and initiation appears as a descent that is death and birth at once.

Let us remember Telemachus descending into the world of shadows in order to inquire about the fate of Ulysses, his father. The young man walked under the light of the moon while invoking Prakriti, the powerful Deity who is Selene in heaven, as well as the Chaste Diana on the earth, and the formidable Hekate within the subterranean worlds.

We can work with Proserpine, the Queen of the Infernos eliminating I with the condition of first comprehending the defect that we want to extirpate (see Chapter Eight). Proserpine only eliminates the ‘I’s which personify the defects that we have comprehended in an integral manner.

However, there is a difference in all of this; in the submerged sphere of Mercury, the frightening Coatlicue or Proserpine, the tempting serpent of Eden, does not yet devour her children, only in the submerged eighth region does she have the frightful banquet Now we see why the Florentine Dante, saw in the eighth circle millions of human beings in pieces, bleeding, tearing themselves with their nails and with their teeth, decapitated, etc.

How this was made. All fifty-two books were extracted (73,105 paragraphs, 2,157,671 words) and swept on his names for her in this aspect: Mother Death and the Goddess of Death, Proserpine and Persephone, Hekate, Coatlicue, the Queen of the Infernos, and the Angels of Death; and, where they stood beside death, the terrible or the Mother, Kali and the Black Moon. Kali as a name in a list was turned away. The paragraph either side of each name was offered too. That returned 214 candidate paragraphs in 31 books, 141 of them by name. Every candidate was read twice, by independent readers working from a written brief. The two passes agreed on whether to print 96.3% of the time and on the class 93.5%, and a third reader, who saw neither verdict, settled the 8 they did not. 77 were judged printable, 5 of them were left out as restatements, and where his sentence ran across paragraphs the pieces were joined into one passage, 3 fewer in all, so 69 are printed here. The rest are recorded with the reason each was set aside.

What was set aside. 8 belonged to another work of the shelf already built (death and the beyond, the infernos as a region, the Mother’s work on the ego in general), 31 stood next to a passage on the subject but were about something else, 19 were myth, narrative or ceremony told for itself, 31 named her only in passing, and 20 were a false friend. 26 more were judged and not printed, among them the five aspects as a set, kept for the next work of this family.

No word of his is changed. No mend was needed and nothing was lifted out of a passage.

No sentence of his is cut in half. Each range was extended against the corpus until his sentence closed, and 17 ranges run over more than one paragraph.

Five paragraphs were left out on purpose. Each restates, with nothing added, a passage printed here, and in each case the fuller copy is kept.

44 passages also stand in a finished work, and every one is marked where it stands, most of them in Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted (26), then The Law of Destiny (9) and The Klipoth (5). Shared passages print here too. An overlap is allowed wherever the teaching needs it. What is not allowed is an overlap a reader cannot see.

Checked five ways. Every reader’s note was proved to sit on the passage as it is actually printed. Every printed pair was compared as sequences. Every ragged edge was repaired or named. Every one of the 2 passages marked a practice was proved to carry its own instruction. And every passage was checked word for word against a fresh extraction of its book.

A work of The Divine Mother, the third family of the shelf. Its first work is the Mother as each one’s own particular Mother, its second the Mother as Space and the Great Ocean, and this third the Mother in her aspect of death, who loves her children and takes them. It wears the family’s lilac mist ground and its outline with the gold hairline inside, in pomegranate.
