Every word here is his. Nothing has been paraphrased or improved. Each passage was cut out of the book it belongs to by reference, and each carries that book and the paragraph it came from, so anything on this page can be found again in the source. Most of it comes from the three books where he gave a whole lesson on the sign, the Zodiacal Course, the Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology and the Manual of Practical Magic; the rest are the paragraphs where he names Capricorn in other books. Many of these passages also stand in other works of the shelf, chiefly Return and Reincarnation, Zodiacal Course, The Mind and The Keys of Astral Travel. They are gathered here on purpose: the same teaching comes back in several of them because hearing it again is how it settles.

The first part is the sign: its dates, its table, its plants, and the door it opens: “Capricorn is the door of heaven, because it is the house of Saturn.”

The second is the authentic planetary order: Saturn, the ancient calendar, the day divided as a cross within a circle, and the planetary hours: “This constellation is the house of Saturn, the elder of Time.” “The disciple should choose the hours to work with the stars.”

The third is the Christ-mind: the mind freed from reasoning, the mind of intuition, and the Kundalini of the mental body: “We need a mind that only thinks with the heart.” “The new humanity will be the humanity of intuition.”

The fourth is Saturn and death: the Monads and the two Souls, what goes to the sepulchre, the Angels of Death, the three and a half days and the retrospective vision, the Kingdoms of the molecular world, and the Return: “The Angels of Death are very wise and they develop and unfold under the Ray of Saturn.” “The Return to a new womb is carried out in accordance with the Law of Karma.”

The fifth is the knees and the lead of Saturn: the currents that rise from the earth, the synovia and the egg: “Saturn is the planet of Death and becomes exalted in Capricorn.” “We are not talking about lead in its gross state, we are talking about lead in a subtle, colloidal state.”

The sixth is the Age of Capricorn, the age of the Holy Spirit, when the souls of the abyss return: “The last opportunity will be given to these personalities in the Age of Capricorn.”

The seventh is the natives, those born under the sign: “The natives of Capricorn are as melancholic as the willow.” “…their practical sense of life saves them and very soon they overcome the worst bitterness of life.”

The eighth part is the practice: the mantram FARAON with the eggshell, the exercise of the coffin as both lessons give it, the genii of the sign and its perfume: “During the sign of Capricorn, imagine a coffin on the ground.” “…having the firm intention for them to become charged with the lead of Saturn.”

This is the third of twelve, one for each sign, each released as the sun enters it.

Part Two — The following illustration presents the authentic planetary order

5 passages

IThis constellation is the house of Saturn, the elder of Time

The lesson begins with Saturn and the order of the planets by their distance. On that order rests the ancient calendar, which he says was falsified and must be restored.

PART TWO

four parts
Those old astrologers learnt from the Gods that the day is divided into four parts, like a cross within the perfect circle.

Today we have arrived at the constellation of Capricorn in this course.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

This constellation is the house of Saturn, the elder of Time. Saturn is the most faraway planet of the Earth’s solar system. The moon is the closest satellite to earth. Mercury follows and then, in order of distance, follows Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, in orderly intervals of distance.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

On this natural and cosmic basis is based the very ancient calendar of: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

from Zodiacal Course, 1951

The Roman Catholics adulterated this legitimate calendar, and based on this falsification, the modernist Astrology of Arithmetic has been erected. It is logical then, for modern Astrology, sustained on a false basis, to be a true failure.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

Now it is our responsibility to restore the authentic ancient Astrology, and for this, it is of necessary and essential urgency, to return once again to the legitimate Archaic Calendar. All the Astrological works of Max Heindel and of Alpherat, are based on a false calendar, they do not have a fundamental basis, and are mistaken.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

IIThe ancient sages considered the day as a cross within a perfect circle

He presents himself as the restorer of this wisdom. The planetary hours of the almanacs are false; the day is a cross in a circle, in four quarters ruled by the planets in their old order.

We, the Gnostics, are the restorers of the esoteric wisdom.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

I, Samael Aun Weor, am the Great Avatar of Aquarius. I am the initiator of the New Era. I am the messenger of the superior worlds of consciousness and I have come to bring the culture for the New Era. I have come to form a new race of gods, and I want thee to listen to me. “Ask and it shall be given thee”, “Knock and it shall be opened”. This is what the sacred Scriptures say.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

I have taught thee the unutterable mystery of the great arcane, and I want thee to learn to manipulate the spark of the stars to govern Nature.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

Listen to me properly: The planetary hours as they come in the astrological annuals and texts of Astrology in general, are false and absurd, because the calendar in fashion is false and absurd, and because no archaic people ever used the so “boastful” and curious hours of the modern astrologers.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

The ancient sages considered the day as a cross within a perfect circle. These old contemplators of the stars, with their scrutinizing eyes, penetrated profoundly in the mysteries of the stars and received the enlightenment of the planetary Gods. Those old astrologers learnt from the Gods that the day is divided into four parts, like a cross within the perfect circle.

In this manner, the twelve hours of the day are divided into four parts, each of them of three hours.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

This simple, fast and easy method lets us know exactly what planet is ruling space at a given moment. This was the system that the great ancient Astrologers knew, and they learnt it from the sidereal Gods.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

Here one does not need the famous calculations of the arithmetic astrologers. Here the only thing required is a little practice and good sense to know the sidereal time. This so simple and sublime system can be learnt by anyone, since here we do not have any need of so many complications, nor of so many “logarithms”, or of “tables of houses”, or of voluminous astrological “ephemeris”, or of that complicated “jargon” of the pseudo-wises of arithmetical astrology.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

5 passages

IVA new lineage of astrologers

He turns against the astrology of calculation. What matters now are the astrologers who can speak with the sidereal Gods.

A new lineage of astrologers, the enlightened of the “new era”, the paladins of Aquarius, has now been born. We no longer need the horoscopes of arithmetic, now we converse with the Gods to know the destinies of men.

Zodiacal Course, 1951 also in The Law of Destiny

Shake the dust of thy heads, old astrology professors, because the first bells of Aquarius have resounded, singing the Easter of resurrection.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

Leave us in peace, arithmetic astrologers; we are already tired of thy errors, burn all that jargon of logarithms, ephemeris, tables of houses, etc.!

Zodiacal Course, 1951

We are now only interested in the paladins of the new era, the enlightened astrologers who know how to talk with the sidereal Gods. We are already bored with so much theory, and we are going to the “grain”, to what is “effective”, to what is “real”. We do not want more blind astrologers, sustained by the crutches of numbers!

Zodiacal Course, 1951

We are now only interested in the clairvoyants of the stars, the priests of the sidereal temples, the sages of Aquarius.

Part Three — It is important to Christify the mind

8 passages

IWe need a mind that only thinks with the heart

Because Saturn gave man the mind, the lesson of Capricorn is a lesson on the mind. It must leave its cages and become the instrument of the heart: this is the Christ-mind.

PART THREE

Ere the gold flame can burn with steady light, the lamps must stand well guarded in a spot free from all wind.

The mind should free itself from all kinds of “schools”, religions, sects, beliefs, etc. All those “cages” are obstacles which render the mind incapable of thinking freely. There is a need to become free of the illusions of this world and become the fine and marvelous instrument of the Inner-Being.

What does the reason know? Reason is painful process of the mind, based on the illusion of external things.

IIIThe Kundalini of the mental body is the fourth degree of the power of fire

The mental body has its own medulla and its own fire, and the full Christification of the mind belongs to that fourth degree. He quotes H.P.B. on the fixed mind, and says why the mind is taught under Capricorn.

The total Christification of the mind is only achieved with the Kundalini of the “Mental Body”.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

The Kundalini of the mental body is the fourth degree of the power of fire.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

Through the Kundalini of the mental body we extract the “Christ-mind” from the animalsoul. We must expel all kinds of earthly thoughts from the mental temple. Master H.P.B. says the following in the “The Voice of the Silence”: “Thou have to reach the fixity of the mind in which no breeze, however strong, can waft an earthly thought within. Thus purified, the shrine must of all action, sound, or earthly light be void; even as the butterfly, overtaken by the frost, falls lifeless at the threshold so must all earthly thoughts fall dead before the fane”. “Behold it written:” Ere the gold flame can burn with steady light, the lamps must stand well guarded in a spot free from all wind.”

When the soul disembodies, following the “post-mortem” states, it reaches the ultraSaturnian sphere, submerges in the infinite and feels the sensation of having the entire infinite within it. This sensation continues until the soul feels bound to a new physical body which allows it to return once more to the painful school of life to continue its ascent through the spiral of life.

IIWe should distinguish between Monads and Souls

The chapter on Capricorn in the Hermetic Astrology begins with the Being and its two Souls. Only a fraction of the Human Soul, the Essence, lives in the lunar bodies.

The Being, the Inner-Self the Monad, has two Souls; the first is the Spiritual Soul, the second is the Human Soul. The former is Dante’s Beatrice, Beautiful Helen, the Shulamite of the wise Solomon, the ineffable adorable wife, the Buddhi of Theosophy. The Latter is the Human Soul, the Causal Principle, the Noble Husband, the Superior Manas of Theosophy.

Adam and Eve integrate within the Monad and its Kabbalistic value is 10, which reminds us of the IO, in other words, of the vowels iiiiiii ooooooo. The very sacred union of the Eternal Masculine with the Eternal Feminine, the integration of the opposites within the Essential and Divine Monad.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Law of Opposites

The Divine Triad, Atman-Buddhi-Manas, the Being, we have said and we repeat, is not born, neither does he die, nor reincarnate in the run-of-the-mill intellectual animals. We can and should affirm beyond all doubt, that only a fraction of the Human Soul lives inside the Lunar Bodies; the latter is the Essence, the psychic material to elaborate a Soul, to develop the Human Soul and thereby the Spiritual Soul.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Being Is the Being, The Human Soul

The Monad, the Being, creates, fabricates, develops his Two Souls and the latter should serve and obey him.

We should distinguish between Monads and Souls. A Monad, in other words, a Spirit is; a Soul is possessed.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Being Is the Being, The Human Soul

Distinguish between the Monad of a world and the Soul of a world; between the Monad of a man and the Soul of a man; between the Monad of an ant and the Soul of an ant. The human organism, in final synthesis, is constituted by billions and trillions of infinitesimal Monads.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

11 passages

IIIThe Monads in themselves are indestructible

The organism is made of countless Monads, and they obey the principal Monad. When they leave the body death follows, and without them there could be no Return.

There are several types and orders of primary elements of all existence, of every organism, in the manner of germs of all the phenomena of nature; we can call the latter monads, employing the term of Leibnitz, in the absence of a more descriptive term to indicate the simplicity of the most simple existence.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

An atom, as a vehicle of action, corresponds to each of these germs or Monads.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The Monads attract each other, combine, transform themselves, giving form to every organism, world, micro-organism, etc.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Hierarchies exist among the Monads; the Inferior Monads must obey the Superior ones, that is the Law. Inferior Monads belong to the Superior ones.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

All the trillions of Monads that animate the human organism have to obey the owner, the chief, the Principal Monad.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The regulating monad, the Primordial Monad permits the activity of all of its subordinates inside the human organism, until the time indicated by the Law of Karma. When the billions or trillions of Monads or vital germs abandon the physical body, death is then inevitable.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The Monads in themselves are indestructible; they abandon their old connections in order to briefly carry out other new ones.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The Return to this world, the Reentry, Reembodiment would be impossible without the work of the Monads. They reconstruct new cells with their perceptions and sensations, they reconstruct new organisms. When the primordial Monad is totally developed, it can afford to utilize its trillions of Monads to create a world, a Sun, a comet and thus become a Regulating Monad of any Star, but that is already something of Gods.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Return and Reincarnation

The monads or Vital Germs are not exclusive of the physical organism; within the atoms of the Internal Bodies there are found imprisoned many orders and categories of Living Monads. The existence of any physical or suprasensible, Angelic or Diabolical, Solar or Lunar body, has billions and trillions of Monads as the foundation.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The lunar Ego in itself is a composite of atoms of the secret enemy. Unfortunately, the Monads or vital Germs are prisoners within such atoms.

Death comes when the vital values of the three brains are spent. The Ego goes on in the molecular world, and three things stay behind in the grave.

To each atom corresponds a vital Germ, a monad. All the infinite modifications, all the innumerable transformations, are the result of the varied combinations of the monads. Nature deposits in the Three Cerebrums of the human being a certain capital of Vital Values; when the latter are exhausted, death is inevitable.

The personality lingers in the cemetery. Mother Death and her Angels, who work under the Ray of Saturn, cut the silver cord.

VIITo unite with the immortal Triad after death

What matters for the Essence after death is to rise to the Electronic World and be one with its Triad. The Clear Light, the escape from the lunar bodies and the judgement decide it, and few attain it.

The Inner-Self, the Monad, the being with its Two Souls, before we were born in this valley of tears, dwells in the Milky Way and even during the life of the physical body here below, continues living in the stars.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Being Is the Being

The fundamental thing for the essence, after death, is to attain the Relative Buddhic State and the Intermediate liberation; this is only possible for the Soul Embryo that we have within, by climbing, ascending to the Electronic World.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

It is urgent to know that our Divine Immortal Triad, our being, our Buddha, lives in the Electronic World.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

To unite with the immortal Triad after death, to be one with it, in fact means to have become a Relative Buddha, to have achieved Intermediate Liberation and to enjoy a beautiful vacation before returning to a new human organism.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

If the Clear Primordial Light has been properly recognized at the supreme moment of death by the deceased, it is a clear sign that he has achieved Intermediate Liberation. If the deceased only perceives the Secondary Clear light at the supreme moment of death, it is a sign that he will have to struggle much to reach the Relative Buddhic State.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The difficult thing for the Essence is to become unbottled, to escape from its prison, to come out of the Lunar Bodies, to abandon the Pluralized I. Each person’s Karma is definitive in this matter.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Human Soul

When the deceased has relived the entire life that has just passed in a retrospective manner, he then has to appear before the Tribunals of karma in order to be judged. The legend of Zoroaster says, “Everyone whose good deeds exceeds his sin by three grams, goes to heaven; everyone whose sin is greater, goes to hell; while he, in whom they are equal, remains in the Hamistikan until the future body or resurrection.” Nowadays, in these times of perversity and crude atheistic materialism, a portion of the disembodied join the submerged mineral kingdom, the Infernal Worlds, after the judgment.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Law of Karma

Also, many are the millions who enter a new womb in an immediate manner, without having had a good vacation in the Superior Worlds.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Certainly, the selection process exists in all of nature and few are those who achieve Intermediate Liberation and the Relative Buddhic State.

from Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

We have already seen in the lesson of Cancer that the entire life of all persons is processed under the influences of the Moon, Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, with life closing with a Lunar end.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Really, the Moon takes us and the Moon brings us and the seven types of planetary vibrations in their indicated classical order, also repeat themselves after death for “As it is above, so is it below.”

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Law of Correspondence

The Essences, who after having been judged, have the right to intermediate Liberation and the Relative Buddhic State, need a certain type of very special ecstasy and constant right effort in order to become unbottled, to escape from the Lunar Bodies and the Ego. Fortunately, different groups of Masters assist the disembodied and help them in this work with the Rays of Grace.

IXThere are Kingdoms of inconceivable happiness

The molecular world has its paradises and kingdoms. He names several, and says how the disembodied should work to enter them.

In the same manner that Republics, Kingdoms, Presidents, Kings, Governors, etc. exist in this cellular world in which we live, likewise in the molecular world, there are many Paradises, Regions and Kingdoms where the Essences enjoy indescribable states of happiness.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The disembodied ones can enter Kingdoms of paradisaic happiness such as: that of dense concentration; the Kingdom of Long Hair (Vafrapani); or the Unlimited Vihara of the Lotus Radiation (Padma Sambhava).

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The disembodied ones who march towards the Intermediate liberation should help themselves, by concentrating the mind on any of the Kingdoms of the Molecular World. It is really very painful to wander from life to life, to roam through the horrible sewer of Samsara without enjoying the Buddhic State and the Intermediate Liberation.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Let us remember Maitreya’s Kingdom, the heavens of Tushita, that Kingdom of supreme bliss, which the disembodied ones who are headed towards the Electronic World can also enter.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The disembodied ones should pray a lot to the Great Compassionate One and his Divine Triad, firm in their purposes, without allowing themselves to be deviated by anything, if they truly do not want to fall into a new womb without having enjoyed the Intermediate Buddhic State in the World of Free Electrons. Happiness in the Electronic Regions, the Intermediate Liberation after having passed through the molecular paradises, is something that is impossible to describe with human words.

XThe Return to a new womb is carried out in accordance with the Law of Karma

Every reward is spent in time. The Essence loses the ecstasy, is bottled up again in the Ego, and the Monads build a new body.

However, every reward, every capital becomes exhausted. When the Dharma of happiness is exhausted, the Return to a new womb is then inevitable.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Return and Reincarnation, The Law of Karma

The instant in which the Essence loses the ecstasy is that in which it once again separates from its Inner-Buddha to remain bottled up in the Lunar Bodies and the Pluralized “I”. The Return to a new womb is carried out in accordance with the Law of Karma.

It is clear that upon arriving at this part of our present chapter, the fanatics of the dogma of Evolution will launch against us all their defamatory dribble and will protest saying, “The Ego cannot retrogress, everything evolves, everything should reach perfection, etc., etc., etc.”

Those fanatics ignore that the Ego is a sum of small animal I and that like attracts like. Those fanatics ignore that the Ego does not have anything that is divine; it is a sum of animal entities that the Law of Evolution will never be able to take to perfection. The animal entities have the full right to enter animal wombs of dogs, horses, pigs, etc., etc., etc., and that cannot be prohibited by the fanatics of the dogma of evolution, even if they yell, curse, and fume.

Apuleius says that in the Thessaly of witchcraft, the rocks were nothing but petrified men; the birds, men with wings; the trees, men with foliage; the fountains, human bodies that bled clear lymph. This is an admirable symbolic way to represent the doubtless fact for every occultist, that the different entities that constitute the Pluralized I, can become reembodied in the organisms of beasts or enter the Mineral, Vegetable Kingdom, etc., etc., etc.

PART SIX

the Sun enters
When the Sun enters the constellation of Capricorn (the Age of the Holy Spirit)

Beings of Aquarius! Exert yourselves on your path towards the light. Redeem and fuse yourselves with your Intimate, before the evil ones of this XX century leave the abyss. A new sign of darkness is approaching (Capricorn). Therefore, it is the time for you to be alert and vigilant, because the Earth will again be invaded by the Demon-Souls of this Dark Age, who I, Aun Weor bound into the abyss in order for you to have the happiness that you are now enjoying.

The Revolution of Beelzebub, 1950

“A thousand years” signifies various thousands of years. In other words, Javhe and his people will remain within the abyss during the whole luminous cycle of Aquarius. Yet, in the cycle of Capricorn, the last opportunity for their repentance on our Earth will be granted to them.

IIBut on Capricorn another black epoch will come

The Secret Notes of a Guru say more of that epoch: those now in the abyss return, and the people of Aquarius are to prepare for it.

But on Capricorn another black epoch will come, and the malevolent souls, that are actually entering the abyss, will again reincarnate in our Earth, and they will be given then another magnificent opportunity to repent from their evil ways.

Secret Notes of a Guru, 1952 also in Return and Reincarnation

“And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be loosed from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations which are at the four corners of the earth, that is, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. And they marched up over the broad earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city; but fire came down from heaven and consumed them.” (Rev.20: 79). In Capricorn, another opportunity will be given to the demon-souls to repent. And a physical body will be given even to Jahve himself. And Jahve will be born in the land of Judea, and the Jews will present him as a Messiah, they will say that this is the Messiah they were waiting for, and Jahve will perform miracles and fraudulent prodigies; and the souls, completely unredeemed, will go back with Jahve to the abyss for ever... And in the abyss these souls will go through the second death. These personalities, separated from the “Intimate” will disintegrate little by little among the flood of tears and the gnashing of the teeth.

Secret Notes of a Guru, 1952

The people from the 20th Century do not understand me, but the children of Aquarius will understand. Therefore, Brothers from Aquarius listen to me: the men from the 20th Century were barbarians, and went into the abyss. You will enjoy peace while they are in the abyss, but when they come back from the abyss the earth will be again filled with a horrible darkness. Make good use of the two thousand years of light. Realise yourselves to your utmost depth, and prepare to confront the darkness of Capricorn.

Secret Notes of a Guru, 1952

The Avitchi is a plane of submerged consciousness. The Avitchi is a lake burning with the fire of passion. The Avitchi is a submerged world, the “Abyss”. And it is painful to say it, but human evolution has failed, and humanity is falling almost in its totality in the horrible abyss. There is no doubt that in Capricorn many of the souls that experienced the pain of the “abyss” at last decided to follow the teachings of the CHRIST. But, Oh, God! Poor souls, those that when “Sagittarius” commences, have not repented from their sins, because then they will go back to the abyss for ever, and will be tormented for ever more.

IIICapricorn is an earth sign, fixed, stable

The Hermetic Astrology returns to the natives in its own words: the women of the sign, the inferior type, attachment to money, and the practical sense that saves them.

The women of Capricorn are magnificent wives, faithful to death, industrious, hardworkers, patient to the maximum, but in spite of all of those virtues, the husband betrays them, abandons them and often against their own will; unfortunately, that is their karma. Some women of Capricorn get involved with other men, but this is only after already being abandoned by the husband and after having suffered frightfully.

The sweep took the whole Capricorn chapters of three books: the Zodiacal Course (1951, ¶709–805, 97 paragraphs), the Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology (1967, ¶764–871, 108) and the Manual of Practical Magic (1954, ¶526–530, 5). It then took every other paragraph in any book that names Capricorn (20; the Tropic of Capricorn, a line on the map, was left out), the lines of his correspondence tables not already in, the plants and the perfume of Occult Medicine and Practical Magic and the table of the body in the Hermetic Astrology (¶28) (2 not already taken), and, where his sentence ran across the paragraph break, the paragraph beside it (13). That returned 245 candidate paragraphs in 13 books, 76 of them already printed in another work of the shelf. Every candidate was read twice, by independent readers working from a written brief. The two passes agreed on whether to print 98.4% of the time and on the class 97.6%, and a third reader, who saw neither verdict, settled the six they did not. 219 were judged printable. Of these, 48 were joined into the passage before them where his sentence or his list ran across several paragraphs, so 171 passages are printed here. The rest are recorded with the reason each was set aside.

The practices were not gathered in a separate pass. The twelve passages marked as practices are the ones the readers marked as giving the reader something to do. Ten of them are gathered as the last part, with the two passages that stand among them, the genii of the sign and the line of its perfume; the other two stand where they cannot be lifted out: the disciple choosing the hours to work with the stars, in the second part, after the planetary order they rest on.

What was set aside. Of the 26 paragraphs the readers set aside, 11 were headings, a table label, a list number, a salutation and the sign-offs of his letters, seven belonged to another sign or listed all twelve, three were entries of an index, three said nothing on the sign (a pointer back in a later lesson, and the paragraphs before two of his lines on the Age of Capricorn), and two named the sign only in passing (a vision, a list).

Twelve mends, every one recorded. Seven put a scanner’s slip right: “at the thresholdso must” for “at the threshold so must”; “the Inner-Sell the Monad” for “the Inner-Self the Monad”; “in the nm-of-the-mill intellectual” for “in the run-of-the-mill intellectual”; “the Relative Budathic State” for “the Relative Buddhic State”; “Pythagoras and in founded on” for “Pythagoras and is founded on”; “the internal wo rlds until” for “the internal worlds until”; “Capricorn arc hardworking” for “Capricorn are hardworking”. Five are trims, where the extraction ran words that are not part of the passage into it: the end of a sentence on the mission of Aquarius and the end of an exclamation, both run in from the paragraph before two of his lines on the Age of Capricorn; a numbered heading of Aquarius; the heading of an exercise; and the tail of the Hermetic Astrology exercise of the coffin (¶865), which prints up to “…when entering the Lodge.” because the scan’s tail on the natives is damaged; his words on the natives print whole elsewhere, in the seventh part. Otherwise the passages are printed as the extraction gives them, its remaining slips included (“animalsoul”, “ultraSaturnian”).

No sentence of his is cut in half. Each range was extended against the corpus until his sentence closed, and 20 ranges run over more than one paragraph.

No paragraph was left out on purpose. Every paragraph judged printable is printed.

63 passages also stand in a finished work, and every one is marked where it stands, most often in Return and Reincarnation (12), Zodiacal Course (10), The Mind (9) and The Keys of Astral Travel (9). The repetition is wanted: this is the vocabulary of the whole teaching, and a reader who meets the same line in a second book holds it better. What is not allowed is an overlap a reader cannot see.

No passage carries an editor’s note. Every passage from his early books was read for a line that credits the Kundalini to anything other than the work of the couple, and none does; the lesson’s words on the Kundalini of the mental body name the merits of the heart as the condition of its ascent, and the exercises of Capricorn are for the knees and for astral travel.

Checked twice over. Every section and part title is a line of his, proved against the passages under it. And every passage was checked word for word against a fresh extraction of its book.

The third work of The Zodiac, beside Scorpio, Sagittarius and the Zodiacal Course booklet on the shelf, which prints his practice for every sign. This one gathers everything he says on one sign. It wears the pale night-blue of the zodiac and the themed works’ two hairlines, in the lead slate of Saturn.
