Every word here is his. Nothing has been paraphrased or improved. Each passage was cut out of the book it belongs to by reference, and each carries that book and the paragraph it came from, so anything on this page can be found again in the source. Most of it comes from the three books where he gave a whole lesson on the sign, the Zodiacal Course, the Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology and the Manual of Practical Magic; the rest are the paragraphs where he names Cancer in other books. Many of these passages also stand in other works of the shelf, chiefly Return and Reincarnation, Zodiacal Course, The Retrospective Exercise and The Science of Meditation. They are gathered here on purpose: the same teaching comes back in several of them because hearing it again is how it settles.

The first part is the house of the Moon: the dates of the sign and its table, its metal, stone, colour and element, the number four, its plants, the Crab and the sacred Scarab, the genii of the sign, and the thymus gland in the living zodiac: “The metal of Cancer is silver; the pearl is its stone; its color is white.” “…since it is the fourth constellation.”

The second is the lunar influences: what the Moon governs in all that lives, the secret planet behind it and the black moon, the Angel Gabriel and the phases of the Moon for the works of magic, the tides, and the seven-year periods of a life, from the Moon round to the Moon again: “The Moon adjusts the procreation of all that is alive.” “…all the sidereal energies crystallize in our terrestrial globe through the lunar forces.”

The third is the sign of the sacred scarab: reproduction and the souls that return, the sickness that bears the sign’s name, which he calls the karma of fornication, and conception under the Moon in Cancer: “In Egypt, the sacred scarab symbolizes the soul.” “Conception without the Moon is impossible.”

The fourth is the Ego and the Being: the two roads of the Bhagavad Gita, the luminous and the dark, the five causes of every action, the human machine moved by the planets, the study of the Ego, the Inner Being, and the Avitchi and the second death: “The Ego is born, the Ego dies.” “If we want to dissolve the Ego, we should first study it.”

The fifth is the Moon that carries away and brings the dead: the lunar Ego, who returns and who does not, death and conception, the waves of death and the chromosomes: “Death and conception are intimately united.” “The Vibratory Waves of Death carry the image of the deceased.”

The sixth is the body prepared for practical magic: the practical teaching, the Angel Gabriel who prepares the body, the seal of Solomon at the thymus, the thymus and the mother’s milk, and his summary of the lesson: “The magician’s body is different from others because it is prepared.” “…the Mother’s Mammary Glands are intimately related to the Thymus Gland.”

The seventh is the natives, those born under the sign: “Conscious Imagination is advisable.” “…like the crab, they prefer to lose a leg than to lose a prey.”

The eighth part is the practice of the period of Cancer: the prayer and the invocation of the Angel Gabriel, the meditation on the seal of Solomon, the Retrospective Exercise, and the perfume: “…like someone who is watching a movie from the end to the beginning” “…remove all thought from thy mind”

This is the ninth of twelve, one for each sign, each released as the sun enters it.

The ‘Selenites’ are the most vulgar and laggard beings of our earth: there was a need to confine them there. Almost all the inhabitants of that city are women. These beings are neither good nor bad, but simply “laggards”. As they evolve, they are given a body here on earth once again and at last, they will all have a body again. Another small moon called Lillith by astronomers also exists. Lillith is the black moon. The souls that have already totally separated themselves from their superior ego formed by Atman-Buddhi-Manas, go there. Those souls are of an indescribable perversity and there, have to go through the second death to which the Apocalypse refers and of which the Christ spoke to us about.

VThe first seven years of life are governed by the Moon

Life runs in periods of seven years, each under a planet in turn, from the Moon in childhood through Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, and back to the Moon in old age. A line from a later chapter looks back on this lesson.

The first seven years of life are governed by the Moon. The second seven years of Life are one hundred percent Mercurial, the child then goes to school, is restless, is in incessant movement.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The third septennium of life, tender adolescence between fourteen and twenty one years of life, are governed by Venus, the Star of Love; that is the age of the sting, the age of love, the age in which we see life rose-colored glasses.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

From 21 (twenty one) up to 42 (forty two) years of life, we have to occupy our little place under the Sun and to define our life. That period is governed by the Sun.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The septennium comprised by the period between forty two and forty nine years of age, is one hundred percent Martian and life then becomes an authentic battlefield, because Mars is war.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The period between forty nine and fifty six years of age is Jupiterian; it is clear that those who have Jupiter well situated in their horoscope, during that period of their life are respected by the whole world and if they do not possess the unnecessary worldly riches, they at least have what is necessary in order to be able to live very well.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Another is the fate of those who have Jupiter badly situated in their horoscope; those persons then suffer the unutterable, they lack bread, clothes, shelter, they are ill treated by others, etc., etc., etc.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The period of life comprised between fifty six and sixty three years, is governed by the ancient of the heavens, old Saturn.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

Really, old age begins at fifty six years of age. Once the period of Saturn has passed, the Moon returns; it brings the Ego to Birth and it takes it away.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

If we carefully observe the elders of very advanced age, we can verify that they certainly return to the age of children; some old men and women once again play with little cars and dolls. Elders who are older than sixty three and children under seven years are governed by the Moon.

“And the third angel (Uriel) poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.” Thus, this is how the constellation of Cancer will strike all the fornicators of the earth with its plague (cancer).

The Aquarian Message, 1960

It is ostensible that this fatal germ arrives to the planet Earth submerged within the electromagnetic currents from the Constellation of Cancer. By all means, cancer is the karma of fornication. It is obvious that ancient wise men knew in depth this very special type of Nemesis.

VThis can also be done by the Internal God of any of thee

He answers those who mocked his teaching on the abyss: such works are done not by his person but by the Inner Being, and the same Being dwells in each disciple.

In her sixth volume of “The Secret Doctrine”, H.P.B. refers to the avitchi and the second death.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

The Bhagavad Gita talks to us about the abyss also, but it was enough for us to talk about this topic, for the spiritualists of Columbia to laugh at us.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

I have never said that my physical person is occupied in confining the perverse souls in the abyss. This would be out of tone, since I am a man like any other: God is the only one who has those powers. Marvels of that nature are only done by “Atman”, the great Universal Spirit of life; “Alaya”, the super soul of Emerson, the great soul of the world. These marvels have only been done by my internal God, my “Purusa”, my “Superior Being”, my Inner-Self, my Internal Master, my Monad, my Internal Angel, before who, I have to kneel, because he is Atman, the Ineffable.

Zodiacal Course, 1951 also in The Being Is the Being

Masters are many, but the “Soul-Master” is one: The Soul of the World, the divine “Alaya” that seems to be many. Samael Aun Weor is the authentic name of a flame of the great blaze, before whom I must prostrate myself.

VIThe Avitchi is a very old subject

Others before him wrote of the Avitchi and the second death. When the bridge between the divine triad and the lower self breaks, the lower self sinks into the abyss and the triad goes on with new bodies.

Samael Aun Weor means “Will of God” and the Will of God is what has written this work. Therefore, when we talk of Avitchi, we do not say anything new, almost all the better spiritualists comment, describe, mention it. So what?

Zodiacal Course, 1951

Spiritualists grieve deeply that “Atman” the great universal spirit of life is acting through one of his flames to accomplish a cosmic mission. Yes, so and so are amazed, because ignorance in its bold simplicity is a celestine beggar, with whom one cannot have immaculate contact! Where is the wisdom of all those fools who criticize me? What became of it?

Zodiacal Course, 1951

The Avitchi is a very old subject: even the very Doctor E. Adoum (Mago Jefa) talks to us about the second death in “La Zarza de Oreb”. So what?

Zodiacal Course, 1951

In ancient times, the totally separated personalities from the divine triad (Atman-Buddhi-Manas) remained in the Avitchi of our earth. (See the sixth volume of “The Secret Doctrine” of H.P.B.)

Zodiacal Course, 1951

Today, the times have changed: we are beginning the New Aquarian Age and we have to isolate from this terrestrial globe those personalities that are already separated from their divine triads to cleanse the atmosphere of all evil. That is all, if this is reason for mockery on the part of lecture-hall spiritualists and occasional readers, whose fault is it? When the bridge called “Antakarana”, which communicates the divine triad with his “inferior I” is broken, then the inferior I is left separated and is sunk in the abyss of destructive forces, where it disintegrates little by little. This is the second death of which the Apocalypse talks to us about; that is, the state of consciousness called “Avitchi”. In these cases, the divine triad (Atman-Buddhi-Manas) is clothed with a new mental and astral body to continue its evolution, and the discarded personality is submerged in the state of “Avitchi”, into the most inexpressible suffering.

IIThe Moon carries away all Egos, but does not bring them all back once again

Not everyone returns, and few rest in the world of the gods first. The Perfect leave by the road of light, and for each age there is a precursor and an Avatar.

The sacred scriptures of the Jains says: “The universe is inhabited by different creatures existing in Samsara, born from different families and castes. Due to having committed several actions and depending on what they are, they sometimes go to the world of the gods, other times to the inferno, and sometimes they become Asuras (diabolic persons). This is how living beings, who are incessantly born and reborn because of their evil actions, do not despise Samsara.”

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Return and Reincarnation

The Moon carries away all Egos, but does not bring them all back once again. During these times, the majority enter the infernal worlds, the sub-lunar regions, the Submerged Mineral Kingdom, the exterior darkness where only crying and the gnashing of teeth are heard.

The Perfect, elected ones, those who dissolved the Ego, fabricated their Solar Bodies and Sacrificed themselves for Humanity, are Blessed; upon leaving the physical body with death, they take the path of fire, of the light, of the day, of the luminous fortnight of the Moon and of the northern solstice; they have incarnated the Being, they know Brahma (the Father who is in secret) and it is clear that they go to Brahma (the Father). Jainism says that during this Great Day of Brahma, twenty four Greater Prophets who have attained Total Perfection descend to this world.

Gnostic scriptures say that there are Twelve Saviors, in other words, Twelve Avatars, but if we think of a John the Baptist as precursor and of Jesus as an Avatar for Pisces, the age that just passed, we can then comprehend that for each of the twelve zodiacal ages there is always a precursor and an Avatar, a total of twenty four Great Prophets Mahavira was Buddha’s precursor and John the Baptist was that of Jesus.

IVThe Vibratory Waves of Death carry the image of the deceased

The waves of death carry the image of the one who died to the fertilised egg, as a screen receives a broadcast, and under the Moon the design of the dead takes form in the embryo.

The vibratory waves of the deceased are similar to television waves that carry images. The embryo is, to the waves of death, what a screen is to the waves of transmitting stations.

Under the Lunar Influence, the spermatozoa penetrates the egg’s covering which instantly closes once again, imprisoning it. There it generates a very interesting field of attraction, attracting and being attracted towards the feminine nucleus, which silently awaits in the egg’s center.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

When these two capital nuclei fuse into a single unit, the chromosomes begin their famous dance, intertwining and re-intertwining themselves in an instant. This is how the Design of someone who agonized and died, comes to crystallize in the embryo.

Vthe Genes constitute the frontier between this world and the other

The chromosomes, the pair that decides male or female, and the genes on which the waves of death set the lost body in order again.

Each ordinary cell of the human organism contains forty chromosomes; this reminds us of the forty-eight laws of the world in which we live.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Malkuth, The Laws of the Three and of the Seven

The reproductive cells of the organism only contain a single chromosome from each pair, but in their union they produce the new combination of forty-eight, which cause each embryo to be unique and different.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967 also in Malkuth

Every human form, every organism, is a precious machine. Each chromosome carries in itself the seal of some function, quality or special characteristic; one pair determines the gender, since the duality of this pair is what makes females.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The odd pair of chromosomes originates males. Let us remember the Biblical legend of Eve who was made from Adam’s rib and having, therefore, one rib more than him.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

The chromosomes themselves are made up of genes and each of the latter, by a few molecules. Really, the Genes constitute the frontier between this world and the other, between the third and the fourth dimension.

Part Six — prepare the physical body for practical magic

3 passages

Iwe, the Gnostics, are essentially practical

The lesson opens: the Gnostic teaching is practical and leads its disciples into the higher worlds in the astral body and even in the body of flesh and bone.

PART SIX

the seal of Solomon
The magician’s body is different from others because it is prepared.

You have already studied and practiced the lesson of Gemini. Today we enter the constellation of Cancer.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

Throughout thy studies, thou have realized that we, the Gnostics, are essentially practical. We frankly do not like to spend our lives theorizing; we get down to brass tacks, we are tired of so much theory. We are essentially “realistic”. We want deeds, not theories nor morbid intelligences. We like effective realities. We head towards great realizations. All the spiritualist schools talk to you about supra-sensible worlds, but we go beyond that because we are more practical. We teach our disciples how to enter those worlds in the astral body and even with the very body of flesh and bone, in a totally conscious and positive manner.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

This entering of the physical body into the ultra-sensible worlds appears to be strange to the theorists because they know nothing else but how to theorize; but to the comprehensive, this does not seem strange. It is, of course, as old as the world. In not too remote times, the physical body moved and developed within the astral world, so what? After this short preamble, let us enter in full into our present lesson of Cancer. Cancer is the house of the Moon. Its metal is silver, its stone, the pearl, and white, its color.

IIIthe two triangles of the superior and inferior forces interlace to form the seal of Solomon

The forces from above and below meet at the thymus and form the seal of Solomon. In Cancer the energies gathered in the lungs under Gemini pass to the thymus, the gland of growth that is joined to the mother's breast.

The forces that descend from heaven, on arriving at our “thymus gland”, meet the forces that ascend through our organism from the earth, and there, in the “thymus gland”, the two triangles of the superior and inferior forces interlace to form the seal of Solomon.

How this was made. All fifty-two books were extracted (73,105 paragraphs, 2,157,671 words) and swept for the sign. The sweep took the whole Cancer chapters of three books: the Zodiacal Course (1951, ¶258–327, the lesson on Cancer, with the summary of the fourth lesson, ¶1000–1004; 75 paragraphs), the Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology (1967, ¶200–269, 70) and the Manual of Practical Magic (1954, ¶452–457, 6). It then took every other paragraph in any book that names Cancer (71), and every paragraph that names the crab or the scarab (10), for the readers to keep only where he ties them to the sign; the lines of his correspondence tables not already in, from Occult Medicine and Practical Magic (3); and, where his sentence ran across the paragraph break, the paragraph beside it (26). The word Cancer also names the sickness: every paragraph of the sickness was swept with the rest, and the readers kept it only where his own words tie it to the sign or its constellation. The Moon, silver and the stomach were not searched for on their own: they run all through his books, and the lessons on the sign carry what he says of them under Cancer. That returned 261 candidate paragraphs in 17 books, 79 of them already printed in another work of the shelf. Every candidate was read twice, by independent readers working from a written brief. The two passes agreed on whether to print 99.6% of the time and on the class 98.1%. A third reader, who saw neither verdict, read the one disagreement on whether to print, a paragraph of My Return to Tibet on the sickness as the karma of fornication, which does not itself name the sign (¶1755, set aside); the four differences of class, the invocation of the thirteen thousand rays in the Zodiacal Course (¶319, printed as a practice), the heading of the zodiacal plants and the bare label of the sign in the list of perfumes in Occult Medicine (¶1514, ¶1604, set aside) and the Camphor line of that list (¶1616, printed); and two lines the readers agreed on, the line before ¶1755 (¶1754, printable, and left out in placing as a repeat, below) and the lead-in to the list of perfumes (¶1600), where the readers’ verdict stands. 153 were judged printable; one was left out as a repeat, and 24 were joined into the passage before them where his sentence or his list ran across several paragraphs, so 128 passages are printed here. The rest are recorded with the reason each was set aside.

The practices were not gathered in a separate pass. The eleven passages marked as practices are the ones the readers marked as giving the reader something to do. Six are gathered as the last part, with the two passages that stand among them: the aim of the Retrospective Exercise and the perfume of the sign. The other five stay beside the teaching they belong to: falling asleep in the Retrospective Exercise, in the fourth part with the study of the Ego, and the preparing of the body with the Angel Gabriel, in the sixth.

What was set aside. Of the 108 paragraphs the readers set aside, 69 spoke of the sickness without tying it to the sign: its germ, the experiments on it, the formulas and plants he gives against it, the testimonies of those who were sick, and the headings of those chapters. Nine spoke of a scarab or a crab without tying it to Cancer; of the 10 paragraphs of the crab and the scarab the sweep found, all 10 were set aside, because where he ties them to the sign the lessons on the sign already hold it. Nineteen were headings, salutations, sign-offs, list numbers, tables of contents and the labels of his tables; eleven belonged to the sign before or the sign after, named Cancer only in a list of the signs or in passing, or used the name for something else.

One paragraph left out, seven mends, recorded. My Return to Tibet ¶1754 is one sentence, and the same sentence opens Occult Medicine ¶827, which is printed here and goes on to say what the sickness is; it is not printed twice. This page prints “Atman-Buddhi-Manas” for “Atman-BuddhiManas”; “(Atman-Buddhi-Manas)” for “(Atman BuddhiManas)”; “pray to thy Inner-Self” for “pray to thy InnerSelf”; “scriptures of the Jains” for “scriptures of the Jams”, as the scan has it: the same triad is spelled Atman-Buddhi-Manas in the same lesson of the Zodiacal Course (¶301), the Inner-Self in its exercise (¶316), and the same chapter of the Hermetic Astrology names Jainism (¶235). The scan breaks one word in Tarot and Kabbalah (¶2753), printed whole, and two run-in lines are not printed: the heading EXERCISE at the end of the Zodiacal Course ¶324, and the closing “Fraternally” of ¶326. Otherwise the passages are printed as the extraction gives them, its remaining slips included (“He does He reincarnate”, “Lamblichus”, where the same lesson spells it Jamblichus, and “chapter 81” in the citation of the Bhagavad Gita).

No sentence of his is cut in half. Each range was extended against the corpus until his sentence closed, and 11 ranges run over more than one paragraph. The one heading inside a printed range, INVOCATION in the Zodiacal Course (¶318), is not printed.

Nothing else was left out. Where he says the same thing in two books in different words, both are printed: the metal, stone and colour of the sign, conception under the Moon in Cancer, the natives in three books, and the meditation on the seal of Solomon in two.

48 passages also stand in a finished work, and every one is marked where it stands, most often in Return and Reincarnation (11), Zodiacal Course (8), and The Retrospective Exercise and The Science of Meditation (7 each). The repetition is wanted: this is the vocabulary of the whole teaching, and a reader who meets the same line in a second book holds it better. What is not allowed is an overlap a reader cannot see.

No passage carries an editor’s note. Every passage from his early books was read for a line that credits the Kundalini to anything other than the work of the couple, and none does: no passage of the sign names the Kundalini. Its exercises are given for preparing the body, for the thymus gland and for knowing oneself, and where the road of fire is named it is the road the Bhagavad Gita gives the perfect after death.

Where he speaks of the sickness, only his words are printed. Nothing here is medical advice.

Checked twice over. Every section and part title is a line of his, proved against the passages under it. And every passage was checked word for word against a fresh extraction of its book.

The ninth work of The Zodiac, beside Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini and the Zodiacal Course booklet on the shelf, which prints his practice for every sign. This one gathers everything he says on one sign. It wears the pale night-blue of the zodiac and the themed works’ two hairlines, in the silver of his table for the sign.
