“Hod, splendor, the region of the astral body”
Every word here is his. Nothing has been paraphrased, joined or improved. Each passage was cut out of the book it belongs to by reference, and each carries that book and the paragraph it came from, and, where he was speaking rather than writing, the name of the lecture. Anything on this page can be found again in the source.
This is the third book of the Tree of Life, one sphere above Yesod. He gives Hod its place in a single line: “Hod, splendor, the region of the astral body”. It is the left-hand column of the Temple, standing with the mind on the cubic stone: “The Astral is the Sephiroth Hod.” Read from the other end, the world and the sphere are one: “The Third Aeon is the Astral World, the Sephira Hod.” And he settles its ruler against the books of his day: “Hod, the astral, is governed by the Moon”, not Mercury.
The first part places Hod on the Tree: the magic triangle, its card and planet, the belt of the Mayan stelae, and the harder question of how anyone gets in. “It is one thing to understand a sephiroth and another thing to penetrate its region.” The second is its world: the astral plane that is as material as this one and interpenetrates it, “really the plane of Practical Magic”; the molecular world with its own time, of which he says “The molecular regions are saturated in happiness.”; and the fifth dimension, because “eternity is the fifth dimension”. There are no practices with steps in this book. The nearest thing is his condition for entry, put as a question: “How could we enter the Kabbalistic region of Hod if we do not have a psychological body?”

He places Hod eighth on the Tree, in the magic triangle with Netzach and Yesod, and names it the astral body, the column Boaz, the Third Aeon and the world of the emotions. In Hod he finds Natural Magic, as Hermetic Magic belongs to the mind.

The first triangle is Logoic; Kether, Chochmah and Binah. The second triangle is Ethic; Chesed, Geburah and Tiphereth. The third triangle is Magic; Netzach, Hod and Jesod. Malchuth, the physical world, is a fallen Sephiroth.
Tarot and Kabbalah, 1978 also in Malkuth, Yesod
As a further development there comes a third triangle, and is represented by Netzach the mind, the seventh Sephiroth. It continues with Hod, the eighth Sephiroth, the Astral Body; further down is Jesod, the ninth Sephiroth, the principal foundation of sex, the vital base of the human organism, the vital body or etheric vehicle, the Lingam Sarira of Theosophy.
Tarot and Kabbalah, 1978 also in Yesod
If we analyse the second triangle we find that it is Ethic. Why do we call it “Ethic”? Simply because there ethics, right conduct, predominate. There we know the rigor of the Law; there we come to know good and evil, to know what “good” and “evil” is. This triangle is the world of Pure Spirit, the Hindu Trimurti of Atman, Buddhi and Manas. Obviously the centre of gravity of this triangle is clear to see. It is the Human Soul. That Soul suffers and is the very human part within us — that is — Tiphereth, which coincides with the causal. This triangle is also denominated the Triangle of the Son. We find there that the Cosmic Christ, Chochmah normally manifests through the Human Soul, Tiphereth of the Hebraic Kabalah. The third triangle is very interesting. The Magic triangle is made up of the mind, that is Netzach, the Astral Body or Hod and the Etheric Body, that is to say, Jesod, the basic sexual principle of Universal Life. Why is it called a Magic triangle? Because undoubtedly in the Kingdoms of the Mind, of the Astral, and even of the Kliphos or Infernal worlds is where one exercises High Magic. Without doubt, in Netzach we can find Hermetic Magic and in Hod, Natural Magic. Other authors think differently. They believe that Natural Magic is in Netzach, the mental world. I must disagree with them in that aspect, because the mind properly defined, is Mercurian. There are authors who are not in agreement with my concepts, they consider it to be Venusian. I am sorry to have to take issue with those concepts, but anyone is able to realise that the mind is Mercurian. So then, Hermetic Magic must be identified with Mercury in the mind, and with respect to Natural Magic, Ceremonial or Ritual Magic etc., we may find it in the Astral world, in the Astral Body.

Thus, the Intimus with His two Souls, the Divine and the Human, officiates upon His Throne, which is the cerebro-spinal nervous system. He is crowned with the Sephirothic Crown. The Intimus dwells in His Temple. The Temple of the Intimus has two columns; Jakin and Boaz. Jakin is the Mind. Boaz is the Astral Body. The Mind is the Sephiroth Netzach. The Astral is the Sephiroth Hod. These two columns of the Temple are maintained upon the Cubical Stone of Jesod. That cubical stone serves as a foundation of the Kingdom of Malchuth.

These electrons release a type of unknown energy. If the intellectual animal, mistakenly called man, could split the electrons as it splits the atom, obviously, he would be able to cause a catastrophe, which would not only affect the three-dimensional part of Euclid, but even more, it would affect the Sephirotic regions of Hod or the world of emotions, or Netzach, the world of the mind, or maybe even Tiphereth, the world of natural causes. Those regions would suffer great damage.

Hod is the Astral World, the Astral Body. The Astral is governed by the Moon; it is due to this that astral projection is made easier with the waxing Moon, and a little more arduous with the waning Moon.

Death is realised in the spheres of the different planets. The Angels work in the Astral world and are governed by the Moon. The Archangels develop under the rule of Mercury and their work is realised in the world of the Mind. They control the substances or essence of the Mental world and this they have attained in the Ninth Sphere from moment to moment.

Now, we are going to study the Sephira Hod whose regent is Raphael. Let us see, we already studied the Arcane Thirteen, Death. Indeed, the Goddess of Death is an Adorable Mother. Jesus met her when he rose to Jordan in the solitude of the desert. She governs all the Angels of death. Let us reflect on the Arcane Twenty which represents the Resurrection. Let us study also the Arcane of Job, the famous Arcane Eight. This Arcane signifies, as a fact, ordeals and grieving. No one is worthy of receiving the Crown of Life without having passed through the ordeals of the Arcane Eight. The Sephira Hod of the Hebraic Kabbalah receives a force of a Mercurial type within the radiant manifestations of the astral plane. This force within the astral body is absolutely Mercurial. This is why the messages that descend from the world of the Pure Spirit become symbolic in the astral plane. These symbols are interpreted based on the Law of Philosophical Analogies, Analogies of the Contraries and in the Law of Correspondences and Numerology. Study the book of Daniel and the biblical passages of the Patriarch Joseph, son of Jacob, so that you can learn how to interpret your own astral experiences. The Astral Plane is really the Plane of Practical Magic. In the oriental valleys of the South American Country of Colombia, the natives know how to enter into the Astral Plane at will. They mix the ashes of a tree called Guarumo with very well grounded leaves of coca. Afterwards, they ritualistically chew such a vegetal mixture while being in a squatting position (this is the Peruvian Huacas’ position).

The astral plane is really the plane of Practical Magic. In some tribes, for example in the deepest jungles of the Amazon, the Piaches, Sorcerer-Priests, give the people a special substance to enable them to enter the astral plane at will.

They mix the ashes of the tree called Guarumo with the well pounded leaves of the Coca (Erithroxilon Coca L.) plant. They administer this when the Moon is waxing, and thus bring about astral separation. The Piaches well know that Hod, the astral, is governed by the Moon. Many kabalists however, consider that it is governed by Mercury, and they are mistaken. The messages which descend from the world of Pure Spirit become symbolic in the astral plane. These symbols are interpreted according to the Law of Philosophical Analogy, the Law of Analogy of Opposites, the Law of Correspondences and Numerology. Carved belts on the Mayan stelae mark the region of Hod in the human figure. The ordinary person has only a molecular body of desires, he says, and to enter Hod objectively one must create a second body from energy saved from negative emotions, and must tell the truth.
The scepter appears like on the other stelas, however here we notice a change because it reaches the belt, which in Hebrew corresponds to Hod. Hod in Hebrew corresponds to the astral world; this same thing is applied to all the sacred scriptures of all nations. The central rod (scepter) rising until connecting with the belt indicates the work with Hod and Yesod in order to convert us into workers of the Great Work.
The Mayan Mysteries, 1977
The miter on its head, the belt on the region of Hod—the astral world—and the scepter of power on the center—Yesod—clearly tell us about the perfection of a human being that has attained self-realization. But, what is the inner realization of the Being?
The Mayan Mysteries, 1977
Waist: it shows a magnificent belt, the Hod of the sages. We see the X cross or Cross of Saint Andrew on each end of this perfect and marvelous belt, as if stating, "Cross the mercury and the sulfur so that the solar man can be born within you."
The Mayan Mysteries, 1977
Its belt is very well adorned. A face is on the region of Hod, which indicates the Astral world, the Astral body of the human being. The astral body is a vehicle of expression through which Divinity can manifest itself. Much has been stated about the Astral body, however the intellectual animal falsely called a human being does not have an Astral body. Instead, he has a body of desires, a molecular body, and that is all. Conventionally, that molecular vehicle is inaccurately called "the Astral" or Astral body.
The Mayan Mysteries, 1977
One has the longing to be able to visit or enter the sephirotic regions of space. It is one thing to understand a sephiroth and another thing to penetrate its region. Obviously, the sephiroth are atomic and we, as Gnostics, have to penetrate the Tree of Life. We must know that there are different sephirotic regions in space; to penetrate them is wonderful. How could we enter the Kabbalistic region of Hod if we do not have a psychological body?
The Fifth Gospel Secret Repercussions of the Rings of Alcyone
There are psychological unfoldings. The various psychological aggregates, at a given instant, can combine themselves to penetrate the sephiroth Hod. But it would be a very subjective entry, it would not have the same objectivity as when the second body has been created.
The Fifth Gospel Secret Repercussions of the Rings of Alcyone
One has to create a body for those emotions. What kind of emotions am I referring to? To the superior emotions. The inferior emotions are obstacles for the experience of the real and for the animic growth of the Being. If we want to create a second body to enter the sephirotic region of Hod, it is obvious that we must not waste our energies clumsily by letting ourselves be carried away by negative emotions, whether they be violence, hatred, jealousy, pride or whatever. If the energies are wasted on inferior emotions, with what energy will the psychological body be created? In what way are we wasting them? In order to create the psychological body, it is necessary to save the energies, to then explore those regions of Hod. We have been told that these immense regions are governed by ineffable beings, by solar beings, for example, the Bene Elohim, the Sons of God who dwell in such vast and profound regions. Only the one who saves energy can penetrate the depths of Hod. It would not be possible to penetrate or gain access to the mysteries of life and death without the Kabbalistic Hod. This is obvious. Let us start by saving our energy. When a negative emotion shakes us, it is worthwhile for us to know what kind of psychological aggregate produced it and, after observing it in action, subject it to the technique of meditation to disintegrate such an aggregate. On the contrary, what would we do?
The Fifth Gospel Secret Repercussions of the Rings of Alcyone also in Anger
When a second psychological body has been formed, one that allows us to enter the sephirotic regions of Hod, it is possible to prove for ourselves what a lie is, falsehood. It is said that Michael is the ruler of such a sephiroth and it is obvious that he shines wonderfully in that region. How can we explore these regions if we are liars, if we are victims of negative emotions? Obviously, it is not possible.
The Fifth Gospel Secret Repercussions of the Rings of Alcyone
To be able to explore the regions of Hod or Netzach, one needs to learn to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, and no one can tell the truth when they let themselves be carried away by negative emotions.

Here the astral plane is an intermediate region, as material as the physical and interpenetrated with it. He places in it temples of initiation, the tribunal of Anubis, larvae of the lower regions, and a Lunar Heaven above a Lunar Hell.
Clairvoyance is based in objectivity; pseudo-clairvoyance is based in subjectivity. Understand that by objectivity we mean spiritual reality, the spiritual world. Understand that by subjectivity we mean the physical world, the world of illusion, that which has no reality. There is also an intermediate region, the Astral World, which can be objective or subjective according to the degree of spiritual development of each person.

When reaching this part of our present chapter, we have to give some explanations about this matter, because many readers would think it strange that we talk about books within the astral world and it is because people are accustomed to think that the astral world is a vague, fluid, vaporous, intangible, immaterial, etc. world. We, the Gnostics, are essentially ‘realistic’ and we have reached the conclusion that nothing can exist, not even God, without the help of matter, even though what is matter is something absolutely unknown to the so called materialistic schools. Such schools are nothing else but a theoretical ‘cage of parrots’, because in reality these ‘know-it-alls’ of materialism truly do not know anything else but the most gross states of matter. For example, what do they know about occult chemistry, the anatomy and ultrabiology of the internal bodies of the human being? Materialistic skepticism is the result of a cerebral dementia. This has already been confirmed by the psychiatric doctors of Paris, when they were analyzing the brain of an existentialist. In reality, within each normal human being, there exists a true, natural mystic who is without any type of aberration. This is because the materialistic, as well as the spiritualistic theories are equally filled with aberrations and fantasies. Therefore, we, the Gnostics are not spiritualists, neither materialists, but we are ‘realists’. We deeply know about the infinite manifestations of matter and the Spirit, and we know that the fundamental base of the Being is not Spirit neither matter. The ‘Glorian’ is a substance, which gives its substance to itself, yet, it is not Spirit or matter. Therefore, when we affirm that Beelzebub had to erase his name from the book of a temple, we speak with much authority as when we say that we have to erase a name from a physical-material book. If material objects exist in this physical plane, likewise material solid objects exist within the astral region, because the astral plane is as material as the physical plane. Moreover, we can visit the astral plane any time we want by penetrating within it with our physical body of flesh and bones, dressed and prepared as if we are going on the street for a walk.

There exist people who after having received this clue perform this experiment immediately. Yet, other people take weeks, months and even entire years in order to perform what others can do immediately after learning the clue. Everything depends upon the degree of evolution of every one. This is what is called in occultism “Jinn State.” The powerful, energetic forces of the subconscious are the ones which take the physical body out from the chemical-physical region and place it within the astral plane. This is how the physical body abandons the law of gravity and this chemical region, in order to penetrate within the astral plane, where the laws of levitation reign. As the smoke of the chimney is mixed with the atmosphere without confusion, in the same way these two worlds, astral and physical, are mixed and they are interpenetrated without confusion. Therefore, everything that I say can be confirmed by all those people who have the kindness of listening to me and having faith.

In astral body we masters subject disciples to many tests. In an astral plane and in astral bodies our disciples receive their initiations in the temples of the astral plane. Whoever awakens consciousness can travel with his internal bodies out side of the physical body with complete conscious will and study his own book of destiny in the Temple of Anubis and his forty two Judges. The head of the priests of the Tribunal of Karma is the great Master Anubis. The Temple of Anubis, the supreme regent of karma is found in the molecular world, called by many, the astral world. In that tribunal only rules the terror of love and justice. There, exists a book for each one with the debts and credits. Each day one’s good and bad actions are meticulously noted in it. Good acts are represented by strange coins which the Masters accumulate in favour of the men and women who perform them. Defence lawyers are also to be found in that tribunal; however, everything is paid for, nothing is obtained as a gift. He who has good works pays, and comes off well in the dealings. Credit solicited is paid for with unselfish works, inspired by love for those who suffer.

He calls the astral the Molecular World, with its own slower time and faster light. It is the Paradise of the religions, where the disincarnate rest for a while before returning, under the rule of the Moon.
Our solar system is a complete body with four complete circles. The circumference of the each of the circles has its respective time pattern., The circle of the Mineral Region called Hell or Avitchi etc. has a time scale that goes from 80,000,000 to 80 years; a terribly slow time, very appropriate for all the mineral processes which take place within the earthly crust in that kingdom called Hell or Avitchi. The circle of Cellular Life extends from 60 years to a month, and within this time all organisms that live on the surface of the earth normally develop. The circle of Molecular Life extends from one month to 40 minutes and measures all phenomena and happenings of the Molecular World. The Molecular World is the region or regions of the atmosphere, the Paradise of all religions.
The Book of the Dead, 1965
When the three and a half days have passed the essence enters a state of Lunar-type Consciousness. At the moment of death we RE-LIVE our life in a retrospective form, under electronic discharge but in a very rapid and terrible way; in the Molecular World we again re-live the life that has just passed, but in much slower form because time in the Molecular World is slower than in the Electronic World.
The Book of the Dead, 1965
The Electronic World is marvellous. In the Molecular World light and sound are diffused 100 times more rapidly than in the Cellular World, but in the Electronic World they travel instantaneously, not along a line like in the Cellular Region, nor across an area like smell, but across a volume of space, and, being independent of atmosphere they can travel to the Sun in seven minutes.
The Book of the Dead, 1965
The Molecular Region is the region of Paradise. Those beings who suffered greatly in life and who were relatively good become submerged in the happiness of the Molecular World, before taking a new physical body. The molecular regions are saturated in happiness. The human Essences enjoy these ineffable regions in the absence of their PLURALIZED EGOS.
The Book of the Dead, 1965 also in Return and Reincarnation
The Molecular Region has various ineffable countries. These are the planes and subplanes that Theosophers and Rosacrucians speak of. In these regions of limitless happiness the disincarnate live happily until their time runs out.

When, for example, we refer to the Moon, we should not think of the physical satellite, Moon. The diabolic sublunar region must not be sought in the Moon, but rather in the interior of the Earth. Now let’s think about the Lunar Heaven; this does not exactly mean that it is of the Moon, but rather of the superior regions, that is, molecular regions which are lunar and are governed by the Moon. It is a lunar molecular world which is to be found here, in our world. This first Lunar Heaven has its science, here are to be found the souls who merit ascending to this region, because not all of the disincarnated succeed in attaining this heaven. The majority of the disincarnated return from the threshold in order to enter the region of the dead, and later penetrate a new womb. Others enter involution submerged in the nine infernal spheres.

Eternity is the fifth dimension, not time drawn out in a line. The dead enter it and are expelled again, for only those who have Being can remain there.
The International Gnostic Movement emphatically affirms that a Fifth Dimension exists, known with the solemn name of Eternity.
My Return to Tibet, 1969
The human mind conceives of eternity as the protraction of time in a straight line—nothing could be more mistaken than this concept, because eternity is the fifth dimension. Every moment of existence happens in time and repeats eternally.
Fundamental Education, 1970
Time does not exist within Eternity. It is clear that Eternity becomes the fifth dimension. You know this... In Eternity, everything is processed within an eternal now...
Parsifal Unveiled, 1970
Beyond the three known dimensions, length, breadth and height, there is the fourth dimension Time; and beyond time we have the fifth dimension Eternity. Nevertheless we can assure you that beyond eternity exists a sixth dimension; beyond eternity and time. In this sixth fundamental dimension the total liberation begins. Only the person who awakens in all the six fundamental dimensions of space is a true clairvoyant, a Turiya, a legitimate enlightened one.
The Perfect Matrimony, 1950 (ed. 1966) also in Yesod
The ghosts of the dead live in the fifth dimension; this is ETERNITY. Length, width, and depth are the three dimensions of the cellular world. Time is the fourth dimension; eternity, the fifth dimension, and that which is beyond eternity and time corresponds to the sixth dimension. In fact, liberation begins in the sixth dimension, the world of the divine spirit; it is the Electronic World of the SIXTH DIMENSION. All those who die enter the fifth dimension. Eternity opens to devour the dead and then expels then from its bosom to return them to the world of time and physical form. The dead are expelled from eternity because they still do not have BEING. Only those who have BEING can live in eternity. The BEING is the INTIMATE, the SPIRIT. It is necessary to work first with molecular material to make soul and them to refine the energy of this soul to a higher grade to make spirit. It is necessary to transmute molecular material into electronic material and cause the fission of the atom to liberate the sacred fire that converts us into divine spirits.

How it was made. All fifty-two books in the library were searched for Hod by name, and for its world under each of his names for it, the astral world or plane, the molecular world and the fifth dimension, wherever he says what that world is, sets two of its names together, or ties it to eternity, emotion, desire or the Moon. The phrase astral plane on its own was not enough: he uses it well over a hundred times, nearly always for astral travel or the astral body at work. That found 104 candidates in 29 books. Each was read by two readers working apart, who agreed on 93 of them; a third reader, who did not see what either had decided, settled the 11 they did not. 52 paragraphs were judged printable; they make 47 passages, and 45 are printed here.
What was left out, and why. Most of the paragraphs not printed use the astral world in passing while teaching something else, or name Hod only in a list of the ten. Others belong to other works and stay there: leaving the body and the Jinn state to The Keys of Astral Travel, the astral body as a body of the human being to the books of the bodies, the dead and what befalls them to Return and Reincarnation, the infernal worlds to the last book of this family. Where he says, in the course of them, what Hod or its world is, the passage is here. The Kabbalistic invocation that names Hod on the way to the cubic stone is printed in Yesod, whose practice it is.
Kept whole, not padded. 2 printable passages were set aside when the sections were made, each because another passage in the work gives the same teaching more fully. 20 passages run over more than one paragraph, where his sentence crosses the break.
He does not always agree with himself, and nothing here smooths it over. In 1951 he gives Hod Mercury and the seventh card; in the Kabbalah course, Justice and the eighth; in 1961 a force of a Mercurial type and the regent Raphael; in 1969 the Moon, and the kabbalists who say Mercury “are mistaken”; in the lectures, Michael. Each stands in its own words, with its year.
What was done to his words. Nothing was paraphrased. The only changes are to the scanning and the setting: words broken at the end of a line and closed up against the corpus; 10 places the scanner damaged or the setting ran into the text, given in their plain reading (forty for fo rty, Malchuth for Maichuth, is the region for if the region, know-it-alls for know- it-ails), and two headings set inside the first line of a passage. Each change is recorded with its place in the book in the project notes.
16 passages also stand in a finished work, and each one is marked where it stands.
