Every word here is his. Nothing has been paraphrased or improved. Each passage was cut out of the book it belongs to by reference, and each carries that book and the paragraph it came from, so anything on this page can be found again in the source. Most of it comes from the three places where he gave a whole lesson on the sign, the Zodiacal Course, the Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology and the Manual of Practical Magic; the rest are the paragraphs where he names Sagittarius or the centaur in other books. Many of these passages also stand in other works of the shelf, chiefly Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted, The Science of Meditation and Gratitude and Kindness. They are gathered here on purpose: the same teaching comes back in several of them because hearing it again is how it settles.

The first two parts are the sign and its ruler: the ninth sign, a sign of fire, the sign of the hips and thighs, and the house of Jupiter: “Sagittarius is the sign of clairvoyance and comprehension.” “Jupiter in Sagittarius, influences the large femoral arteries”

The third is the centaur: half-horse, half-man, the horse being the Lunar Ego; the Hanasmussian, the Master who does not dissolve it; and the Divine Mother, without whom it cannot be eliminated: “The Hanasmussian is one half Angel, and one half beast, like the centaur of Sagittarius.” “The Divine Mother always helps us to comprehend when we call upon her”

The fourth is the resurrected and the dawn of Sagittarius: the Bodhisattvas, the Resurrected Masters in their solar bodies, and Sagittarius as an era to come: “This is the Initiatic Resurrection.” “The dawn of Sagittarius will be definitive.”

The fifth is the Tarot, to which the lesson of Sagittarius is given: the ten sephiroths, the twelve hours of Apollonius, the cards and how they are read: “The Tarot is the esoteric wisdom of the stars.”

The sixth and seventh are the natives and the correspondences: those born under the sign, and its metal, stone, genii, plants and perfume: “The metal of Sagittarius is tin; the stone is the blue sapphire.” “The metal is iron, its stone the carbuncle.”

The eighth part is the practice: his exercise for the sign, with the mantram ISIS, as both lessons give it, and how the white magician consults the cards: “It is necessary to practice intensely, daily, in order to magnetize the blood in the femoral arteries.”

This is the second of twelve, one for each sign, each released as the sun enters it.

Jupiterthe large femoral arteries
Jupiter in Sagittarius, influences the large femoral arteries, where the blood is totally magnetized under Jupiter

- Aun Vajrapni Hum In this lesson of Jupiter in Sagittarius, we have talked to thee of the nirvanic path, because thunderous Jupiter is the sacred symbol of our Inner Being. 12 passages

ITrue Practical Occultism and its terrible magical powers, demand the most frightening sanctity

The chapter on Sagittarius in the Hermetic Astrology begins with the alchemists of history. Their successes and failures lead to one lesson: the work asks for real sanctity.

PART THREE

half-manhalf-horse
Sagittarius is symbolized by a man who holds an arrow in one hand, half-horse, half-man.

From Geber to the enigmatic and powerful Count Cagliostro, who transmuted lead into gold and fabricated diamonds of the best quality, there existed a long series of Alchemists and investigators of the Philosopher’s Stone (Sex).

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Obviously, it is quite clear that only those sages who dissolved the Lunar Ego and despised the vanities of this world had true success in their inquiries.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Among all of those victorious Alchemists and Adepts who worked in the laboratory of Sexual Alchemy, Basil Valentine, Ripley, Bacon, Honks Roger, etc. stood out.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Nicholas Flamel is still very debated; some suppose that he did not attain the difficult goal during his life... since he refused to reveal his secret to the King, he ended his days locked up in the terrible Bastille.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Frankly, we are convinced that Nicholas Flamel, the Great Alchemist succeeded in transmuting all the Lead of his Personality into the marvelous Gold of the Spirit. Trevisan, the famous Trevisan, spent his entire fortune seeking the Philosopher’s Stone and managed to discover the secret at the age of seventy-five years, already too late. The Philosopher’s Stone is Sex and the secret is the Maithuna, Sexual Magic, but the poor Trevisan, in. spite of possessing a formidable intelligence, only managed to discover the secret in his old age.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Paracelsus, the disciple of Trithemius, Great Alchemist and Doctor, knew the secret of the Philosopher’s Stone, transmuted lead into gold and carried out surprising cures. Many suppose that Paracelsus died a violent death, by assassination or suicide, for having revealed a part of the Mysteries, but the reality is that Paracelsus disappeared without anyone knowing how or why.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

All of us know that Paracelsus acquired that which is called the Elixir of Long Life and that with said marvelous elixir he still sustains himself; he lives with the same physical body that he had in the Middle Ages.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Schroepfer and Lavater practiced certain too very dangerous Magical Rites, which caused them a violent death without having attained in-depth self-realization.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The famous doctor J. Dee sought the Philosopher’s Stone and never found it, but he was reduced to the most frightening misery. In the final years of his life, the poor doctor horribly degenerated with medium ship and became a toy of the inferior entities that live in the molecular world.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Seton was imprisoned for refusing to reveal the secret of the Philosopher’s Stone. Dr. Prise, of the Royal Society of London, succeeded in transmuting physical lead into material gold, but upon wanting to repeat the experiment before his colleagues, he failed and then, ashamed and desperate, he committed suicide.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Delisle, the great Delisle, for the same reasons, was imprisoned and upon trying to escape from the horrible dungeon where he was imprisoned, was killed by the guards.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

All these failures and hundreds of others reveal that the True Practical Occultism and its terrible magical powers, demand the most frightening sanctity, without which it is impossible to face the dangers of Alchemy and Magic.

IICrime garbs itself as a saint

Then he turns to those who believe themselves holy. Defect by defect, he shows how the aspirant can look virtuous outside while the ego goes on living within.

To speak of sanctity in these times is something very difficult because the world is full of stupidly sanctimonious persons who presume to be saints.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Hypocrisy

The Great Master of strength named Mona, conversing with us in Oriental Tibet, told us, “To become united with the Inner is very difficult; out of two who attempt to unite themselves with the Inner-Self, merely one achieves, because as the poet Guillermo Valencia said, among the rhythms of the verse, crime is also hidden.”

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Crime garbs itself as a saint, martyr, apostle millions of persons who are fans of occultist literature presume of holiness; they do not eat meat, or smoke, or drink, but at home, they fight with their spouse, they beat their children, fornicate, commit adultery, they do not pay their debts, they promise and do not fulfill, etc., etc., etc.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

In the physical world, many persons have reached absolute chastity, but when these persons are subjected to the test in the internal worlds, they then end up being frighteningly fornicating.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

There are many devotees of the path, in the world, whose humility astonishes others; they can calmly sleep on the floor, at the door of a rich man and are content with the crumbs that fall from the master’s table, but they are proud of possessing many virtues or boast of their humility.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Greed, Pride, Vanity

Many people have aspired to sanctity when they found out that authentic cases of true saints do exist. Many are those who envy the holiness of others and due to this also want to be saints.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Envy

Many individuals do not work in the dissolution of the Lunar Ego because of pure mental laziness, Innumerable aspirants to the Light eat three banquets daily; they are terribly gluttonous.

Many do not murmur with their lips, but they murmur with their mind and yet, they believe that they never murmur.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Internal Chatter, Slander

Rare are the aspirants who know how to obey the Father who is in secret. Wanting to tell the truth, almost all students of occultism, lie; they have a deceitful tongue. They affirm what they have not experienced and that is lie.

Nowadays, it is very common to bear false witness and many students of occultism do so without knowing that they commit a crime.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Lying, Slander

Vanity also dresses in rags and many are the aspirants who dress poorly and walk the streets in total untidiness, but vanity can also be seen through the holes of their clothes. Innumerable aspirants have not been able to abandon Self-Esteem; they love themselves too much and they suffer the unutterable when someone snubs them.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Gratitude and Kindness, Jealousy

We should not forget that every illness has psychic causes. Insults, irony, thunderous and offensive laughter, evil words serve to cause harm, illnesses, to assassinate, etc. Many parents would have lived a little longer, if their children would have allowed them. Almost all human beings are matricides, parricides, fratricides, uxoricides, etc., etc. Pity is lacking in students of occultism; they are incapable of sacrificing themselves for their fellowmen who suffer and cry.

IIISagittarius is symbolized by a man who holds an arrow in one hand, half-horse, half-man

The centaur is the sign's image: a man above, a horse below. The horse is the animal ego, and the one who has been born a second time still has to dissolve it.

The sign of Sagittarius invites us to reflect on all of this. Sagittarius is symbolized by a man who holds an arrow in one hand, half-horse, half-man.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The horse represents the animal Ego, the Pluralized I garbed with its lunar bodies. The “I” is not something individual; the “I” does not have any individuality. The “I” is plural. The lunar Ego is constituted by a sum of small ‘I’ Each psychological defect is personified by a small ‘I’. The entirety of all of our defects is represented by the Pluralized ‘I’.

The most serious problem that everyone who attains the Second birth has to solve is that of the Dissolution of the Lunar Ego.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Three Factors

The newly born Master is garbed with his Solar Bodies, but his Ego is garbed with the Lunar Bodies.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Two paths open before the newly born Master, that of the right and that of the left.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

On the path of the right tread those Masters who work in the Dissolution of the Lunar Ego. On the path of the left tread those who do not concern themselves with the dissolution of the Lunar Ego.

IVThe Hanasmussian is one half Angel, and one half beast, like the centaur of Sagittarius

A Master who does not dissolve the ego carries two centres of gravity, an angel and a demon in one person. The centaur of Sagittarius is the picture of this failure, and of how to avoid it.

The Masters who do not dissolve the Lunar Ego become Hanasmussians. A Hanasmussian is a subject with a double center of gravity.

from Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The Hanasmussian is one half Angel, and one half beast, like the centaur of Sagittarius. The Hanasmussian has two inner personalities, one of an angel, and another of a demon. The Hanasmussian is an abortion of the Cosmic Mother, a failure. If the Gnostic student dissolves the Lunar Ego before the Second Birth, he is completely cured, he solves his problem ahead of time, he secures his success.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Three Factors

Whoever invokes Andrameleck in the internal worlds will have the most tremendous surprise, because the demon Andrameleck or Andrameleck, the Master of the White Lodge, can attend. This person is a Hanasmussian with a double center of gravity. The dissolution of the Lunar ego is fundamental in the Great Work. Those who attain the Second Birth feel the necessity of eliminating the Lunar bodies, but this is not possible without first having dissolved the Lunar Ego.

VThe Divine Mother eliminates broken bottles

Comprehension of a defect frees the fraction of the Essence held inside it. Only then can the Divine Mother remove what is left, region by region of the subconscious.

The Twice-Born become stagnant in their inner progress when they lack Love.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Everyone who forgets his Divine Mother becomes stagnant in his progress. A lack of Love exists when we commit the error of forgetting our Divine Mother.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

It is impossible to eliminate all those small ‘I’ that constitute the Lunar Ego without the help of the Divine Mother.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Science of Meditation, Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

The comprehension of any defect is fundamental, indispensable, when one wants to eliminate the small “I” that personifies it, but the work of elimination in itself, is impossible without the help of the sacred five-legged Cow.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Science of Meditation, Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

The Divine Mother eliminates broken bottles. Each small “I” is a bottle within which a fraction of the Essence is engrossed.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Essence, The Human Soul, The Science of Meditation, Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

This means that the Essence, the Buddhata, the Soul or Fraction of the Human Soul that every intellectual animal has, has become thousands of fractions, which are bottled up. For example: Anger, is represented by hundreds or thousands of I each is a bottle within which the Essence is engrossed; to each bottle corresponds a fraction of the Essence.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Anger, The Essence, The Human Soul

All those bottles of Anger, all those I’s, live in each of the forty-nine departments or regions of the subconscious.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Anger, The Science of Meditation, The Subconscious

The comprehension of Anger in any subconscious department means to break a bottle; then, the corresponding fraction of the Essence becomes free.

from Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

When this happens, the Divine Mother intervenes by eliminating the broken bottle, the cadaver of a small shattered I. Each cadaver no longer has within the fraction of the Soul that it previously imprisoned and this cadaver disintegrates little by little in the infernal worlds.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

It is necessary to know that the Divine Mother only intervenes in this case, when the bottle is shattered, when the Essence enclosed in it has been liberated.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Human Soul, Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

If the Divine Mother was to eliminate the bottle with the little genie inside, the poor little genie, in other words, the Fraction of the Soul, would also have to enter the infernal worlds.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Human Soul, Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

When all the bottles have been broken, the Essence in its totality has been liberated and the Divine Mother dedicates herself to the elimination of cadavers.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in The Essence, The Human Soul, Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted

The comprehension of Anger in twenty or thirty subconscious regions, does not mean that one has comprehended it in all the forty-nine departments.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Anger, The Science of Meditation, The Subconscious

The comprehension of Anger in department three or four, means the breaking, shattering of a bottle either in department three or four. Nonetheless, many I of Anger, many bottles, can continue in all the other subconscious departments.

VIIIDante found many Centaurs in the abyss

The centaur is also a figure of the abyss. Dante met many centaurs in the underworld, and there is a law for them when they return to this world.

The Sign of Sagittarius with its famous centaur, one half Man, one half Beast, is something that should never be forgotten.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

But, is it not perhaps true that the Centaurs are assisted? What are the legends of the centuries telling us?

Runic Magic, 1969

These epic warriors (Centaurs) who fell bleeding among the helmets and bucklers of those who gloriously died for the love of their people and their country, receive a well deserved extra help when they return into this world.

It is written with tremendous words that the Centaurs, before returning into this valley of tears, eliminate part of themselves, part of their beloved ego.

Runic Magic, 1969 also in Return and Reincarnation

The Law for Centaurs is as follows: What is decisively criminal in them must enter the crematorium of the Infernal Worlds and what is less perverse must be reincorporated into a human body.

The old laurel crowned Florentine Dante found many Centaurs in the abyss. Let us remember Chiron the old tutor of Achilles and Pholus, who was so frenzied.

Runic Magic, 1969

Dante would not have found the terrible mysteries of the Abyss without those symbolic women named: Lucia (Divine Grace), Beatrice (Spiritual Soul) and Rachel (Mercy). Within the Under-World Dante found many sages and many men full of prestige and knowledge. He also found many Centaurs (half human, half beast).

The Solar Bodies, 1968

Within the Under-World live very famous Centaurs, such as the great Chiron who Achilles nursed; Pholus prone to wrath is found there too and the cruel Attila (who was the scourge of God on earth) and many others who in this day and age in certain countries are venerated as national heroes.

This is the Initiatic Resurrection.

The perfect Buddhas, dressed with the glory of Dharmasaya, can no longer help man or humanity, because nirvana is the forgetting of the world and men forever. The Bodhisattvas: Kuan-Shiyin, Tashisni, Buddha and Christ radiate their light over suffering humanity.

IIIThe dawn of Sagittarius will be definitive

Sagittarius is also an era to come, after Aquarius and Capricorn. His early books speak of it as the time of the second resurrection and of a final separation.

The new Era is the offspring of nature, and every birth is painful. In Aquarius only a select group of souls will be able to have a physical body; and there will be light, and wisdom and beauty; this is the first resurrection, because the second one will take place in Sagittarius.

The Avitchi is a plane of submerged consciousness. The Avitchi is a lake burning with the fire of passion. The Avitchi is a submerged world, the “Abyss”. And it is painful to say it, but human evolution has failed, and humanity is falling almost in its totality in the horrible abyss. There is no doubt that in Capricorn many of the souls that experienced the pain of the “abyss” at last decided to follow the teachings of the CHRIST. But, Oh, God! Poor souls, those that when “Sagittarius” commences, have not repented from their sins, because then they will go back to the abyss for ever, and will be tormented for ever more.

IThese ten sephiroths live and throb in our own conscience

The lesson of Sagittarius is given to the Kabbalah. It begins with the ten sephiroths, the three of the crown and the seven below, each with its card of the Tarot.

PART FIVE

XVIIThe star of hope
The Tarot is the esoteric wisdom of the stars.

The seven planets of the solar system are the seven sephiroths and the triune spiritual sun is the sephirothic crown. These ten sephiroths live and throb in our own conscience and we must learn to manipulate and change them in the marvelous laboratory of our interior Universe. These ten sephiroths are: Kether. The balancing force. “The Magician” of the first arcane of the Tarot, whose primitive hieroglyph is represented by a man. Chokmah. Wisdom. The Priestess of the Tarot. Occult wisdom. The second card of the Tarot. The moon, primitive hieroglyph, is the mouth of man, Binah. Intelligence. The Planet Venus, the third card of the Tarot. The Empress. The primitive symbol is a hand in the attitude of taking.

IIIThe Tarot is a book as ancient as the ages

All Kabbalah is reduced to the twenty-two major arcana and the four aces. Here he shows how the lesser cards are read from the aces and the numbers.

In this path we will have to live all the twelve hours of which the great sage Apollonius spoke about. “Papus”, the black magician, tried to disfigure the twelve hours of Apollonius with teachings of Black Magic, liquidating all the millions of Kabbalistic volumes that drift in the world. We arrived at the conclusion that: all Kabbalah is reduced to the twenty-two major arcanes of the Tarot and four aces, which represent the four elements of Nature.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

On such a simple thing, scholars have written millions of volumes and theories that would turn “crazy” anyone who had the bad taste of becoming intellectualized with all that arsenal.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

The worst of it is that in questions of Kabbalah, the black magicians took over what they found, to disfigure the teaching and lead the world astray. The works of Papus are legitimate black magic.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

The Tarot is a book as ancient as the ages, and is intimately related with the wisdom of the planetary gods. This book is the Tarot deck and is made up of 78 cards, divided into 22 called major arcanes, 56 denominated lesser arcanes.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

The four aces represent the elements of Nature. The Ace of Spades symbolizes fire. The Ace of Hearts symbolizes water. The Ace of Diamonds symbolizes air. The Ace of Clubs symbolizes earth.

The four aces represent the elements of Nature.

from Zodiacal Course, 1951

All the 56 cards of the lesser arcanes are based on these four Aces, and on the ten numbers of our decimal system. In the 22 major arcanes, for example, a four of Clubs, is no other but the arcane “4”, the emperor and the symbol of the Ace of Clubs repeated four times; the same happens with the 56 cards of the lesser arcanes. Intuitively interpret these cards combining the natural element with the major arcanes and the problem is resolved.

For example: a six of diamonds would be interpreted by combining the arcane VI with the element air, or “soul”, symbolized by the diamonds; this would say: “a love affair”, and so successively.

IVThere are two kinds of Kabbalists: intellectual Kabbalists and intuitive Kabbalists

The cards are read with the heart and not with the intellect. He gives his own experience of the cards shown by the Gods, and says what the exercises of Sagittarius are for.

There are two kinds of Kabbalists: intellectual Kabbalists and intuitive Kabbalists, The intellectual Kabbalists are black magicians; the intuitive Kabbalists are white magicians. The sidereal gods many times answer us by showing us a card of the Tarot; then we intuitively comprehend the answer that has been given to us. The intuitive Kabbalists, by merely looking at a card of the Tarot, comprehend what destiny reserves for them. On a certain occasion I consulted a genie about the convenience of making a trip, for which I was not prepared economically. The planetary genie showed me 3 cards. One of them was a King of diamonds, everything beautifully embroidered with gold; I understood with my heart and made my trip. Everything went very well.

Zodiacal Course, 1951 also in Imagination, Inspiration, Intuition, The Law of Destiny, Zodiacal Course

When humanity was judged before me, I saw the Tarot extended in lines of seven cards, and when a certain card of the sixth line was shown, the Gods judged the great prostitute (humanity) and considered her unworthy. The sentence of the Gods was: “To the abyss, to the abyss, to the abyss, to the abyss”! (The number of humanity is 666).

Zodiacal Course, 1951

The exercises of Sagittarius are to awaken clairvoyance and to see and comprehend all these things. The Kabbalists of intuition understand everything with the heart. The Intellectual Kabbalists want to resolve everything with the animal mind. The Kabbalist of intuition is only guided by the voice of the silence, the Inner Being. These cards of the Tarot is the language of the superior worlds of Light. These cards of the Tarot are the occult wisdom of the Sidereal Gods.

VEach year has its Kabbalistic card

The twelve hours are the path of initiation, and the numbers carry meaning. Each year has its card, and the names of people enclose their karma.

The 12 hours of Apollonius are the path of initiation. It is horrifying to see how men have accumulated so many theories on this book as simple and sublime as God.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

The 78 plates of the Tarot are like 78 ineffable hieroglyphs shining in this pyramid of five angles called man 1-2-3-4=10; the entire progress of the student is based on these numbers. Each year has its Kabbalistic card which allows us to make intuitive forecasts. Examples: 1951, is broken up like this: 1-9-5-1=16 Arcane XVI. The fulminated tower. Meaning divine destruction. Before the 21st of March of 1952, a great nation received a great Karmic punishment. (This is already defined). If we add together all the numbers of our birth date, we would obtain our own Kabbalistic number. There are those who figure out the numerical value of the letters in their own names and surnames. Iglesias Janeiro is a specialist in this but we are not interested in this branch, because it has not yet been studied in depth esoterically, in a scientific manner. The only thing I have proven is that within the name of people, according to the sense of the letters, Karma is enclosed. For example: women whose name is Dolores, suffer the unutterable in life. A certain Colombian politician had the surname “Turbay”, which we could break up like this: turba ais or ai, turba. This politician died without seeing his success and the turbas (crowds) did not follow him.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

The authorized Kabbalist only acts under the voice of the Inner being. When the intellect wants to combine the cards of the Tarot on its own, it falls into the most painful aberrations.

✦ ✦ ✦

How this was made. All fifty-two books were extracted (73,105 paragraphs, 2,157,671 words) and swept for the sign. The sweep took the whole Sagittarius chapters of three books: the Zodiacal Course (1951, ¶605–708, 104 paragraphs), the Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology (1967, ¶652–763, 112) and the Manual of Practical Magic (1954, ¶520–525, 6). It then took every other paragraph in any book that names Sagittarius or the centaur (25), the lines of his correspondence tables not already in (2), and, where his sentence ran across the paragraph break, the paragraph beside it (16). That returned 265 candidate paragraphs in 15 books. Every candidate was read twice, by independent readers working from a written brief. The two passes agreed on whether to print 99.2% of the time and on the class 98.5%, and a third reader, who saw neither verdict, settled the four they did not. 236 were judged printable. One of them, the bare label “SAGITTARIUS” over his table of perfumes, was set aside when the passages were placed, since the line it heads is printed. Of the 235 left, 81 were joined into the passage before them where his sentence or his list ran across several paragraphs, so 154 passages are printed here. The rest are recorded with the reason each was set aside.

The practices were not gathered in a separate pass. The seven passages marked as practices are the ones the readers marked as giving the reader something to do. Six of them are gathered as the last part, with the one passage that stands among them and closes it; the other one stands where it cannot be lifted out: the rule on the zodiacal perfume, beside the line on aloe it governs, in the seventh.

What was set aside. Of the 29 paragraphs the readers set aside, 13 were headings, list numbers, a salutation and the sign-offs of his letters, six named the centaur or the sign only in passing (in a list of myths or of monsters, a procession, the constellation of the sky), five belonged to another sign or listed all twelve, and five were front matter or a table of contents.

No word was mended. The passages are printed as the extraction gives them, the scanner’s slips included (“medium ship”, “runins”). No word of his is changed.

No sentence of his is cut in half. Each range was extended against the corpus until his sentence closed, and 24 ranges run over more than one paragraph.

No paragraph was left out on purpose. Every paragraph judged printable is printed.

79 passages also stand in a finished work, and every one is marked where it stands, most often in Whose Veil No Mortal Has Lifted (18), The Science of Meditation (10) and Gratitude and Kindness (9). The repetition is wanted: this is the vocabulary of the whole teaching, and a reader who meets the same line in a second book holds it better. What is not allowed is an overlap a reader cannot see.

No passage carries an editor’s note. Every passage from his early books was read for a line that credits the Kundalini to anything other than the work of the couple, and none does; the exercise of Sagittarius is for clairvoyance.

Checked twice over. Every section and part title is a line of his, proved against the passages under it. And every passage was checked word for word against a fresh extraction of its book.

The second work of The Zodiac, beside Scorpio and the Zodiacal Course booklet on the shelf, which prints his practice for every sign. This one gathers everything he says on one sign. It wears the pale night-blue of the zodiac and the themed works’ two hairlines, in the sapphire of Jupiter.
