Every word here is his. Nothing has been paraphrased or improved. Each passage was cut out of the book it belongs to by reference, and each carries that book and the paragraph it came from, so anything on this page can be found again in the source. Most of it comes from the three books where he gave a whole lesson on the sign, the Zodiacal Course, the Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology and the Manual of Practical Magic; the rest are the paragraphs where he names Leo, or its lions, in other books. Many of these passages also stand in other works of the shelf, chiefly The Science of Meditation, Zodiacal Course, The Words He Uses and Imagination, Inspiration, Intuition. They are gathered here on purpose: the same teaching comes back in several of them because hearing it again is how it settles.

The first part is the heart of the zodiac: the dates of the sign and its table, its metal, stone, colour and element, its plants, the throne of the Sun, the Thrones and the Kumaras, intuition, the genii of the sign, and the heart in the living zodiac: “Leo governs the human heart.” “…the color of Leo is golden.”

The second is the Lions of Fire: the Order of Leo, the highest of the twelve Orders, the flames of the constellation within the human being, the sanctum of the constellation as he saw it, the evolution that begins and ends in Leo, and the number five: “Leo is the most exalted among the twelve Orders.” “The astral light of the constellation of Leo has a beautiful golden colour and one feels inspired looking at it.”

The third is the heart-temple: the heart as the sun of the organism, the seal of Solomon in the heart, the Inner Master who speaks in hunches, the celestial man and the animal man, Nirvana, the narrow door and the path of the tranquil heart: “The heart is the sacred temple of the Inner Master.” “The Initiate reaches Nirvana in one single life if he so wants it.”

The fourth is the Master: the seven sanctuaries of the astral plane, the warning against false prophets, his two rules, travel in the astral body, and those who mock the initiations: “When the disciple is ready, the Master appears” “I teach the student how to travel in the astral body, so that he will not allow himself to be deceived.”

The fifth is the path of the Heart: Master Nanak, a place in the heart-temple for every religion, the Sikh scriptures, the Guru-Deva and the Samyasin of the mind: “Nanak, the founding Master of the Sikh Religion in the sacred land of the Vedas, taught the path of the Heart.” “In the Heart-Temple we will find Han, the Being.”

The sixth is prayer combined with meditation: concentration, his summary of the lesson, scientific prayer and the Our Father, the illuminating Void, the pulse and the second heart, and intuition against the rascals of the intellect: “To pray is to converse with God” “INTUITION is direct perception of the truth”

The seventh is the natives, those born under the sign: “The natives of Leo are like the lion; kind and courageous.” “The natives of Leo are energetic and generous at the same time”

The eighth part is the practice of the period of Leo: inner meditation in its three phases, the words to say in it, the vowel of the sign, the Our Father prayed slowly, the relaxation and the pulse, and the perfume: “During the sign of Leo, we should act on the heart, through meditation.” “A single Our Father well prayed and wisely combined with Meditation, is an entire Work of High Magic.”

This is the tenth of twelve, one for each sign, each released as the sun enters it.

IIthe flames of the constellation of Leo exist within the human being

The Orders of the zodiac exist in the cosmos and in man, and the flames of the constellation of Leo burn within the human being. In a lecture he adds that the twelve Orders, the Order of Leo among them, carry no Ego.

Above and below, in the Macrocosm and in the Microcosmic human being, the creative powers are esoterically divided into seven, three, and four, within the twelve great cosmic orders, which bring to mind the zodiacal signs in the Macrocosm and in the Microcosm. The Lions of Fire, or ‘Lions of Life’ of the zodiacal sign of Leo, are constituted as the most elevated group in the Macrocosm and within the Microcosmic human being.

Pistis Sophia Unveiled, 1983 also in The Law of Correspondence

Moreover, it is important to remember that just as the zodiacal belt exists in the firmament, likewise, the flames of the constellation of Leo exist within the human being. The Hierarchy of the Fire is the most important Hierarchy in the Macrocosm and in the Microcosmic human being.

Pistis Sophia Unveiled, 1983 also in The Law of Correspondence

For if you could for a moment unbottle the Essence, you could then see that those twelve Orders that exist in this Universe –among which is the Order of Leo, of the Lion– have no Ego nor carry mental forms or effigies within them. They are creatures who live from moment to moment and never have the bad taste to create mental effigies. Reflect on all that.

IVMan began his evolution in Leo and will end his evolution in Leo

In three books he says that evolution begins in Leo and ends in Leo. The Greater Mysteries says it at the close of a passage on the initiation of Jesus, the Aquarian Message beside the zodiacal womb of the new Jerusalem.

Man began his evolution in Leo and will end his evolution in Leo. The entire evolution of man is written in the cosmographic map of his own organism.

Zodiacal Course, 1951

By means of the fire, we extract from the astral body a psychic extract which is the conscious soul (the conscious or sephirothic values of the astral body), which resembles a beautiful (male) child. This beautiful child remains during three days within his holy sepulcher. On the third day, he resurrects and fuses with the Inner-Self or Inner Being. After this esoteric resurrection, Jesus descended into the atomic infernos of nature. Within the abyss, we have to recapitulate all the evils of our past reincarnations. Master Jesus lasted 40 days in the abyss. Before the ascension, the door of the abyss located in the lower abdomen, opens up. Before the ascension, we are examined by fire, and we are taught the internal zodiac. Our evolution began in the constellation of Leo and ends with Leo.

The Greater Mysteries, 1956 also in The Intimate Christ

A zodiacal belt with twelve constellations also exists. The new Jerusalem, that is to say, the earth of the future sixth Root Race, is being gestated within the zodiacal womb. Every evolution starts in Leo and ends in Leo. The street of the city is of pure gold (sacred fire) as if it were flexible, malleable glass, that is to say, christonic semen. The Pentecostal fire rises from this liquid glass.

VThere are people who think they can reach Nirvana without going through any initiation

Some think they can reach Nirvana without initiation, and some mock the path they have trodden. The nine initiations of the Lesser Mysteries come first.

There are people who think they can reach Nirvana without going through any initiation. Such “living dead” people follow the spiral path of life and only through millions of lives and deaths, will they truly reach Nirvana. But there are other “living dead” people who want to rapidly fuse themselves with their Inner-Self and nevertheless, try to mock our sacred initiations. This kind of living dead people are the most dangerous because they have tread the path and are “mocking” the path. “These are the offenders” of Victor Hugo. These are the defilers of the temple.

To want to rapidly become fused with the Inner-Self without having passed through the nine initiations of Lesser Mysteries, is akin to wanting to receive a doctor’s degree in medicine, without having studied all the required years at university, or like wanting to be a general, without having passed through all the military ranks.

PART FIVE

the path of the Heart
In the Heart-Temple, there is a place for all religions, sects, orders, etc.

Annie Besant narrates a case of Master Nanak, which is well worth the while to transcribe. “It was a Friday that day, and when the hour of prayer arrived, master and servant headed towards the mosque. When the Kari (Muslim Priest) started the prayers, the Nabob and his retinue prostrated themselves, as is prescribed by the Mohammedan Rite; Nanak remained standing, still and silent. Once the prayer had ended, the Nabob confronted the young man and, indignant, he asked him: “Why have you not fulfilled the ceremonies of the Law? You are a liar and a fake. You should not have come here to stand like a post.” “Nanak replied: “You prostrated yourself with your face on the floor while your thoughts wandered through the clouds, for you were thinking of bringing horses from Candar and not in the recitation of the prayer. As to the Priest, he was automatically practicing the ceremonies of prostration, while at the same time his thoughts were in saving the she-donkey that gave birth days ago. How was I going to pray with people who kneel out of routine and repeat words like a parrot?” “The Nabob confessed that in effect, he had been thinking during the entire ceremony on the planned purchase of horses. As far as the Kari was concerned, he openly manifested his disgust and pressed the young man with many questions.”

VControl over the physical body begins with control over the pulse

Control of the body begins with control of the pulse, the second heart, reached through full relaxation. In Samadhi the pulsations slow and the Essence fuses with the Being.

Control over the physical body begins with control over the pulse. The pulse of the tranquil heart is felt all at once, entirely, in its totality, within the organism, but Gnostics can feel it at will in any part of the body, whether it be on the tip of the nose, an ear, an arm, a foot, etc.

Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, 1967

It has been demonstrated in practice that by acquiring the possibility of regulating, hastening or slowing down the pulse, the heartbeat can be hastened or slowed down. Control over the palpitations of the heart can never come from the heart muscles, but rather it depends totally on the control of the pulse. This is, beyond all doubt, the Second Heartbeat or Great Heart.

How this was made. All fifty-two books were extracted (73,105 paragraphs, 2,157,671 words) and swept for the sign. The sweep took the whole Leo chapters of three books: the Zodiacal Course (1951, ¶328–407, the fifth lesson, with its summary, ¶1005–1013; 89 paragraphs), the Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology (1967, ¶270–343, 74) and the Manual of Practical Magic (1954, ¶458–475, 18). It then took every other paragraph in any book that names Leo (28), and every paragraph that names a lion (201), for the readers to keep only where he ties them to the sign; the lines of his correspondence tables not already in, from Occult Medicine and Practical Magic (3); and, where his sentence ran across the paragraph break, the paragraph beside it (12). The name Leo also belongs to popes and to others: those paragraphs were swept with the rest, and the readers kept only the sign. Forty-four paragraphs on the lion-faced power of the Archons of the Pistis Sophia (43 in Pistis Sophia Unveiled, one quoted in Buddha’s Necklace) were set aside before the readers: they speak of that power, not of the sign. The Sun, gold and the heart were not searched for on their own: they run all through his books, and the lessons on the sign carry what he says of them under Leo. That returned 425 candidate paragraphs in 36 books, 144 of them already printed in another work of the shelf. Every candidate was read twice, by independent readers working from a written brief. The two passes agreed on whether to print 100.0% of the time and on the class 97.4%. A third reader, who saw neither verdict, settled the eleven differences of class: six lines of the warnings and the maxims in the Zodiacal Course (¶375–386), three lines of the story of Nanak in the Hermetic Astrology (¶273, ¶276, ¶278), the emptying of the mind (¶320, printed as a practice) and the Frankincense line of the list of perfumes in Occult Medicine (¶1617). 200 were judged printable; none was left out, and 38 were joined into the passage before them where his sentence, his list or his story ran across several paragraphs, so 162 passages are printed here. The rest are recorded with the reason each was set aside.

The practices were not gathered in a separate pass. The twenty-seven passages marked as practices are the ones the readers marked as giving the reader something to do. Twelve are gathered as the last part, with the five passages that stand among them in his order. The other fifteen stay beside the teaching they belong to: the coachman of the mind and the path of the tranquil heart in the third part, the warnings against false prophets and his two rules in the fourth, the death of the Ego and the meditation on Han in the fifth, and in the sixth the still mind, the prayer that awaits the reply and the Manual’s numbered lines on intuition.

What was set aside. Of the 225 paragraphs the readers set aside, 196 spoke of a lion without tying it to Leo: in a story, a simile, a myth or a card of the Tarot; of the 201 paragraphs of the lion the sweep found, four are printed, where he ties the lion to the sign or its constellation. Fifteen were headings, salutations, sign-offs, list numbers and the labels of his tables; three used the name for a person or in a Latin line; eleven belonged to the sign before or the sign after, named Leo only in a list of the signs, or spoke of something else beside it.

Nothing left out, six mends, recorded. This page prints “Maha Samadhi” for “Maha Sainadhi”; “the I that we” for “the Ithat we”; “golden. In practice” for “golden. practice”; “the Kari” for “the Karl”; “five-pointed” for “fivepointed”; “Ayana (meditation)” for “Ayana meditation)”, as the scan has it: the same sentence of the Hermetic Astrology names Samadhi, the same chapter names the Kari, and his own formula “In practice we have been able to verify” opens the natives of other signs in that book; the five-pointed star is printed so in Tarot and Kabbalah (¶2770); and the same sentence of the Zodiacal Course glosses its other two steps in brackets (¶1007). No line was trimmed and no heading lifted. Otherwise the passages are printed as the extraction gives them, its remaining slips included (“Anatal Shabda” in the Sikh hymn, “Christ - mind”, “Boddhidharma” and “Ayana”).

No sentence of his is cut in half. Each range was extended against the corpus until his sentence closed, and 14 ranges run over more than one paragraph.

Nothing else was left out. Where he says the same thing in two books in different words, both are printed: the throne of the Sun and the heart of the zodiac, gold and the diamond, the seal of Solomon in the heart, the three steps to Samadhi, the evolution that begins and ends in Leo in three books, the Order of Leo the highest in two, and the natives in three.

61 passages also stand in a finished work, and every one is marked where it stands, most often in The Science of Meditation (22), Zodiacal Course and The Words He Uses (7 each), and Imagination, Inspiration, Intuition (6). The repetition is wanted: this is the vocabulary of the whole teaching, and a reader who meets the same line in a second book holds it better. What is not allowed is an overlap a reader cannot see.

No passage carries an editor’s note. Every passage was read for a line that credits the Kundalini to anything other than the work of the couple, and none does. Three passages of the lesson on the heart name the Kundalini; they speak of the heart and of how far the Kundalini reaches, not of its cause. The Pentecostal fire of the Aquarian Message is the fire of the christonic semen. The vowel of the sign is given for the chakra of the heart.

Checked twice over. Every section and part title is a line of his, proved against the passages under it. And every passage was checked word for word against a fresh extraction of its book.

The tenth work of The Zodiac, beside Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer and the Zodiacal Course booklet on the shelf, which prints his practice for every sign. This one gathers everything he says on one sign. It wears the pale night-blue of the zodiac and the themed works’ two hairlines, in the golden of his table for the sign.
